BEE GEES BURGER JOINT
"Are you seeing this shit?" Mya asked, surprised at the headline that covered the front page of Sinner's Daily Newspaper. Things had been so busy that day at Bee Gee's that the girl had only now gotten the chance to take a break. It was 6:45 in the afternoon now, and an exhausted waitress and her friend sat alone at the dinner, her boss having gone home for the day, after entrusting her with the key to close up shop.
"Body of 18-year-old Missei Ellington found…. They killed Missei!!!."…. Damn. How they done killed Missei and she ain't ever gone nowhere? I swear that girl be going to the church and that's it. She doesn't even keep friends like that…wow.''
Amina gasped while she leaned over the table, looking at the story in utter disbelief. The girls weren't entirely shocked about Missei's death though, truth is, people they knew died everyday here. It was a common occurrence, but they had gone to school with Missei and known her personally, being only two grades in front of her at Knoxsford Prep and at Knoxford High.
"Soooo….me, Helena, Eleana and Yasmin are gonna hit this club in East Flora. Sure you don't wanna change out of your work clothes and come babe?"
Amina queried, quickly jumping off of the gloomy topic because she knew the road that Mya was about to lead her down to. She wasn't about to let the death of some girl that was way too simple minded to stop her from enjoying her life as a vibrant 21-year-old. She knew she'd never get these moments in life back! This is the youngest she would ever be, and the Knox's high crime rate and improvised conditions wasn't going to impede that. She had a plan to get out of here after all…. Despite being very educated and focused, Amina was also a party girl. She liked going out and having fun and being seen, and making connections, she hated staying in that broken down, shitty apartment complex with all those screaming children and tried to stay out as much as she could.
"It's gonna be really fun gurl. Free drinks for ladies before 11 and get this..We could find you a lil boyfriend. Carron Prielee's gonna be there. Ayyyyeeee"
Amina chanted, chuckling and swaying her hips against Mya's side to hopefully inspire laughter but Mya, being her usual uptight self was visually unimpressed. She blinked slowly, folding her arms as she stared at her friend who, she wished for once, would take things seriously.
She looked down at Amina who had her hands on her knees, moving her hips up and down in the most awkward way, Mya looked down at the girl and tried to stifle her smile, but couldn't hide it anymore. The corners of her oval face ascended, her full lips parted showing her porcelain teeth and the cute dimples that Amina loved to see. If it was one thing about Amina she never liked seeing Mya down and out, their lives were short enough as it is, and one never knew what would happen to them the next day in a place like the Knox, Sinnera.
"Okay okay okay! Get off me. And you know I hate em rich snobby playboys who been around with everybody"
They both laughed and sat down in the orange and black booths, Amina shifted uncomfortably in the constricted seat, the strips of worn out leather sticking out and itching her back.
Bee's Burgers might have been the hit back in the 1960's but now everything in that restaurant was worn down. Most annoyingly, the leather covered seats that were stuffed with cotton were now damaged and used up, raddled with those white streaks that showed how tired the material was. The 5 ft." 8-inch girl looked awkward adjusting her skinny frame in that tiny booth, especially in that pinched leather dress that stopped right above her knee, making her bone like limbs look even lengthier. Her attire was nothing short of lavish and unblemished, but she was so skinny. Had it not been for the crème mini coat she was wearing she would've represented a chestnut colored skeleton.
Mya could still smell the new coat of gel on Amina's freshly done nails, the annoyingly pink color glistened under the florescent light, she took the edge of her acrylic and barely popped the plastic container that had a neat slice of chocolate cake open, scoping a piece in her plastic spoon and putting it in her mouth.
"Mmmmmmm!!! Ya wanna know sumn Mya? No matter how old and raggedy this place is, a bitch will neeeeevvvveeeer ! Get tired of Bee Gee's chocolate cake. I don't know what the hell that man puts in them cakes but gurl! Tell your boss to keep flexing that elbow grease in em cakes cause it's delicious. Ugh! Damn. Delicioso" she remarked.
