Chapter 22 - JAGGED

2004 AD

"Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!"

He woke up sweating profusely after a very long nightmare. Unknown to him, he had been cursed by a demon and possess the mark of the reaper. His vision had become so blur and all he sees now are evil.... Death.... Famine.... War!!!

He ran out of his room and went to warn his parent. His dream has always come true— mostly the evil ones. But he was tired of been called a freak; so most times, he keeps the dreams to himself— but this was about his parents... Their future!!! So he had to warn them.

"Mom... Dad..." He said barging into his parent room. "Please, don't go"

His father bent to meet his height and gave him a tap on the shoulder.

"I know you going to miss us... But the meeting is very important. Don't worry, we are only spending a few days" he said

But things was so different from the way they were seeing it. This ain't going to be a regular goodbyes.... The goodbyes will be forever!

"But dad—"

"No 'but' son.... Walter is here to take care of you, so don't worry"

"This ain't about that!" He screamed, getting their attentions. This wasn't about them traveling on a business meeting— this was far more complicated than that.

"I'm so sorry" he said softly "— I had a dream..."

"So all this drama was about your dream?" His mother said, and he nodded. "Son I already told you that dreams ain't real— they are just our imaginations"

"Mom, mine is different—"

"No they ain't" his father interrupted "you only choose to believe them but they ain't real"

He stood there looking dumb. His parent had won the battle— but there was nothing he could do to save them from the trouble ahead... So he prayed silently.

He watched them get dressed and head out of the château. He peeped from the window and saw them being ushered inside a limousine; with the chauffeur returning to the wheels. And that was the last time he saw his parents.

Fergus rallied round the school preaching about the second coming of Christ and the revelation shown to him. He knew that there was something special about him and the gift he possess... But he couldn't find another meaning to it aside for the fact that he was a messenger of God.

He was ready to spread the good news and preach against evil.

"Oh! My beloved student, Jesus loves you— he died for your sins...."

His words weren't really registering into the ears of the students, but he wasn't ready to give up. He was willing to fight hard till the end even though most of them had giving him different names... Still, he wasn't ready to give up.

Boo!!!

That was the word coming from any student he tries to approach. They were really going to frustrate him and let him find a new latitude.

"Dude, why don't you quit school and enroll in an asylum" a male voice came amidst the student.

But Fergus wasn't ready to give up. Sometimes, he hears strange voice echoing some words to him— directing him on what to do— pushing and forcing him to voice out. Most times, Fergus thinks he was mentally retarded— with most of his actions coming from what he hears or saw.

So as he walked pass the hallway, running from those chants and tumult behind him. He saw some students talking about vampires— and their existence. At first, Fergus ignored them— but the voices crying in his ear won't just let him stop.... He just couldn't help it but turn back and interfere in the discussion.

"Vampires are not real!" He screamed, and the student jerked. "They are just an imagination of a wretched author who created an imaginary villain and later turned him into the hero of the people"

"Bram Stoker wrote the first vampire story— like a century ago" a student protested.

"What if vampires are living among us? You never can tell where Bram got his inspiration from" another student protested.

"So Bram encountered a vampire— and wrote his heart thrilling novel..." Fergus guffaw "you guys are just so dumb— Vampire ain't real!"

Adam walked pass them and smiled. He pondered how they would react knowing that the vampires don't only exist, they also lived among them. So he went to class ignoring Fergus and his theory.

"Did you see that chubby guy?" Adam said, joining his caucus.

"Who?" Derrick asked

"An idiot claiming to see vision and I also heard him saying we are not real... That we don't exist"

"Well, he is correct. To the humans— we don't exist" Alex said

"—but some of the humans believe in our existence" Derrick protested

"...cause they chose to believe in something they haven't seen" Alex smiled, as something pop up in his head. "Just like how the humans believe in an imaginary feeling called love"

Cole lowered his glasses and gave Alex a hard stare.

"Somebody is in love" he said, laughing.

"Me? Love? Oh No! Am not!" Alex said, sarcastically.

