Chapter 4 - In The Library After Hours - Romina

The school year started, and with it, the drama that would soon unfold at our dear high school. Girls fought, boys fought harder. The jocks beat up the nerds, just as usual... but one thing none of us could have predicted?

One of us was going to die by the end of the first quarter.

None of us could have assumed our eleventh grade school year would go down the way it did, but here we were. Or... here I was, in the library, that's how my eleventh grade school year began. I didn't know exactly what I was doing there, other than keeping an eye out for Jessica and Ruby. I was friends with Jessica, and well... Ruby... was something special to me. Maybe much like a sister.

I pondered the many ways to go about this day while peering out the nearby window, the blue sky speckled with white clouds brought inspiration for my art, but nothing too fancy, nor good enough for this year's art show. The deadline was far away, sure, but I needed more time.

Closing my eyes, I imagined soaring through the clouds, twisting and turning like a bird. I couldn't quite get the image of being so free while stuck in this school though.

How... free-

Something clicked against my head and Ruby laughed maliciously. I held my head in slight to almost non-existent pain and saw she was holding a pen, which she had just clicked against the top of my head.

"Hey! Rude!" I yelled to which the librarian, almost cliche-ishly shushed me. I apologized and turned back toward Ruby, who was grinning still.

"Ru... that wasn't kind," I said, pretending to pout.

"Oh come on, you did the same thing to me yesterday. It's only fair~!"

Oh, how Ruby was... unfortunately right.

She set down her bag, which was neatly decorated with pins of different animals, specifically cats, and a pride flag which she put on for Clive, her friend.

Those two are so close-knit that it's adorable. They do everything together and are very supportive of each other as well. Every guy Ruby went out with, Clive had to make sure he was a good enough fit for her. Clive, however... never dated anyone after Victor. I believed it was time he gets out there again, but Ruby disagrees.

"First week of school and you already have a bunch of drafts, not a single one completely finished though. Of course not, knowing you you probably got bored." Ruby said, flipping through my artbook, to which, in a quick panic I pulled from her.

People viewing my art is... hard for me, it always has been.

"Woah! What? Do you draw NSFW things or something?!" Ruby asked, quickly turning bright red.

"No! It's just uncomfortable... remember?" I asked, hoping she hadn't forgotten completely.

"Right. I'm sorry Mina." She said, actually sounding sincere before lowering her head.

I felt so bad. I overreacted again. I ruined something, didn't I? Ugh, I'm such a fool. I slid the artbook back across the table, and turned my head to the side, I was bright red.

Ruby instantly perked up her entire body and continued looking through it. She pointed to various drawings, complimenting them and telling me how good I was.

Maybe... this wasn't so bad after all.