The body of her wavy dark brown hair shook as she flung her head back, batting her lengthy mink lashes, her high cheek bones reached even higher while she chewed, licking the crumbs off of her lips and fully enjoying the pastry. The content young lady was completely unbothered by her friend's dagger like glare from across the table, Mya's saucer eyes turned to minute desert spoons now, the wrinkles forming on her forehead above her narrowed, judging eyebrows.
She slanted her head against her folded fist, pushing up her already round cheeks on it as she rested her arm on the table. Taping her fingers in unison she looked at Amina and wondered to herself…Hadn't she known it was a danger to shine this beautifully in a hazardous place like Knox Sinnera? Mya always admired how feminine Amina kept herself, she was truly drop dead gorgeous and ever more so with makeup, (and as her friend she was secretly jealous of her looks), but nonetheless she loved that aspect about Amina. That was just who she was. But often times, it worried her the most. . What if a few drunk men who noticed her dazzling beauty at a bar somewhere, waited patiently till she was alone to corner her in a dark parking lot? What if she outshined others in the room and some jealous immature girls decided to gang up on her and stab her to death? She swallowed hard and sighed, thinking of the possibility of seeing Amina's dead, naked, lifeless body on the cover of The Sinnera Synopsis and shuddered. Her beauty was a magnet of misfortune!
First of,, Amina was one of if not the most beautiful girls in Sinnera. Her face was shaped like a heart; an acute chin that rose up to slightly rounder cheek bones, the edges of her straight jet black hairline coming around in a slight dip that framed her face. She had perfectly arched eyebrows that coupled with her cat like, feline eyes, leading down to a nose bridge that was so straight and elegantly sloped. Her lips were naturally pink and proportionately shaped, not too plump, yet not thin. And she had the perfect size, she was slender with an athletic body and a decent pair of double C breasts. Honestly she was like an Egyptian Goddess. Or a painting or something. And that is what's wrong, Amina had no concept of toning it down or blending in for no one. Mya feared every day that that was exactly what would've gotten her into trouble. Thinking about it infuriated her all over again.
"I'm not frickin playing wid yo ass Amina. That could've been your dead body used up smacked around and stabbed up like that! Imagine all the fucked up things them thugs did to that girl before she died! Imagine how scared she was. What's the last thing she was thinking of. How her mama feel knowing she aint gone neva see her little girl again..."
Mya stood up, her voice raised as she towered over the girl who tenderly shifted her make up stuff around in her mini white cotton padded bag, it looked so luxurious with the notorious diamond studded "D'' that was on the front of it. Mya acknowledged that she wasn't paying attention and stood there, quietly.
It was silent now. Amina realized her friend wasn't saying anything so she looked up.
"What? You like my bag? It's made of crock skin leather and it's from St. Duke. "To be wealthy, you have to dress like the wealthy…'' she mocked the salesperson on the radio that she heard every time a St.Duke's commercial came on.
''It's the most affluent clothing and bag brand in the industry of Sinnera. Got it fo bout a hunnid from Tae Lee, I swear that hooka sets me up with the best shit"
she continued bragging, flashing her paper white smile and hoping she could get a chuckle out of Mya again. But she got quite the opposite, Mya was visibly upset now that she realized Amina was paying no attention to her concerns. Amina watched her friend from head to toe in her pale waitress uniform, with that damned familiar gold chain swinging around her neck with the circular pendant, an old worn out looking thing like a piece of paper was stuck inside, along with a stripped key attached to it. She rolled her eyes wishing Mya would have thrown that damned chain away, she wore it every day and for the wrong reasons;
The fact that it was already a fashion horror story along with the washed out grey tunic was reason enough. If it wasn't for her pretty face, hourglass figure and her nicely sized breasts it would've been a complete disaster. One of these days she swore to give Mya a makeover whether she liked it or not. She blushed in jealousy, always a bit envious of her friends femininely shaped body, wishing that she wasn't such a stick and had curves like she did. If anything, Mya should be worried about her sexy ass being kidnapped. Because if I was a man I would surely take that Amina thought to herself cheekily.
