Chapter 3
Dru
Coming back to reality, I shake my head "Dru come back to us now DRU!" Astrid coos next to me.
"I'm good I'm back no need to be dramatic" I reply to her slightly rolling my eyes at her theatrics.
Dr Maddox comes into view, approaching he states "next time do not leave out when you have an episode" he says raising his right eyebrow. Dr Maddox was not an unattractive man; he had older rugged features. Deep hazel eyes with slight worry lines permanently on his face, most likely from years of this job. "Yes sir" I sighed. Walking further into the garden I inhale deeply; I feel immediately calm. The garden is set up in five areas: the flower garden, the bird cages, the willow trees, the animal garden, and the maze. My personal favorite is the maze. At the very end of the gardens, there is no exit, only one entrance. It goes on for a quarter of a mile. Twisting vines and flowers and a small fountain with a pavilion sitting dead center of the fountain. Bridges going out on either side, I sit there and sketch every Monday.
"Astrid, I'm going to walk to the center now I'm fine and I will see when they blow the whistle". She nodded her head and waved me off. Following the vibrant greens of the maze I know generally it is so full but today its quite very quiet. I slow my pace to be able to take a better look around. Listening for any movement I hear none "that's odd" I squeak out. Normally it takes me between seven to ten min to walk there today it took me fifteen. Walking up the steps to the bridge, I smell cinnamon and clove with a little soap mixed in. I freeze instantly when I make it to the top step, there is a boy no not the right word man sitting in the middle on my pillow I brought here to read on. He was gorgeous, tall, very built in the Viking way. The man had deep coco colored eyes so rich you could fall in, and his lips were so plump. He wore a black button up shirt and black slacks. The shirt was rolled up to his elbows and he looked so relaxed. "Um… hello" I say, clearing my throat. He looks up at me with a startled expression. "Hi, I'm sorry can I help you"? He looked so puzzled to see me.
"I didn't mean to disrupt you, but I come here every Monday to sketch"
"Ok, so sit and sketch. I will be quiet. I have faith we can share the space peacefully" he laid back down.
Sitting I pull out my book and different pencils and set them out like always. Staring at the utensils I couldn't think of what to do, this had never happened before I had always been able to just pick it up and go. Sighing I state "unfortunately I can't focus so I think I'm going to go no big deal. I promise the space is yours and I'm sorry for disturbing you" I sat up on my knees and started grabbing my stuff. Then out of nowhere he grabbed my arm "ma'am you don't have to leave I will" getting to his feet he walks toward the bridge. "what's your name?" I ask.
"Kallum March, but most people call me Kal" and with a slight smile he walks away.
Well, I sure as hell know what I want to draw now. This beautiful man, I start with his eyes. The depth of them is hard to convey. Next his strong jaw line the near point of his nose and the slight point of his ears. That's interesting, almost fairy-like. The broad shoulders and thick pecs you could see through his shirt. My cheeks heat the whole time I am putting pencil to paper. I hear a whistle through the air, and I know it's time to go so I collect my things and slowly walk out of the maze in a more chipper mood than normal. Astrid approaches me when I clear the exit "hey girly, how did the drawing go? Were they dark and dreary as normal?" she questions. I debate on whether I should tell her about Kal. I decided against it, nodding my head, and walking to go
inside, lunch is ready and I'm starving. Making our way to the dining hall I notice how there are no nurses walking around like usual puzzled I move along. Entering the lunchroom, I see all the staff of the hospital standing to the left of the tables. Dr. Maddox waves me over. Approaching him I see none other than Kal step up next to him. "What can I do for you doc?" I have a question.
"It is regarding the conversation we had this morning. Well, this is the doctor that will be taking over my patients. Meet Doctor March"
Well, I was not expecting this at all. What should I say? Hello, glad to be working with the man who can make any panties drop with one look. Oh my god this is going to end badly! Stepping forward he pushes his hand forward for a shake. I grasp his hand and instantly I feel pins and
needles. His skin is so soft and warm. I jerk my hand free worrying he felt the same thing I mean how could he not be right. Steadying my heart rate with a deep breath I say, "nice to meet you sir".
"I'm hardly a Sir Drusilla please Kal will work just fine"
Nodding my head again I get out of there. I can't handle it. He is like standing on top of Mt Everest. The air is so thin, and your chest feels tight.
Lunch wasn't long and the staff gathering was just to introduce Dr. March to all the patients. We generally do schoolwork after Lunch, and I have some serious catching up in history to do. So, I move to my room taking in the quiet tranquility of it all. Sitting at my desk, pull out my workbooks
and get started reading about North man, known for being one of the most vicious warriors known to mankind today. I love to learn about the history of the clans moving through the mountains of Norway. Iv always felt a deep connection with them almost universal even.
