"What???" Riva Riva exclaimed in utter confusion.
"Uh, I was just asking if something was wrong?" Rao repeated his question from before.
Of course, he wasn't aware of the true cause of Riva's confusion.
[μηαβℓε το ςοмρяεнεηδ μsεя]
"Talk in a way I can understand, goddammit!" Riva who had already been irritated started cursing. She had temporarily forgotten about Rao's presence.
It was Rao's turn to become confused."You understood me just fine a moment ago." He frowned and approached Riva.
[αδjμsτιηg ℓαηgμαgε το μsεя]
She finally noticed him which returned her to her senses and the fact that she wasn't alone and had been screaming at an invisible person.
Perfect. Now I've done it.
"Uh, sorry... I was talking with my... sword." She used the best excuse she could think of on the spot.
"Your sword is it?" Rao raised an eyebrow. "Does it have a name too?"
[Changing language successful]
"It's called Slashy 1." Riva replied without thinking. She was far too distracted by the system message.
"Your naming sense is... unique." Rao complimented and eyed her worriedly.
Riva forced herself to focus and get her act back together,
[System detected several magic spells being cast on user]
She acted as though she hadn't noticed and asked "Is something wrong?"
"I think we should take a rest." he nodded. Maybe some food will help." Wait here for me, I'll be right back."
He handed her a piece of parchment filled with squiggly runes. "Rip this if you're in danger."
"No need, I'm fine." Riva protested.
"Of course you are." He agreed obviously just to appease her.
He ran off saying "Hang in there! I'll be right back."
Dammit. I have no idea what he cast but it looks like he drew a weird conclusion.
Riva chased after him. She was stopped at the exit where she collided with an invisible wall. Thankfully it was elastic. Otherwise, it would have likely made for some great slapstick comedy.
Meanwhile, Rao had disappeared around the corner.
"Fuck! What the hell is he thinking?!"
Let's focus. If I was adventuring and my party member was having hallucinations and talking weird I would likely suspect they were under a spell. Thus he probably cast some manner of detection magic.
Riva poked the barrier with Slahy 1. It gave way a little because of its elasticity but ultimately she couldn't get through. She wasn't getting out of here.
"System, can you tell me more about the spells that I was targeted with? Are any in effect right now?"
[User was targeted by two higher tier spells, one of the type identification and one of the type mind. The mind spell remains active.]
"Damn! I knew it! Can you give me any more details on the mind type spell?"
[System can not. Instead, system once again recommends purchasing the 'Identification' skill by paying 250 life energy]
"How much energy do I have at the moment?"
[582 points]
"Can I identify the skill that's currently affecting me with the 'Identification' skill?" Riva didn't forget to be wary of the system's quirks.
[Affirmative, user will be able to after upgrading the skill to 'Advanced Identification']
Riva rolled her eyes in exasperation. "And how do I upgrade it?"
[By purchasing the upgrade to 'Intermediate Identification' for 100 points and the upgrade to 'Advanced Identification' for 200 points] The system informed her.
"That would leave me with 32 points. Enough to survive a fight. Let's do it. I'm buying 'Identification' and upgrading it to 'Advanced'!"
Riva opted to spend almost her entire pool of remaining points. In the end, her survival was more important than the renewable resource of life energy. Immediately, she felt an abnormal amount of energy leave her body.
[User spent 550 points and acquired the skill 'Advanced Identification!' Does user want to see its detailed information]
"First cast it on the mind type spell currently affecting me!" Riva was in a hurry.
[Does user really want to activate 'Advanced Identification'?]
"Yes!" Riva snapped impatiently.
[Advanced Placate]
[This is a spell of the mind and the upgraded version of 'Placate'. It is used to calm the mind of the target and alleviate negative mental status effects such as confusion, fear, or rage.
The spell cast on the user has a remaining duration of 3 hours]
Hahhh~
Riva exhaled and dropped onto the floor. She felt drained after giving up so much energy.
I was expecting a lot but not this. It seems that he was genuinely worried about me?
She ruffled her hair in frustration.
Well, he could also have cast the spell to keep me from escaping. It's pretty unlikely though. There would have been better ways. Plus the barrier is super strong so there's no need.
"System, use 'Advanced Identification' on the barrier!"
[Does user really want to activate 'Advanced Identification'?]
"Yes!"
[Icrucian Barrier]
[This is a spell of the type mana manipulation. It is flexible and, physical, mental, and mana obstructing. The caster can decide about what can pass through it during the casting.
It is an active spell that is sustained and repaired by its caster by utilizing their mana.
It is currently undamaged]
"System, I want to set a new activation command for 'Advanced Identification'. I want to activate it on the target I'm looking at when I say 'I can't identify', okay? Oh, and if I say 'Tell me about... ' then use 'Advanced Identification' on the target I mention following the phrase. But only as long as it's a valid target.
[Successfully overwrote 'Advanced Identification' activation command]
"Okay, time to test it."
Riva looked at the roots hanging down from the ceiling ad said "Who says I can't identify as a tamer?"
[Eoshra Tree]
[This is a type of tree commonly seen in mild climate areas.]
Guess that when I'm looking at a part of something it will tell me about the entire thing. Nonetheless, it's convenient to work without my mention of the targeted object. Time to test the second trigger.
"Tell me about the roots."
[Roots]
[A part of a tree.]
Riva facepalmed.
"Tell me more about these roots."
…
"Tell me about these roots!"
[Cave Root]
[A root from the Eoshra tree.]
It's a bit missing in the trivia department and the information about its use but it's better than nothing. Riva evaluated her newest skill.
She had tested its activation a few more times when Rao returned. He effortlessly passed through the entrance where the barrier had been placed.
Riva frowned when she saw what was following behind him. It was a flying boar!
To be exact it was a boar that was helplessly struggling in the air. Rao had likely cast a levitation spell on it.
"I can't identify your purpose in levitating a live boar around with you." Riva looked directly at Rao.
[Notice: The target is currently in disguise as a human. Successfully revealed the target's true information with 'Advanced Identification']
