Chapter 8 - Weapon art selection

'I'm alive...I'm alive...I'm alive' this was the only thought on my mind after coming back to my room from the infirmary.

The next morning I woke up early in the morning and proceeded with my regular body training. After finishing my training I freshened up and directly went to find Mr. Hawk. Yesterday since both Drake and I fainted during our sparring session we were unable to select our weapon art manuals, so we were informed to find Mr. Hawk to select our manuals today.

After arriving at the first year building I met Drake who looked sullen and he even ignored my greeting shrugging my shoulders I followed him inside the building.

As we walked inside the building we received a message from Mr. Hawk to directly come to the library to get our manuals. I surveyed my surrounding to check if we were under surveillance, like what are the chances of receiving this message right after entering the building 'coincidences can be scary' I lamented before moving towards the library.

Mr. hawk was standing right in front of the library gate seeing that we have arrived he swiped a reddish-black card against the security panel,

"You can choose any one manual from here scan the code of your chosen manual with your watch, distribution of any manual is strictly forbidden in any form." he informed us before opening the gates.

The library was huge to say the least it occupied a whole floor of our building after all, with neatly arranged weapon art manuals sorted according to their respective weapon sections.

I easily found the section for twin swords there were about 15 manuals in this section and just like I remembered in the past there were even some rare manuals here.

Weapon arts are categorized in five levels common, rare, epic, legendary and mythical; there is also a special level called unique which represents the manuals tailor made specifically for some particular special powers.

Directly eliminating all common level manuals I was left with 3 manuals Shadow mantis, Sonic blade and Illusory blade. All the manuals provided a brief introduction and their strong and weak points, reading these details I simplified the information for these manuals.

Shadow mantis art is a type of assassination art which focuses on a single blow to deal lethal damage to the opponent it's name comes from its mantis like stance, there is a really high chance for bleeding damage which increases with increase in mastery.

Sonic blade is a balanced art which focuses on high speed attacks which keep stacking and on every tenth strike a sonic blast is created, the number of strikes to create a sonic blast would decrease with increase in mastery.

Illusory blade art creates many illusory blades to confuse the opponent the number of blades increases with increase in mastery.

After reading these descriptions I really wanted to just take all of them with me but I could only silently lament in my heart. I only came across a single rare manual in my previous life which was a defense art named cross shield, silently cursing my past self for picking a useless light saber I proceeded with comparing the three manuals.

The bleeding effect is good and all but it's useless in a direct confrontation that leaves me with these two. This is really hard both of them match with my style, taking a deep breath I finally chose Illusory blade because although the effect for Sonic blade was good there is always a chance that you'll be interrupted before completing ten consecutive strikes.

Scanning the code for Illusory blade I reported my choice to Mr. Hawk before directly going back to my room.

The good thing about Realm is the amount of independence given to students is really high, the students can choose whether they want to attend a lecture or not if their written scores are satisfactory and they can pass the written exam otherwise these lectures are compulsory for them.

As for me I got in Realm with my written score mainly and with my future knowledge the written exams are a piece of cake for me so I can solely focus on increasing my combat strength.

Opening the Illusory blade manual I read the detailed information about the art as well as its basic principles. What I concluded after sorting out this information was that the art uses mana to bend and reflect light making the illusory blades appear.

After sorting out all the information and gaining a basic understanding of this art I went to the training field to start practicing this art.

The training field was relatively empty with only six students present there two at the shooting range, three at the swimming pool and one of them was practicing his sword art in the field. I actually didn't recognize any of them it's not that I have a bad memory its just that many students were killed before even graduating from realm.

Standing in front an open field I opened the holographic tutorial of Illusory blade art and neon blue lights gathered in my eyes forming a basic human silhouette with red twin swords in his hands.

The figure slowly started to perform the various stances of the Illusory blade step by step as green light representing the mana flow flowed through his body into the blades in a complicated pattern and after he finished performing the art I could see multiple red colored blades every time his blade strikes.

Gaining a basic understanding of the stances I mimicked the actions of the figure from the beginning without using mana after repeating it multiple times and getting some what familiar with them I proceeded to match my mana flow with the figure.

Soon I was completely immersed in my training and time continuously passed by after two hours later I was lying on the ground completely drenched in sweat while panting heavily. Even after all this training I was still far from reaching even basic mastery in the current art.

It'll take me about two more days to achieve that I thought to myself before dragging my tired body back to my room.
