Chereads / The Things That Lurk Here / Chapter 13 - Chapter XII

Chapter 13 - Chapter XII

"Yeah. Her parents passed unexpectedly. I propose due to supernatural causes." I heard aunt Theresa speak.

"It's very kind of you to take her in like that. You make a very good parent. I'm sure your husband is very happy to have you?" Joe replied.

"Oh no, honey. Haha. I don't have a husband"

"O-oh. Sorry.."

"It's quite fine!"

Something jumped on top of me as I felt pressure cause me to collapse to the floor. I looked up.

"Aiden?!" I asked.

Theresa and Joe turned their attention towards us. "Children."

Aiden stood up and looked to Joe with sad eyes.

Theresa smiled. "MR.JOE THEY NEED TAPE!" Aiden yelled.

"Aiden how did you know that?" Dan asked angrily.

Aiden pouted, "Mom sent me to spy on you to see what you were doing."

I blushed, knowing what she had intended.

Dan seemed oblivious, however, and spoke up. "Dan no!" I screamed internally.

"Why did she want to know what we were doing?"

"She said to make sure your not-"

NO!-

"-out kissing Daisy"

I was ready to collapse in embarrassment before Dan drew back with a disgusted look on his face.

"Children we do not speak of that here." Joe interrupted, putting his finger to Aiden's lips.

Aiden curled back in shame. "-But mom told me to watch them!" He exclaimed.

"Enough." Theresa added.

Joe reached for a roll of tape over on his desk and handed it back over to us. Me and Theresa exchanged embarrassed looks as we closed the door and walked back out into the hallway.

"AIDEEEENNN!" Dan screamed as the door finally closed.

Aiden's ears withdrew as he whimpered and scurried away.

I felt a sense of overwhelming guilt watching Dan yell at him like that. "Dan! He was just doing what he was told!"

Dan recoiled and turned away. I gritted my teeth at him and ran to catch up with Aiden.

"Aiden!" I yelled through the crowds up people lined outside the halls, "Excuse me, pardon."

A glimpse of the back of Aiden's head entering a classroom caught my eye. I ran into the classroom after him and shut the door behind me.

The lights were off and only the hallway lights shone through the window on the door. Papers were scattered everywhere. Desks were flipped over on their sides.

"Aiden?" I asked. My voice echoed all over the dark classroom.

I noticed I still had the roll of tape and put it away. "Aiden. Don't be scared!"

It wasn't long before I began to realize that he wasnt in there. "My mind must be playing tricks on me" I thought.

I took another quick glance over the classroom before I turned to the door to leave. Suddenly, sound of papers rustling began behind me.

"Aiden? Is that you?" I asked. Nobody answered.

I walked back into the darkness of the classroom to track down where the sound was coming from. Something was throwing papers everywhere back in the darkness where I couldn't see.

Cold chills ran over my body as I felt the presence growing closer and closer. I stepped back, but with each step I took, it took three rather large steps until it had finally stepped into the light and taken shape.

It seemed to be a werewolf. A big hairy beast that stood atleast 7 foot tall, covered in bushy brown hair.

Gasping, I ran to the door, frantically pulling at the handle before realizing it was locked. My heart dropped. The wolf approached closer and closer. It would be able to rip me apart in seconds, I had to come up with a plan.

"Aiden? Is that you?" I asked it but it just kept snarling at me, "Aiden. Please."

The wolf was right beside me when I swan dive'd behind a flipped over desk. My timing was impeccable, luckily. As I dove, I watched the creature slash where I was just standing, ripping holes in the concrete wall.

I gasped but covered my mouth with my hands, trying to be as quiet as possible. My knees kept scratching the solid floor as I crept behind the next desk to hide.

I laid my back against the desk and hoped for the best. Sweat poured down my face as I poorly controlled my breathing in the absolute silence. He must've been listening for my breathing.

After a minute of silence I carefully looked from behind the desk. The wolf was nowhere to be seen.

Aiden lay shirtless on the floor, instead.

"Aiden!"

I ran over to him and lifted his unconscious body off the floor. "Aiden?"

His ears perked up after hearing my voice the second time and he slowly opened his eyes.

I looked down at him and he looked down at me. Both of our faces went flush as we realized the situation and I dropped him.

He hit the floor with a thud, holding his back in pain.

"OW!"

"SORRY!" I replied. I lent out my hand to him and he took it.

"Thanks."

"Put a shirt on."

"I lost it somewhere"

I sighed. "Cover your nipples."

Aiden blushed and lowered his eyebrows. He got up and just pulled at the door knob. It didn't open.

"I tried earlier. It's locked." I said.

He tried again, and failed.

"I told you it's locked."

To our surprise, it began to open from the other side. Dan walked in looking around, curiously.
