Chapter 2 - Disappearance

It all started with the phone calls, the first one was from Andrew, my brother's roommate. He told me that James hasn't come back to the apartment or talked to him in days and he was wondering if he was at my house or if I had heard from him and that he called and texted multiple times and had gotten no reply. I told him that I was in the same boat that he was in at the moment. As worry started to fill me.

I knew Andrew liked my brother more then a friend. They've known each other since high school so they were pretty close. To comfort him I told him that hopefully James was alright and that he would be back soon. James was a paranormal investigator and he traveled a lot, but while he would always give someone a call about how things were going so not saying anything was very unusual to everyone who knew him.

The next call was just a day or two later from the police asking if I could go down to the local station to talk about my brothers disappearance. When I got there I saw Andrew. He looked a little depressed but when he saw me his eyes filled with some hope. "Jessica, long time no see. I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances." I put a hand on his shoulder. "It's alright, I'm just sorry my brother is making you worried sick." He gave me a soft smile then a policemen came into the lobby calling our names and leading us into different interrogation rooms.

The room was a bit chilly, and the walls were a washed-out white, chipping off and just screaming to be repainted. In front of me was a small styrofoam cup filled with even colder water. The door opened with a loud creaking noise making me jump a little and in walked a middle-aged policeman. He had broad shoulders, his beard and mustache just little stubble's , His hair was a dirty blonde but looked so soft as if it was silk, but his eyes were the most beautiful shade of green that looked like emeralds. I was about to wonder if this man was even a policeman at all.

"So you must know why we called you down here am I right Ms. Bailey?" His voice was soft yet firm. Almost like my father. "Yes sir I do." "Well then since you know there's no need for me to give details so tell me, when was the last time you saw your brother." He said this while looking directly into my soul as if he was internally accusing me. "Last month, he was helping me move in." He nodded his head slowly. "And may I ask if he was acting strangely or showing and behavior that wasn't normal." I shook my head. "He was excited actually, he told me while on one of his investigations another investigator was there and they got along pretty quick." "Did he say who this man was, what he looked like, and how he acted?" "I believe his name was Matthew Jones, he said he didn't know much about this person except that he was a paranormal writer and needed inspiration." He nodded slowly again. "Did you know where he was?" "He said it was a bridge called the Crybaby Bridge." He finished what he was writing down and asked me if I knew where he went. "I was told by Andrew the man down in room three that he went too the Essex Mountain Sanatorium." He stood up and told me I was free to go but we would be in contact. I nodded and left that building determined to find my brother.
