As they walked into a store with two vial's engraved on the door with one leaning on the other, the smell of many diferent oders hit their noses like a sucker punch to the senses.
Looking around they could see a counter to their left with a man standing behind it. The walls were lined with all diferent kinds of vial's. The vial's all had different colored liquids inside them. The top shelfs had a few rows that were red while the others were blue. There was yellow, purple, and green vial's as well as many other colores lineing the lower shelfs.
Rianna walked to look at the potions and let him do what he wanted.
Walking up to the counter he looked at the man in front of him. He was easly 6" and had no hair but a long well kept beard. He was wearing just some common cloth clothing and was looking at Silver.
"Can i help you with something?" The man spoke.
"I was wondering if i could learn alchemy from anyone in this town?" He replyed to the man's question.
"You want to learn alchemy do ya? Well I'm sorry but I cant help you, but my daughter might as she studied in the capital and is even the one who made everything in my shop here." He said sounding proud.
"Avery go get your sister for me." The man yelled to the back of the store.
"Okay." Hearing a faint reply the man turned back to Silver and proceeded to make conversation.
"So what makes you want to learn alchemy?" The man asked.
"I'm travleing with my friends and I got hurt pretty bad. We dont have a healer so they could only patch me up the best they could. I want to be able to make potions so we dont have that problem again." Silver said while lieing a little.
The man nodded as he would have to agree not haveing a healer is a dangerous thing for any group of adventures. So having someone to make potions is a perfect substitute. It might not be the most effective method but it will work as long as they prepair beforehand.
"So im guessing that is one of your friends." The man pointed at Rianna.
"Yes, she is actually the one who stiched my wounds." Replying to the man he nodded.
"Well thats one hell of a friend. Most adventurer groups would of left you to die." Saying this the man had a sad look on his face.
"Did you use to be a adventurer?" Silver asked the man.
Nodding the man started to speak.
"Me and my wife were both adventures and if I do say so myself, we were good ones to boot. We traveled far and wide to explore and have the time of our lives."
"The group we were in wasnt well known but we didnt care as we were after the adventure and not so much the fame. Sadly not the whole group agreed with that, so we got put on some dangerous missions and my wife lost her life. Now all I have left are our children."The man said with a bitter face.
"Im sorry to hear that." He replyed after hearing the mans story.
The man started to laugh as he patted Silvers shoulder.
"Don't let it get you down kid." the man spoke before leaning in.
"Your friend might of saved your life because she finds you just as important as how my wife was to me." The man backed off and noticed his daughter was standing there with her arms crossed.
"Dad can you tell me why I had to come out here." She spoke.
"Alicia, this person infront of me wants to learn alchemy and was wondering if anyone in town could teach him." The man informed his daughter.
"I see and does this person have a name?" Alicia spoke as she looked Silver up and down.
"His name is... I just realized I didnt catch your name." The man realized he never asked for the name of the one infront of him.
"My name is Silver." He spoke as there was no harm in telling them his name.
"Well Silver, I can teach you Alchemy but time is money so I will have to change you. lets see, how does 5 silver coins sound." Hearing this he realized he didnt have money on him so he was about to decline when Rianna walked up.
"If it's only 5 silver coins then here you go." Rianna spoke while putting exactly 5 silver coins on the counter.
"Also I would like to buy these." Proceeding to point out 6 red vial's on the shelf.
"Sure thing each vial is 4 silver so that will be 2 gold and 4 silver coins." The man behind the counter said after doing calculations on a Abacus.
Although thinking the price was high Rianna put the exact amount on the counter as it wasnt actualy hers to begin with as Rachel and herself had visited the dukes mansion to borrow some money.
Makeing sure everything was there the man started to package the vial's.
---------
While all this was happening Alicia had told Silver to follow her and they proceeded to her workshop that just so happened to be in the basement.
"So how long do I have to teach you before you have to leave?" Alicia asked as she figured they wernt buying potions for nothing.
"I have 2 days till we go to the Echo bat cave." He said.
Raising her eyebrows she realized they were adventurers that came to this town to take a look at the rumors going around about a cave nearby that has been more active of late.
"So the rumors are true then." Alicia said sounding a little down.
"Yeah some fancy looking man confirmed it in town not too long ago." Thinking of the old man annoyed him and made him frown as he spoke.