But Cole was ready to tackle him. He had always wondered what Alex finds so fascinating in the stadium. Something that swept him off his feet and makes him giddy up without thinking twice.

"—so what the hell are you always doing in the stadium? Everyday!" Cole tackled.

"And that is none of your business—"

"Stop it!!! You guys should hold your peace" Adam said calming them. "Cole! What the hell is wrong with you? If Alex don't want to share, you don't have to force him"

Well!!!

It wasn't a secret or so... Cause sooner or later they would find out but Alex wasn't sure whether to tell them now or maybe he would wait till she gives him a perfect reply.

"Attention student!!!" Fergus screamed, clanging a metal rod on the locker.

"Who the hell is that again?" Adam half screamed. And the boys left the class to see what was going on.

"What the hell is wrong with this fat boy!" Derrick couldn't hide his anger

"—I hear voices... Whispering to me— pushing me to say this words to you—" Fergus began, but his words were followed by boos even before he could finish his sentence.

"I think its high time someone shut this guy up" the voice came among the student.

"No matter what you say, I will deliver this message!!!" Fergus wasn't ready to back down "—this world is rotten; this country is bleeding— with the people dwelling in evil thoughts—"

"And how is this shit of use to us?" Adam smirked and turned to return to class.

"—stop reading; watching or listening to evil news... They does more evil than good. Vampires or whatsoever supernatural creatures you have read or watched— forget them cause they don't exist..."

Instantly, Adam turned back fuming. He was tired of listening to Fergus and won't mind shutting him up.

"I think someone have to teach this son of a bitch some lessons" Adam said, trying to drift towards him.

Alex held him instantly. Teaching Fergus a lesson in front of the students comes with a lot of risks— the risk of showcasing themselves to the world. Alex wasn't ready to take that risk... At least not now!

"Put yourself together Adam" he said, shaking Adam vigorously. "Just ignore him"

"Well I can't. I have had enough of his shitty talks today" Adam said, freeing himself from Alex. "I'm going to teach him a lesson"

Alex surrendered, he knew there was nothing he could do to change Adam mind with Cole and Derrick in support of teaching Fergus a lesson. So he had to join them also, but he was against them hurting him.

Adam signaled Cole and Derrick. It was just like they do in the penthouse but then, it was just only the three of them. So, they were to lure Fergus into the toilet and let the disciplinary class began.

The two boys walked pass Fergus who was still ranting in his usual manner. Most of the students had dispatched from his little emergency meeting. The name psychopath— psychic— idiot— had been the student chants... But with all their efforts, Fergus wasn't ready to change.

"Dude" Derrick called from behind, splashing a cup of lemonade on Fergus.

"What the fuck dude!" Fergus screamed, but Derrick only smiled— signaling him to the lavatory and then walked away.

"Not even a sorry!" Fergus continued from behind.

Fergus grew so frustrated and went to the lavatory complaining. He saw Adam and Alex standing at the north and west of the toilet.

"Behold the white family" he whispered, mockingly and then went to the basin.

Cole and Derrick entered the lavatory and then close the door behind them. It was really a perfectly worked out plan to show Fergus some lessons. Derrick and Cole grabbed him instantly from behind. Fergus tries to fight them off, but he was no match of them— His chubby body had failed him and his strength wasn't even half of them.

After several failed attempt of trying to free himself, Fergus surrendered.

"What the hell did I do wrong?" He asked

"You said vampires are crap" Derrick said, shaking him.

"Vampires? Is this about vampires? So you are a fan of Bram?"

"Nah!" Adam said, stepping up to the pace "we are the actual vampire— the night crawlers!"

Fergus couldn't hide the laughter that build up in him.

Vampire? Night crawler? The white family? He just couldn't correlate the whole thing. So he just waved it off as a usual prank.

Adam was ready to go to the extreme— He was ready to show Fergus the real him even if Alex was against it. So he growl— showing his canine which became more visible than ever.

On seeing those blood quenching fangs, Fergus shivered. He couldn't believe vampires were real— he had always thought they were just fiction. So he tries to free himself from the hold of Cole and Derrick. It was just too impossible.

