Chapter 20 - Mini Side Story 1-2

"Hellfire..."

"I see that you've been studying. Hellfire is the rarest and deadliest form of fire magic there is. There's only one family rumored to even have it. Mine, obviously. Do you really think that you'll be able to defeat me, mortals?" The Demon King just mocks them.

"Rune, I'll definitely be needing you in your full form, for this fight." Giradon tells Rune, but then sticks his own sword away.

"Right." Rune then starts to concentrate, soon glowing softly, and then transforming into a fairly long silvery sword, with glowing light blue runes carved all down the sides of his blade.

Giradon catches Rune as he transforms.

"What is this?" The Demon King asks, seeming slightly confused.

"What? Never seen a living weapon before? This here is Runestorm. One of the most powerful weapons ever created." Giradon just smirks a bit as he mocks the Demon King right back.

"No matter. Whatever weapon that you wield, living or not, you will not leave this place alive, ever again!" The Demon King then strikes his sword of black flames onto the ground, and a wave of hellfire then races towards Giradon.

Giradon jumps out of the way, and starts to concentrate some of his light energy into Runestorm, his blade soon turning from a silver color to white, and his runes from a light blue to a bright pale yellow, as Giradon's light magic courses through Runestorm's blade.

The now yellow runes soon slip off from the blade, kind of like how they did for Runestorm when he was in his human form, and the runes then start to swarm the Demon King, slashing at him as they pass near him, the light magic within the runes dealing extra damage as they touch and dig into the Demon King's flesh.

Though this mostly just succeeds in angering the Demon King, and he roars at Giradon, though this roar has power behind it, and it stuns Giradon, and temporarily pushes the runes flying around him away. He then charges towards Giradon as he's distracted, preparing to strike once close enough.

Giradon just barely manages to get his shield up in order to block the attack, but the sword made from hellfire actually melts partially into his shield. "That's not good..."

"Don't lose hope, Giradon, I know that we can do it." Runes voice rings through Giradons mind, being in sword form currently.

"Yes, but it certainly will not be easy."

"Nothing in life worth striving for ever is, my friend."

"You have a point." Giradon then imbues his shield with light magic, then repelling the hellfire sword from his shield, and he then swings Runestorm at the Demon King, managing to get a pretty deep slash in before he manages to dodge out of the way, and around the slash is burnt due to his weakness to Giradons light magic.

This just enrages the Demon King even more, and he then starts to furiously and rapidly slash at Giradon multiple times, not letting up.

Giradon uses a mixture of both his shield and Runestorm to try and block each of the attacks, Rune being able to withstand the hellfire better then his regular shield. He just watches the Demon King's seemingly random attacks for now, as he continues to block or dodge his attacks, eventually discovering a pattern in his strikes. After he notices this, he then waits for an opening, building up light energy further into Runestorm, then when he notices his chance, Giradon then releases a shockwave of light energy at the Demon King.

This does push the Demon King back some, and he then steps back some more, now starting to build up a spell.

Noticing this, Giradon then rushes him, slashing rapidly at him, and the Demon King just takes this for now, soon knocking him back as he finishes his spell. And as the spell takes effect, the ground soon starts to erupt in large columns of hellfire. Giradon has to keep dodging both the columns of hellfire, and now the Demon King again, the columns seeming to be following where he steps.

This seems to start tiring him out, but soon enough the columns finally stop as the spell eventually fades away. He then starts to build up some more of his light energy, and as the Demon King rushes towards him again, Giradon then unleashes a concentrated beam of light energy at the Demon King.

The Demon King stops in his tracks, and puts up a wall of hellfire in order to try and block at least some of the damage from the beam of light energy. The beam soon breaks through the wall of hellfire, and he then tries to block it some more with his sword, but it still manages to burn him some. "That's it. This ends now, human!" He then sends a large wave of hellfire towards Giradon, barely stopping to even cast the spell, and he then rushes towards him following behind the wave of hellfire.

Giradon does deflect some of the hellfire by enveloping his shield with his light energy, but he doesn't entirely expect the Demon King to have been right behind the wave of hellfire, and his shield end up being melted through as the Demon King attacks him again. He then hurriedly drops the remnants of his melting shield, and then attempts to strike at the Demon King again.

He takes the hit, then brutally knocks Giradon away, and as he's down, he strikes downwards onto him.

