In the middle of the night, Ezra came rushing down the dark, murky path leading to an alleyway. She always knew the route like the back of her hand, but this time, she did not even know where she was going.
Her breathing was erratic and every step she take makes her heart beat even faster. The young woman wrapped her coat around herself to get rid of the shivers. The click-clacking of her heels echoed among the walls of the alley hoisting up the eerie atmosphere. She stopped nearby and under a ruined lamp post, took her phone out of her shoulder bag, and started dialing numbers. The beeping of her phone was the only noise to be heard.
"Please, help me." Her hand wavers, following invocations of fear and panic in the air. The cold gust of the wind is tarnishing her hair against the dark walls of the alley, pushing her tears in streaks across her terrified face.
"I don't want to die! I don't want to die!" she screamed in anguish.
"Blood pressure is over a hundred-twenty. Please take your administered ACE Lisinopril." A loud and automated voice of a man came snoozing inside her shoulder bag.
"Shut up!"
"Blood pressure is over a hundred-"
"Shut the fuck up!" Her tears came running down her face as she rubs them off with her rough leather coat.
In all of a sudden, a foot of men echoed among the walls of the alleyway. Ezra sulked right next to the trash bin at the back of the lamp post.
"This ain't happening." She muttered with her voice shaking in fear.
It's the drugs. It's all about the drugs that they use. They can't escape from it. It's the drugs that make them stronger that will make them leap four steps ahead of the future. And it's the drugs that placed the young woman into her own constraints.
She remembers twelve years ago where everything was still bright and gay. It was bright summer and the birds were singing cheerfully, and the ebbing tide was harmonious. She turns her head around and sees her mother and father happily dancing among the sands with the wind brushing through her mother's décolleté dress.
Everything went black in a blink of an eye. Lightning struck the heavens as the winds grew into a cyclone. The sky turned from black to crimson red. At the distance, she saw something coming out from the sky above. The very first kaiju, Barbarossa, sunk nearby Rashelle's port side. Standing more than a hundred feet, each of its four limbs terminated in webbed claws was large enough to annihilate an entire village in one fell sweep. Its head was like of a dog all covered with huge plates of unknown material and a few seconds after revealed thousands of eyes crawling from his forehead up to its lower jaw. Ezra's eyes did not reveal most parts of the creature's body because of the mist covering the whole surrounding but describe it as a biped with three huge tails emerging out of the water. It's kind of like a dinosaur.
A moment after that grand entrance, the mist turned visibly red and the water dripping from Ezra's face looks like blood dripping from her forehead. Her eyes grew wide as she sees all the people around her regurgitate purple substances including her parents.
Terrified, she stood there staring blankly at the enormous creature making its way through the line of fire as planes flew above it dropping bombs and battleships fired their salvo.
"Why..." is the only word uttered from her mouth as she sees all of the chaos breeding around her.
"There is no point of running, lass." A raspy voice of an old man called Ezra.
"Don't you even dare to come closer!" She screamed and pulled a beretta out of her shoulder bag.
Lights flicker and all of a sudden, a flood of light flashed before Ezra's eyes. At that point, she knew that she was already surrounded by the government's army. Four assault units stood at the top of a commercial building opposite where Ezra was standing, two sniper units were stationed fifty meters in front of her and three assault units were stationed on each corner of the alleyway. She's on a checkmate now.
In front of her stood a balding man in his fifties wearing xl-sized military fatigue painted in grey and dark digital disruptive patterns. He was holding a red beret with his right arm while his left arm was placed on his back and on his shoulder, an armband was worn with a huge insignia displaying a skull with a star imprinted on its left eye. She knew at the very moment that the man was a general brigadier of Russiyo's Liberation Front, one of the government's black military companies and hunting parties.
The organization aims to suppress the zero-one council's RadiaNt militant group without the legitimate approval of His majesty himself. They are funded by the Russo-Dorogne joint parliament who is against the zero-one council and the legislative amendments created by the late ruler, Charles Aurelius da Dorogne.
"Corporal Ezra Jelavica y Caelestis," the man raised his left hand revealing himself clutching a thirty-eight magnum revolver.
"Say my regards to your father." the man hoists his head depicting a wicked mentality, a shallow smile, and deep penetrating eyes. He points his gun at Ezra without hesitation while Ezra pointed her beretta back at him.
In all of a sudden, the building where the three sniper units were stationed was struck by rampaging ordnance and end up blowing the top of the commercial building and killing all twelve personnel. The second explosion followed, killing the sniper units that were stationed fifty meters away from her. The bad omen cowered and shook the remaining assault units and the general brigadier.
A mysterious figure came crashing down from the skies above shaking the entire place. His entrance was so quick that no one could predict what direction he came from. Upon the dissipation of the smoke, revealed a young man with his wavy scruffy hair covering half of his face and his right eye reveals to be glowing in blue. His eyes staring blankly at Ezra.
The general brigadier stood up without showing any hint of fear in his face.
"Who the hell are you?!" The young man diverted his blank look towards the general and it gave the old man shivers running down from his spine. He yelled again at the young man with the same question while pointing his gun towards him but again, the young man couldn't care less.
In a sudden flash, the young man disappeared into the thin air right in front of him and as he turned around, Ezra was nowhere to be found.
At that point, he knew that he underestimated the enemy. From his years of experience in battling the Kaiju and any other opposing military factions, he had never encountered such a sinister presence in which he only felt by looking at the mysterious young man in his glowing eyes.
"Retreat!" yelled the general and the remaining assault group marched one-by-one towards the exit of the alleyway. He let out a sigh thinking how lucky he was on not pulling the trigger because he knew that he'll be dead before the bullet could even reach the target.
He took a cigar and a lighter out of the left pocket of his trousers.
"Pretty lucky of you old man!" An orotund voice of a kid spoke before the general could flick the flint of the lighter. The old man turned around and saw a boy wearing a crimson red cloak.
"Augustus,"
"I see, so that's where you were hiding this whole time,"
"What the hell are you talking about?" asked the confused old man.
"You did a good job, Arthur. You lured the target out." the boy chuckled.
"I don't want to pry into your private businesses. My only concern here is the elimination of Jonas' daughter."
The boy sat down beside the general.
"It will come in time," the boy said.
The general took notice of this and he started observing the boy. He saw that the boy picked up a strand of hair from the ground.
"Virgil!" the boy laughed maniacally.
"Found you at last!"
