Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

"WAIT!"

Craig looked up as a student rushed to his side while grabbing the yard stick.

"Before we cross the line of killing someone who hasn't turned yet. We should really think about this. How do we know that anything is going to happen to her just from a bite. We all know that this is airborne but this is the first time we saw someone get bit. Why don't we just keep an eye on her. That way later on if we find out that this truly is only airborne then we won't regret it."

This calmed a bunch down, however not everyone. "I don't want to wait to see if something happens because then it will be too late."

Some people in the audience followed up by saying, "yeah."

Craig looked around seeing two different sides of conflict. Finally calming down himself, he saw reasoning in both sides and came with the best solution. "Your right, I don't want to regret killing someone that didn't need to die. If we are safe here then maybe she should just leave."

At that moment everyone was starting to nod and agreeing.

Letting go of the yard stick, Craig held out his hand for her to grab with her uninjured hand. Jess was still softly weeping as he helped her on her feet. "I'm sorry to do this to you but it's too uncertain."

He took a moment and gave her a respirator mask. "We don't have a weapon in here but if you search the school, I'm sure that you can find something. We just don't want you in the gym but you could stay in a different part of the school if you really need to." He said.

She only nodded while holding her disoriented hand. As she left, all the students were hoping that they made the right choice.

Jess made her way into the cafeteria in search for a knife of some sort. Making her way back behind the food bar, she found Chef's knife. As she was looking around for any type of first aid kit, she heard footsteps coming from inside the cafeteria. Scared that it was a crazy, she took cover and gripped tightly on the chef's knife while trying to control her breathing. She slowly peaked the corner and saw a hooded figure with a sword drawn. Her breath was shaky as she looked down at her knife thinking to herself 'what the hell do it do with this versus a crazy with a sword.' She was down right terrified as he made his way to the kitchen where she was. Watching him from a far, she saw him grab an apple from the cooler and begin eating it. She then realized he was just some random guy snooping through the kitchen. Realizing this, she tried thinking to herself, 'he's still got a sword, I should probably get his attention without startling him.' Thinking of what to say, she stood up straight and her knife clinked up against the freezer. This startled the guy causing him to point his sword out toward her. Raising both her hands, she stuttered out, "wait wait... don't hurt me. I'm just trying to find a first aid kit."

The man let out a sigh as he sheathed his sword on his back. Flashing his bright blue eyes at her. She caught a great glimpse of his face as he lowed his hood.

His eyes narrowed to her bloody and torn up hand. His relaxed face quickly changed to concerned as he walked up to the injured girl now holding her mess of a hand. She was panicking a bit as she backed away. "Woah woah, calm down. Let me see your hand."

"Please don't kill me. I got bit by one of those things and the other students were going to kill me. I don't want to die." She wept.

"What are you talking about, are you being serious right now?"

As she looked up at the guy, he rolled up his sleeve showing several different bite marks and scratches. "This is clearly airborne I don't know why you nearly got killed over a simple bite."

Looking down at his arm, she noticed it wasn't infected and grey like a classic zombie film. "So.. I'm okay?" She softly asked.

"Yeah, hey random question. You don't by chance know of Mrs Patrick's do you?"

This sparked her attention as she nodded. "Yes that my chemistry teacher."

"Can I ask if you've seen her ever since this happened?"

Jess remained quiet and looked down at her feet and shook her head.

The man let out a sigh, "that's what I figured it was worth a shot though. That was only reason why I came to the school."

Looking back up at him she looked him up and down. "Are you not a student here?"

"No I graduated last year."

"Oh..."

She couldn't seem to control her face from blushing up a storm. Him noticing her avoiding eye contact, his eyes went to her hand again. "Can I see your hand?" He asked with his hand out.

She didn't turn down the offer as she slowly placed her hand on his. She winced as he touched her finger. Seeing her tear up, he knew her fingers were broken.

"I'm going to patch you up alright?"

She nodded while wiping her tears with her sleeve. "I couldn't find a first aid kit though and the nurses office is baracaded shut."

"That's fine I know a little place that I was going to head to anyway I know that they have better quality first aid kits there. But for now.." He didn't finish his thought until he took off his jacket then his shirt.

Jess's face beet red as her eyes went down to his chest and lightly toned abs. The second he looked at her, she spiked her head off to the side hiding the fact she was staring at his body.

"Here. This is for your hand for now." He said while wrapping his shirt around her hand still being shirtless. She made tiny efforts to take small peaks but blush even more noticing he kept looking up at her. It was obvious she was checking him out. He honestly thought it was funny to be honest. Tying a loose knot of the end of the sleeve, he could already see the blood seeping through the fabric.

"Don't worry they don't seem to be attracted to the smell of blood, thank God. But as long as you have me by your side I assure you that I'll keep you safe." He said. "Come on I want to take you somewhere that I know will help us stay alive."

She didn't hesitate to grab his hand the moment the stepped out of the cafeteria with their masks on and looking several crazies off in the distance. They both let out a shaky sigh as he unsheathed his sword and squeezed her hand tightly. "Be sure to stay behind me but at a safe distance, it's going to get a little messy."
