Chapter 9 - Everyone Needs a Hero in Their Hearts

He did not run in a straight line on the road. It would be too dangerous. He would not even know where the shot would come from.

Han Gui was not greedy. He ran in the direction of the bungalow by the sea. En route, there was a small housing area next to the seaside farm.

Although it was close, a detour now would be a little time-consuming. But still, he wanted to check it out.

With full energy, Han Gui moved extremely fast. It only took him a few minutes to cover the distance of seven to eight hundred meters.

Han Gui hid behind a rock and watched his destination from afar. He did not rush forward rashly. It was quiet in the housing area. Some doors were open while others were closed. But there were no signs of bullets.

There were only two possibilities. First, it might be that the person who had passed through here did not have the habit of closing the doors behind him, unintentionally making it seem as if there was no one around.

Second, it might be that some people were smart and knew how to close the doors after themselves while others were stupid and did not do so. However, without exception, they did not seem to be at war. They probably wanted to stay in the rankings and become the last ten people alive.

However, Han Gui could not keep watching.

This time, he did not intend to kill anyone. He wanted to live in peace for a while.

He snuck up to one of the houses and leaned against the wall. Then he went to the door and quietly opened it.

The moment he sneaked in, Han Gui saw traces of collected resources on the ground.

Someone had been here before!

Their search had not been clean. There were still throwing objects and some scattered accessories on the ground. It was probably because he was reserving whatever remaining space he had in his backpack, so he did not take all of them. It could also be that he might have been collecting them in panic.

Han Gui took out the shrapnel grenade. He was not sure if there was anyone on the first floor. He would just throw in a grenade first! At the very least, he would have a safe place to hide.

Clang!

The shrapnel grenade rolled in and exploded a few seconds later. The shockwave from the force of the explosion shook the entire building. Taking advantage of this moment, Han Gui bent down and ran in.

Perhaps it was an illusion, but when the grenade exploded, Han Gui heard a slight scream.

...

Everyone had a hero in their hearts. Even in this impetuous 21st century, such people still existed, such as Yang Xinyue.

She would never forget the person who protected her when she was five years old. When a wolfdog confronted her, a small boy stood between them despite his small figure.

However, reality was always cruel. As they grew up, their families came between the relationship of the poor boy and the beautiful rich girl. But Yang Xinyue's resolve was not as weak as she looked.

She had been determined from early on. When the boy left, she refused to give up. Sooner or later, he would come back to her

She was willing to endure it all. After all, she was not a materialistic person that desired a luxurious life. All she wanted was to be with the boy in a safe haven together.

Unfortunately, the heavens seemed to deliberately make things difficult for her. When she excitedly went to look for the boy so that they could enter a survival game together, he had not been home.

In the end, she disappeared from her world and entered Infinite Game all by herself. The next thing she knew, she had arrived at the Island of Ruins.

Infinite Game? Ten remaining survivors? Kill each other?

She had come from a relatively peaceful society and such game rules made her afraid. She had parachuted and barely managed to run into a building with her weak legs upon landing. With great fear, she brought herself to pick up self-defense weapons and stumbled her way up the stairs to hide.

She was afraid. She was so afraid. Every information she read about on the tactical panel made her tremble.

People would really die here! She could still return to the real world but with only one year to live!

She would also forget all the things that happened here. But what scared her the most was that she would not be able to be with the person she wanted the most.

Yang Xinyue had been in hiding with fear for an hour. But every passing minute felt like hell.

Due to her nervousness, her senses were sharpened. Every movement and sound, like the chirping of insects outside, was extremely clear to her.

Suddenly, she heard the door open followed by some footsteps. Before she knew it, there was an explosion, as if a bomb had gone off. The violence of the explosion that shook the house made Yang Xinyue tense up even more. She instinctively let out a soft scream.

She immediately covered her little mouth.Hher oval face turned pale and her big black eyes filled with fear.

She was terrified. There was someone downstairs and she did not want to die. She hoped that at this helpless moment, the man in her heart would come to rescue her as he did in the past.

She curled up on the bathroom floor with a gun in her hands pointed at the door.

"Brother Han Gui, Xinyue is so scared." She whimpered softly, not daring to make too much noise. But she was prepared. The moment the person opened the door, she would pull the trigger.

Downstairs, Han Gui did not know that there was a girl upstairs who had mentioned his name. After collecting the supplies downstairs, Han Gui walked upstairs vigilantly.

He did remember hearing someone's voice upstairs. The sound was very short, but it was there. It sounded like a girl's.

Was he going to kill the girl? He had never done this before, but in order to survive, he had to do it. There was no one here who could make him feel at ease.

His footsteps were especially heavy. Han Gui did not want to face it. He wanted to turn around and leave, but he could not!

Being merciful to the enemy was being cruel to himself. He did not want to have any regrets. What if she was left alive here but then shoot him in the finals?

With the stun grenade in his hand, Han Gui was already prepared. The moment he threw it in, he covered his ears.

The flash of the stun grenade did not reach him, but the ear-piercing sound still made him feel uncomfortable.

He heard a soft sound and ran to the second floor with the AKM in his arms. He glanced around, but none of the rooms were open. This meant that he had to open the doors one by one.

He was mentally prepared for this kind of door-breaking battle as he had done it a lot in P City.

With one foot at the door, he instantly leaned against the wall. If someone was there, they would definitely shoot the moment the door was broken.

On the quiet second floor, Han Gui quickly peeked inside the room. But there was no one there. Now there were only two rooms left on the second floor.

One was a bedroom, the other, a bathroom.

He kicked open the other bedroom door, but there was no one there either.

Now Han Gui was standing at the bathroom door. Han Gui twisted the doorknob and pulled his hand back the moment he pushed the door open.

Da! Da! Da!

"Ah!!! Go to hell!"

The moment the door opened, ear-piercing gunshots and screams of fear echoed throughout the building!
