Luke was working at the café serving a couple, when Jack walked in wearing short sleeves in fall and waved to Luke. Luke finished up serving the couple and grumpily walked over to Jack.
"What are you doing here?! You know you owe me soo many sweets for what you pulled last night and then you came back after! I saw you this morning remember?! It's gonna take you a while to pay this one off mister. You might be giving me a sweet treat everyday for the rest of your life!", Luke said angrily in a way that was a little too cute to look remotely scary. He was too surprised and sleepy to be angry earlier, but now that he had seen the man again he was a little too upset to go without declaring the man's debt in the form of sweets.
"I didn't see you this morning" replied the laughing man as he handed over a piece of cherry pie that was definitely from last night. "It was in the fridge."
[I knew it! They hid the sweets from me last night! What do they think, I'm going to get fat or something?!]
Luke quickly snatched the pie and was soon later scolded by old man Larry that there were other customers. Luke seated "Jack" and got back to work taking orders and seating a family of five.
As he worked Michael, who currently looked like Jack, was watching Luke from across the café. Every once in a while Luke would look over at him because he felt a weird stare, but it would vanish before he turned his head and "Jack" would always be distracted with something else. Luke figured it was in his imagination and got back to work, waiting for his break when he could eat the pie that Jack brought him.
...
Meanwhile, Jack (the real one) was headed over to visit his grandmother on his maternal side. His grandmother lived over an hour away in a more forested part of the state and it took a while driving through back roads to get to her house, but the trip was worth it because when it came to matters involving Michael's side of the family she was the expert because she was also an eldest child.
Jack's mom's sister was the eldest child out his grandmother's children and because of that his aunt's eldest son, or his cousin Michael could shapeshift into different people and animals, and could sometimes make bizarre things happen. Every eldest child of the family seemed to have this odd power, so often they would only have one child to avoid problems among siblings. Because of this Michael used to be quite close to them until the whole incident with Ara happened and the two families grew apart. Ara was... well lets not get into that now.
As Jack got to the door of his grandmother's large somewhat gothic home in the middle of the woods, he knocked on the door and shouted out, "It's Jack!".
The doors burst open and his grandmother greeted him looking like she was only a woman in her thirties and she enthusiastically shouted, "Jack its you! You need to visit more often! What brings you out here to my humble abode?".
"Grandma, this is not humble, and I wanted to talk to you about Michael. I am in love with a girl and he is sniffing around her family looking for Ara. It's just like Ara again. Can you help me?" Jack said.
"Ohh dear, well I'll see what I can do honey. We don't want anything like that happening again. I can't have my family tearing apart again! Then when would I ever see you both?!" she stated as she walked into the kitchen and returned looking twenty or so years older, closer to her age.
