The sun was blinking through the blinds as I tried to adjust my pillow. Just one more chapter I told myself, already knowing that I missed my opportunity for a healthy sleep pattern. The phone in my hand was in desperate need of charging but I decided to torture it even more by increasing the brightness. What a great day to torture my electronic devices just in order for me to enjoy a new fantasy romance book. The act of reading, so joyful and divine that it is my most favorite thing in the world. Well, almost. My most favorite thing just popped up at my screen. It was a text from my best friend, what is she doing up so early? Probably the same thing as me, after all books and movies are the only thing we ever argue about.
My savior appeared like a bright light chasing away the darkness she saved me from boredom.
After twenty minutes of getting ready, choosing clothes and trying to grab something as fast as possible from the kitchen, I still had to admit that I could not make it in time to meet up with her. As I can't just let her see me like that... Like what you might ask? Just like that. There are just days where everything seems off, you look in the mirror and nothing is where it's supposed to be. The nose is bigger, the thighs are smaller and the hair is lighter. Small and probably nom existent changes, like small hedgehogs somehow got lost in my room over night and with the precision of a surgeon they rearranged and restiched every single part of my body with that needles of theirs. But stupid little hedgehogs don't know, stupid little hedgehogs don't know the body they stiched.
How would I dare to stand in front of her eyes that are like a forest on a sunny winter day. I mean, she probably wouldn't notice, but her eyes always made me nervous. And no not in a romantic kind of way, but something in that deep gaze always made me shiver, like she is just waiting to find a new weakness of your's.
I pick out the shortest mini skirt I own, that should do. Brushing my long blond hair like some kind of princess, I can't help but wonder how does not everyone fall in love with me. Sitting in the train, romantically gazing out of the window. This is definitely worth a picture.
I arrive at the city center and can already see Sophy's back from a far. The only thing let is to go unnoticed now. Hiding behind strangers I try to avoid her line of sight and at the last moment I sprint towards her. Her cute shriek makes me laugh as I hug her from behind.
-Hey! Are you totally crazy? I almost spilled my boba!
Waiving her caramel, strawberry, cream, chocolate, raspberry, dragon fruit, lemon, cinnamon, tapioca drink at me she looks very intimidating. As intimidating as a little shortie could be.
I can already hear her nagging at me for those words. Okay, okay, she's not short. Juuuust a hear shorter than I am. And that is a fact.
-I am crazy over you my darling. - I offer her my hand and she calms down as we start walking together - Boba is our sacred tradition and you got yours without me? - I shake my head - You wounded me my dear.
- Oh quit being so dramatic! - Her laughter brightens the cloudy sky around us - I can always get another one with you. Here take a sip, it's a new flavor.
And so I tried the caramel, strawberry, cream, chocolate, raspberry, dragon fruit, lemon, cinnamon, tapioca drink.
- Well it tastes very much like - I turn the cup around to see the label on it - like a caramel, strawberry, cream, Chocolate, raspberry, dragon fruit, lemon, cinnamon, tapioca drink.
Our laughter scared the ducks at the nearby river. I turned around determined to feed them.
- Hey Sophy, can I lend some of your tapioca pearls?
She followed my glance.
- Why tho?
- To feed the ducks.
Silence.
She looked at me like I was the dumbest person she ever encountered. And she even met my brother once.
I put on the brightest and most angelic smile I was capable of.
- Let me elaborate. Tapioca pearls are made out of tapioca flour correct?
- Aha - she nodded
- And tapioca is a root
- Aha
- And roots are kind of vegetables. And bread is also made out of flour.
- Aha
- So tapioca pearls are practically bread - Her stare still looked at my like at a one of a kind microbe under a plexiglass.
- Seems ledgit - She handed me the cup - But how do you get to the ducks?
I looked at the fuzzy feathery dumplings under the bridge.
Three, four, five of them. I wondered how they taste as I slowly started approaching them while balancing on the edge of the asphalted road next to the river. Since the part of the river is directly in the city center, which still tries to keep the historical buildings as accurate as possible, it is pretty clean. Just clean enough for ducks to swim there, not cleaner but also not dirtier than that.
With Sophy directly behind me I cautiously approach the ducks. With one hand keeping my balance and with one hand offering those little dumplings the tapioca pearls I try not to fall into the water. No offense to that little duckies home but after the second world war many tons of toxic waste were dumped into different lakes and rivers and to be honest I would still like to keep my appearance and not grow a third eye or a second nose.
Distracted by my thoughts about toxic waste I did not notice the asphalt under my feet getting slippery and with my last hope of finding something to grip I yeeted myself and the human Boba holder next to me into the river.
