Chapter 8 - My Second School

Mr. Beauregard offered his right hand for me to shake and I took it and we shook hands. "Thank you Rasaki, you may leave now." he said. "Good luck mate." Rasaki whispered to my ear before leaving. After the door shut close, I just wandered my eyes to the office. The walls were completely white marbles, the curtains were black and widows were crystal clear. His table and chair were made of glass and there are a few paintings in the walls. The look was completed by the gray marble floor and a soft, white floor mat under his office table. "Please have a seat Mr. Duncan." Mr. Beauregard offered. I sat down to the glass chair right in front of him. He also sat down and looked straight into my eyes. "Mr. Duncan, do you have any idea why you're here?" he asked. "No sir I don't". I replied trying my best to be respectful towards him since he owns this school. "Hmmm.....perhaps they can explain a few info about why you're here." he replied. "I'm sorry sir who?" I asked. "Come in boys!" he ordered. Just then, his huge door opened. Two familiar men entered. "Hey there Mattheo!" Michael greeted as he entered. "You could've at least greeted Mr. Beauregard first." Dice said with a bit of a sarcastic tone. Michael shot him a death glare. Dice mocked him by copying his expression. "Okay that's enough you two. Now you know why you're here. I personally sent the two of you to bring Mattheo to me. Try to explain to him just a few minor details." he said to Michael and Dice before turning to me. "Feel free to ask questions." After that he clapped his hands and disappeared in thin air. I sat there stunned. Rasaki said earlier that he would explain to me. Then he leaves job to Michael and Dice. It's too much, I couldn't even process what just happened. Michael then groaned. "Even though he's the owner of this school, I feel like he's a bit of a dick sometimes." he said. Dice just chuckled then turned to me, "I have something to show you." He motioned for me to stand up and I did. I followed the two of them to a huge glass mirror. It has golden frames and it was hanged in a near wall. Dice went inside the mirror followed by Michael then me. We then found ourselves in a room filled with mirrors. And when I say filled with mirrors, I mean literally just mirrors. Even the floors are mirrors. All kinds though, there are a few with circle shape others with square, some are big, some are small. But something about the mirrors intrigued me. They didn't show our reflections, instead they showed faces of people, with their names of the border of the frame. A silver, circular mirror with no handle then went to Michael's hand. And I was surprised by what I saw. My name was written in the border of the mirror. "This is our job at this school." Michael said. "This room is called the Mirror of Students. In this room, our job is to find new students. Each mirror represents each student in this school. Once a new mirror appears, it means this room has found a new student. His or her mirror will show us his or her destination and we'll go to recruit them. As you can see, their names are written in the mirror, that's how we found you and knew you even if you hadn't introduced yourself to us. If a new mirror appears, we immediately go to Rasaki, since he's the librarian and the closest to Beauregard. He informs him about the new student and Beauregard will send the two of us to find them." Michael finishes. I just stood there. My mouth fell open but no words came out. Finally, I talked. "But you said yesterday that only students like us can see through the mist. What does that mean?" I asked. "That's a good question. You see, in this world a few teenagers, probably about 14-16 years old, are considered new heroes. Which means, every student the mirrors have found has hidden powers inside them. There are very few, but each year there are about 10-15 students found. That's the most maximum amount of students found each year. Even if you're parents are just normal people when you're born with the blood of a hero, then the mirror will want you here. The mist is one of the things that are made here in this school. Sometimes we forget the faces of the students the mirror shows us so we use the mist to find the person we're looking for." Dice said. I can't believe what I'm hearing right now. I'm a hero? I can't even stand up for myself against Bryce Birkwood how am I a hero? "This is ridiculous! I'm a loser there's no way that I'm a hero!" I said back. Michael just smiled. "That's how every hero starts. If you know your weaknesses it doesn't mean you're a loser. It means you have to try and overcome these weaknesses. If you think you're so strong and mighty and brag about it even though you're nothing but all talks, then that's what you'd call a loser. The mirror chose you. Then live up to the expectations of people who found a new hero."
