The statue was tall, almost twice as tall as Marcus. It was made of dark green stone, carved in the shape of a beautiful woman with long, wavy hair, clad in plate armor. Her right foot and left arm were missing, and her right was raised to the sky, carrying a broken sword. The face, which showed several cracks, had fine and delicate features. Her eyes had a look of dignity and authority.
Marcus turned away from his mount and walked toward the fountain. When he was close enough, he noticed the worn symbol on the statue's breastplate: a triangle within a circle surrounded by straight and wavy lines like rays of the sun. He immediately recognized it as the emblem of the Church of Life and Death, which worshiped Yhalene, the goddess of reincarnation.