Though Giradon uses Runestorm to block the strike, holding his blade up to the hellfire sword, though soon starts to struggle some as the Demon King puts more force into his strike.

Runestorm actually starts to show a few cracks on him now, as his blade soon starts to flicker between his white and yellow coloring, to his normal silver and blue coloring, his blade not able to withstand such dark and intense attacks without the special light magic from Giradon, as Giradon is slowly depleting his magic source quicker and quicker as the fight goes on.

"Sh*t! That's not good... Rune, are you alright...?" Giradon asks, worriedly.

"I'll be...fine... Just focus..." Rune tries to focus on containing as much of his remaining light energy as possible.

The Demon King just smirks now, as he puts even more energy into his hellfire sword, the fire then flaring up wildly now, which just makes Runestorms blade worse, now.

"I... might be able to get us out of here, Rune, but... It'd be dangerous for you, in your current state..."

"Just do whatever you must... I'm only supposed to be a tool for your use, anyways..."

"Don't say that, Rune. You've been one of my best friends, since I can even remember..."

"Just do what you must!" Rune tries to get him to comply, as his blade is now riddled in large cracks, and about to break, soon.

"...Right..." Giradon then puts an overwhelming amount of light energy into Runestorm, and blasts it out towards the Demon King as he slashes at him, also ending up blinding everyone in the room with all the light energy being emitted.

This does greatly knock the Demon King back, and he tries to recollect himself from the strike.

Giradon then looks down at Runestorm, though all he holds now is the hilt, plus a small amount of blade that's still attached to the hilt, but there's now multiple shards of what used to be Runestorms blade littering the floor around Giradon. "Rune!"

"..."

"Rune! Talk to me!"

Though Rune just seems to be out cold.

Though the Demon King himself is also now weakened, he just recreates his sword of hellfire, walking back towards Giradon again.

"F*ck..." Giradon sets the hilt of Runestorm amongst the rest of his shards, then quickly gets his regular sword out, along with what seems to be a small scroll.

"That sword will make a fine demon blade, once I get my smiths to reforge him." The Demon King mentions.

"Never! You'll never get Rune!"

"Really? Because it seems like I've won. You weren't nearly as prepared as you thought you were." The Demon King then attempts to impale Giradon.

And Giradon doesn't even try to avoid it, he actually goes towards him, attempting to stick him through with his own sword, though his regular sword just shatters as well, and the hellfire sword impales him through his chest.

The Demon King just smirks, knowing that he's won. "I told you that you could never even hope to win, against me, mortal."

Though he's soon interrupted by a soft glow. He then looks over to where the shards of Runestorm are, and notices the scroll set on top of the shards, glowing more brightly now, then everything around the scroll, including all the shards and hilt of Runestorm disappear as the scroll flashes, and nothing is left there, now.

"No! You b*stard! What have you done with my new sword?" The Demon King rages at Giradon.

"I told you... that you'd never lay even a single... filthy finger of yours... on Rune..." Giradon just grins slightly, even now, with blood dripping from his mouth. "He's back in the mortal realm, now... You'll never be able to... get your hands on him, now..."

The Demon King just roars at Giradon as he pulls him off of his sword, letting him fall back to the floor, then just impales him again a few more times, making sure that he's really dead. Soon stopping, and making his hellfire sword disappear now.

The Demon King then just looks around the now mostly destroyed throne room, and just stalks off, growling a bit, in anger.

Rune eventually wakes up, still in his 'sword' form, finding himself in some sort of field.

"...What... What happened...?"

Though he seems confused, he soon manages to make it into his human form, though only the hilt along with the small amount of blade still attached to the hilt is what transforms into his human form. He just sits on the ground for now, and he looks around, soon spotting what seems to be a shard of a sword on the ground near him, and he picks it up, inspecting it closer.

"...What is this? It looks... familiar..."

He tries to remember, but can't seem to.

"Why can't I remember...? Wait..." He soon realizes something, and then tries to remember more, but is soon gripping his head in pain, unable to recall anything other then a few fairly vague recollections, and what his name might be.

"Why can't I remember anything...? What happened to me, last...?"

Still holding the single shard of himself, he looks around himself, but doesn't see any others anywhere nearby.

"I feel like there should be... more of these, maybe...? But then... where would they be...?"

Rune then pockets the single shard of his blade, and heads off, in search of more shards, and in search of his memories.