"Well I should be able to teach you the basics in two days as long as we dont get any sleep but I recommend comeing back after so I can teach you the more advanced things." Alicia said as she thought about how to cram the most important things to teach him into only 2 days.
"Well I might be able to extend our deadline but that all depends on how bad the situation at the cave is." He said as the thought of accidentally makeing a poison crossed his mind.
"Then lets get started. First I'll teach you how to use the equipment, then I'll teach you the basics of crushing the ingredients and mixing, and we can see where to go from there." She spoke as she pulled up a chair to her work station.
Sitting down he watched as she explained what all the diferent test tubes, beakers, mortar and pestals, and vial's were used for.
After explaining the tools she pulled over a basket full of diferent colored flowers and herbs.
"First we start with 2 Wine Roses. They are very efective with alleviating pain so are often used in simple health potions. The main problem with Wine Roses is that they tast like wine and can even get you drunk if you injest to much at one time."
"Wine Roses grow near wine so if you plant one and pore wine in the soil dayly you will see more grow in only a week. However you must wait two weeks or the propertys of the flower wont appear."
Picking up the 2 wine red flowers she put them into a small mortar and proceeded to crush them into a fine powder with the pestal.
"Once ground to a fine powder you put it in a beaker and move on to the second ingredient." Alicia said.
Takeing one white flower from the basket and put's it in the mortar and pestal and grind's that to a fine powder.
"This flower is called Blessed White. The name is derived from the fact that it has the power to heal wounds. They tend to only grow were there is a abundant amount of life so you will find them to be very common near towns or in larg lush forests."
"The final thing we need to do is purify the water." She said.
Takeing a beaker and putting it on a tray over a small fire comeing from a ruby red crystal. She poured 300mL of water into the beaker and waited for it to come to a boil and let it do so for a perioud of time before takeing it off.
"Now that you have all the ingredients you first want to mix the two piles of ground flowers while supplying your Mana." She proceeded to pour the Blessed White powder into the Wine Rose powder and mix while supplying her mana.
"And when they are mixed to make a light red you pour in the purified water and stir while also supplying your mana." Proceeding to do just that the purified water turned light red like the powder but as Alicia kept stirring and supplying mana the water started to become a deeper red and finaly it turned back to the wine red of the Wine Roses and only then did she stop.
[Crafting Recipe Learned: (Common Healing potion)]
"Any questions?" Alicia asked as she started to pour the liquid into 4 Vial's and then seal them.
"Do you know of any recipies to help with curses." he asked.
"You mean a elixer. Sadly the recipe was lost long ago but there was a rumor about the last one to know the recipe leaving behind his legacy somewhere but nobody knows were other than it should be surrounded by blue vines."
[(Hidden Quest Gained) Efrain's legacy]
[Hint Gained: (Blue Vines) Blue vines only grow in mana rich dark places.]
"I see." Looking at the text on his retinas he replys.
"Well are there any more common potions i should know or higher healing potions?" He asked.
laughing lightly she smiled at him.
"First I'll have you do what I did and then we will move onto antidotes. If you do all that with out much issue then I might teach you how to make more advanced potions. That being said advanced potions only add more ingredients to heighten the effects and allow for you to make potions above the uncommon rank.
So you could get by with what i will teach you."
Proceding to make potions and antidotes with Alicia for two days non stop. He had mastered mixing ingredients with mana and would get a uncommon batch of potions every now and again.
He had also learned Antidotes for Paralysis, Poison, and Petrification and even had Alicia show him how to make the advanced healing potion.
"I wish I had more time to teach you but i guess this is as much as time allows. You are a fast learner so I'm sure we could nock out all the advanced potions and antidotes in a weak." Pouting Alicia said as she was enjoying being a teacher.
"Now my final leson before you go is to experiment as much as posible. Learning new recipes is a great feeling and can help widen your knowledge. What I have taught you is only common knowledge amoung alchemists." Alicia said to him.
Getting up and bowing to her he spoke.
"Thank you so much and I promise to be back as soon as my job is over so I can learn more if you will allow."He said and her eyes lit up.
Standing back up straight he started to walk out of her workshop and as he waved to say goodbye she spoke to him.
"Don't you forget your promise then and I'll make sure to learn a few more recipes so I can teach those to you as well." Exited at the prospect of teaching again she waved as he started to leave.
