Chapter 4 - Made To Be Scared: Chapter 4

-Dot-

"Hello, Dot." The woman greeted me with a sweet smile. She had long dark hair and a comforting aura. Curiously, she didn't smell like an Alpha or Omega. The only other person I knew like that was one of my caretakers, the only one of them to show any kind of kindness to me. I think he said he was called a Beta.

"Hi." I responded with a wince as I rose to a sitting position on the bed. She wore the same long white coat over her clothes, just like my caretakers, but she was far gentler and hadn't hurt me so far.

"Do you remember my name?" She asked as she shined a bright light into each of my eyes.

"Lupa." I allowed her to continue her daily routine of checking me. She asked her questions and I responded to the few I understood. This is how my time has gone for the past few days, and she seemed pleased after each check-up, so I allowed her to continue.

That is, until she picked up my arm. It was an ugly color of yellow and green, but at least the bruises were fading. I swallowed loudly as my breath hitched. The stranger who did this to me when I first came here was huge and dangerous looking, but when I thought of him, my fear mixed with something else. It was a confusing emotion, but overwhelming in it's entirety.

The first day I came to the home of these strangers, I encountered him. It was for barely a moment, but the way he looked at me burned in my soul. Slate grey eyes full of hunger and an earth moving roar. Just the sight of him struck me frozen. Even the memory of him made me tremble.

"Hurt?" Lupa placed a gentle finger to the bruising.

It didn't bother me anymore so I shook my head. "Scared." I corrected.

She tutted with a sigh and move some hair from my eyes as she peered at me. "Safe."

I offered a tiny smile, but in my heart I knew that to be a lie. I'm never safe. Even with the caretaker who showed me kindness. Even he hurt me when I didn't behave, but I still had to. I was one of the few Omegas who defended the others, who dared to stand up to the caretakers. I couldn't just watch while a friend was hurt, even if that meant I'd be punished more for it.

"Safe here." She repeated, obviously not believing my smile for a minute.

I looked to my fingers fidgeting with the hem of the loose shirt they'd given me. No matter how many times they said that word, it didn't mean anything to me. I couldn't forget about my caretakers rough hands or the weeping of the other omegas. Sooner or later, these strangers will change. They'd become like the dark haired, hulking man I met days before, snarling with hunger and ready to touch me with his penis. Just like the nice caretaker. A shiver went through my spine as I remembered the look in his eyes and his scalding touch.

Lupa let out another sigh and retreated to the door. Just before she left, she repeated one last time. "Safe."

I turned on my side and faced the wall. I heard the door click shut and knew she was gone.

It was only a matter of time.