"Do you now believe vampires are real?"

Fergus mouth quiver and nothing audible was heard from it. It was just like a dream to him— vampires were real? Oh bullshit!

"Now clean up your mess" Alex said, fixing Adam a hard stare.

Adam grabbed Fergus by the shoulder— it was the easiest thing he has ever done not until he met Freya in the woods.

"—forget everything you have seen or learnt about vampires.... Just know that vampires are real and they live among you—" Adam voice came with a soothe tone.... But things didn't go as planned. Fergus resist the compulsion somehow.

"What the fuck!!! How can I forget that vampire live among us—" Fergus voice came so strong, not even fearing them anymore.

"What just happened now?" Alex asked with surprise..

"My compulsion failed for the second time" Adam said in disbelief.

Alex grabbed Fergus without hesitation— he tossed him over to the other side of the lavatory. Alex took a deep breathe and look straight into Fergus eyes— his pupil became so blunt and spiral.. With Fergus ear opening wide to the whispers from Alex.

"Forget the whole vampire dramas— just know that we exist and live among you... Now go home and—"

Alex couldn't finish the sentence before Fergus freed himself from his gripped.

"Yours failed too?" Derrick asked

"Seems so"

Instantly, Adam drifted in a seconds and pinned Fergus to the wall. They were so surprise he could resist the compulsion.

"Who the hell are you?" Adam yelled "— you are also a northern witch? Southern? What are you?"

Adam wasn't ready to show mercy on him. Fergus groan in pain— not knowing what to say... Fear had gripped him and he thought he was going to die soon.

"Who the hell are you?" Adam voice came very defiant this time.

"I don't know—" Fergus lips quivered "...maybe a fairy or an angel"

"Don't be ridiculous!" Adam shook him so hard.

Alex could see how Adam was reacting. His reaction had gone beyond normal— he was going rogue and had taking it so personal. Alex didn't know what he would use to qualify Adam reaction... But it seems Adam was scared— he had orchestrated the whole thing— all in the name of trying to show Fergus some lesson. Now he is in deep shit and doesn't know how to save himself.

"Calm down Adam" Alex said calming him. "...Don't worry, we will find a way out of all this mess"

"I think it is advisable we take him to the penthouse—" Cole said after a deep thought.

"Nah!" Alex protested instantly. He knew what they would do to him if they can't make him forget the whole incident. They would kill him and if they don't, they would turn him into a vampire— and that would be the end of his life.

"The penthouse ain't a good idea— they could kill him" Alex insisted, and Fergus shiver with the sound of death. He wonder how many of them live in the penthouse— Fergus just couldn't think straight but he wasn't ready to be devour by a vampire.

"don't worry, I will take care of it" Alex added

"And how will you do that?" Adam asked, with his eye shinning bright.

Alex didn't even know what to do. He wasn't sure if the stuff would work but he was ready to give it a try. So he freed Fergus from Adam grip.

"We ain't going to kill you" Alex began "— and we won't take you to the penthouse either... But know that the day you tell anybody about our existence, you will be as good as dead and nobody will remember you ever existed"

Fergus wasn't sure if he was to be grateful or scared— he just wasn't himself.

"I'm damn serious!" Alex voice changes it tone and had become very deep and blood thirsty.

Fergus nod in agreement instantly. He just didn't know what to say—

"—and will that work?" Adam asked, but Alex only gave him a nod.

Alex suddenly remembered he owed Fergus something— an object that had made him think otherwise. So Alex brought out Fergus smartphone and gave it to him.

"It wasn't the rapture" Alex said, smiling.

Fergus was so shocked. He then realized that vampires are everywhere and there is no place he could hide that would be safe. The only way he could keep his head was to keep his mouth shut and pretend as if nothing happened.

The whole secret was too heavy to be buried in his heart— he wondered if there was a way they could erase that part of his life... Because he was going to see more of them and that would be deadly.

So Fergus wondered what he was? Why he resisted compulsion?

He couldn't find a theory to correlate the whole thing because aside from the evil dreams that always come true, he had no other powers to be called a supernatural.
