Chapter 50 - Judgment

Dawn arrived with an unevenful night prior. The exhaustion of both of us cause the lack of actions and thus we only had a small talk and fell to each other's arm.

I wake up and immediately take my uniform to put on and walk outside the tent where in most of my soldiers starts preparing for their breakfast. I, for once, consider myself an morning person, but damn these hardworking people really deserve a praise from me!

I didn't really show my true emotion, and instead head towards the tent from before. As I arrive, my gaze cast towards Klanz who seem to have just waken up like me. I can still the sleepiness visible in his eyes looking directly towards me.

"Good morning, your majesty. I will soon prepare the other detainee."

"Do it."

As I said so, I head towards the seat far from my throne in which multiple chefs appear and ask me what food they need to give.

I didn't bat an eye to them and just told them the usual, and so, they all immediately begin to do their usual job. As for me, I wait there while thinking or rather predicting the choices of the ones left from yesterday.

As I do so, the door of the tent opens and reveal a sleepy eyed Beatrice who seem to have a quite few worried expression visible on hers. The moment we made an eye contact, the worried she have immediately fade away and form a happy smile as she walk towards an empty seat right beside me.

Though this is not the dining room as it is in my tent, however, now that she's here, she probably won't falter even if I scold her. And so, the breakfast we got, arrive not too long. An egg sandwich which I told them to make and a milk I asked to.

Beatrice's breakfast was delay as the chefs didn't see her coming, and so, it took as quite a little long before we finish.

And just like that, the rest of the detainee who have not chosen their fate yet, awaits me in front of my throne. Just like usual, their daggering glare stab my skin as the scornful face of them directed towards me.

I didn't faze though and just walk towards the throne where in I sit while Beatrice stand right beside me. Next time, I will ask for my subjects to prepare another seat, I don't feel comfortable seeing a woman stand while I'm sitting!

Alright, for the last time!

"Now, have you all chosen your fate?"

Silence...

Again... With this kind of treatment, I don't think we will find any means of an end to this if they keep doing such thing. I really am losing my patience!

"I-"

"We have chosen."

"Oh, is that right?"

A smug face form in my face as I heard the bearded man, Baron Callope, say his words. As I see it, I think the disappointing expectation of mine will happen.

"I will choose to live."

"What?"

"I will choose to live I said..."

"So you mean to betray your King and live a life as a commoner. You know the consequences, right? Living a life full of humiliation is I think worse than dying in battle."

"You made us choose, and that's what I have decided. Though, we don't expect much from a monster's ploy who slaughter any of those he deem unnecessary for his own power."

"For your information, Firstly, I keep my words as I respect your choices of honor. Secondly, I am not a monster who just slaughter people even if I deem them unnecessary. I see you judge base on what you hear. Such simplistic man you are, Baron. I see why you work under that foolish noble superior of yours."

"He is not foolish!"

"He is, and so do you. If you haven't seen his true figure that is. Though it's quite obvious from his personality, right everyone?"

I wander my gaze towards the other noble making my statement sure, only to see most of them turn their looks away from me. And that just prove it.

"Is your choice truly to live?"

"If I choose such thing, where will we even live?"

"I care not from where you will find yourself, however, as your question is necessary for the future I might say that, you can stay here if you want."

"What if we raise a rebellion? Aren't you too carefree from being a 'future king'?"

"That will be your choice, however, that will also be your last. I am letting you choose here so you can have a second chance and just like I said, I care not from where you will find yourself. That includes your decision."

"..."

Silence, huh? Looking down isn't something a nobleman should do. Instead, you should honor your own decision just like how you respect others. Taking responsibility to it is a man's duty after all.

"I see that you have made up your mind. Now then, for the rest?"

"I also choose to live."

"Me too."

"We too, choose to live."

"So that's make all of you. I see that you all have been dissatisfied with the past superior of yours. Fretnot, from hereforth, your life will be guaranteed by my name until the war ends. However, that means your situation will remain hidden until the war also ends, which means no contact from you family will be made. If one of you were to caught, I will make sure that all of you will die.",

Silence...

This people do like making this kind of irritating treatment. I really am feeling a little annoyed from it.

"Alright, now that we have to an agreement. You can all go now, I need to prepare for departure so we can head out as soon as possible. Klanz."

"Yes, your majesty."

With only the look, Klanz immediately understand my intention. He order his men to escort the remaining detainee out from the tent one by one until the last of them exited.

After confirming their disappearance, I rest my head at Beatrice's left arm. With that, she look at me with a worried face again which made me grumble a few complaining words.

"You don't need to feel that worried, I'm thankful that they all choose to live. If not, them dying will leave a bitter taste to me."

"Why is that?"

"Why is what?"

"Why do you feel remorse to those you have killed recently, yet you find it enjoyable to kill the others."

"They're different. The ones I have killed before follow orders because they were said so. Not like these nobles, they follow not because of the order, but because of their own morality. It bugs me when I do it, it makes me feel like I'm opposing their judgment which isn't suppose to be."

"I don't understand."

"We are humans, or rather, a race who have the ability to think for our own. I don't know how you find it in your world, but to mine, it is a great sin to judge a person's fate."

"Isn't that what you're doing?"

"No, I'm not judging their fate, I'm letting them choose."

"The ones before?"

"Those scum is much lower, they don't deserve to choose."

"Is that so."

"Alright, enough for questions, I have already told you so much that I feel bad for my fiancée."

And with that, I left the room along with Beatrice who still have a confuse expression on her face.

Though I don't really blame her. It's just that our own belief differs.
