Chapter 16 - A Fairy’s Kiss??

The door busted open, and Asher's father and Caroline walked in rather clumsy. They were busy in each other's embrace, trying to strip the clothes off each other. Asher, still hidden, slipped out of the room before the door shut.

In the hall, Asher felt a shudder go down his spine. Honestly, he wanted to throw up. He could admit that his father was a verified stud, but his taste was terrible. It was like watching Prince Charming kiss a troll. Anyone could guess how a man like him could end up with that old bat? Asher could see that Caroline was quite beautiful, but his distaste for her made him want nothing to do with her.

Asher held back his gagging as he had to return to his room before anyone realized he was gone. He released his veil so as not to take up any more mana. Asher moved through the halls as quietly as possible without making any noise, and he didn't want to say any longer near the noises coming from the room.

Asher cursed under his breath. He was not able to get the enhancement or the taming magic books. So it would be a while before Asher could practice those. But he did get trout of them, which was enough for now.

First, he had to find out how much the equipment for alchemy and enchanting was. Those two elements would be helpful. If he could master them, he could become a craftsman or merchant and not worry about being a weak noble.

Asher had a spring in his step as he strode through the halls. Things finally were looking up. He was not about to give in to his old self. That person would have crumbled under the weight of everything. It was his new life, and he would live it for as long as he could.

Asher moved through the halls silently. He was alert to anyone around him. But his mind would wander to what feats Asher could pull off. Asher had ideas for equipment and skills and could not wait to try them out for the first time. Asher wanted to get to his room as quickly as possible, and had no more time to waste. He marched on into the dark hallways.

Mirrlock wandered the endless halls. He swore he had seen the figure disappear behind a suit of arms, but when he looked, there was nothing to be found. He slides his hand over the panel expecting it to give to a hidden passage.

But if there was one, he couldn't figure out how to open it. He turned and left. The figure was familiar with the manor, but who was it? They could be some illusionist or spatial mage if they disappear without a trace like that.

Mirr turned on his heels and returned to the party without other leads. After a bit of time, he found himself at a dead end. Mirr was frustrated, and he rushed through the halls and saw another dead end. He continued to do this four more times before admitting he was lost.

Nobles designed their homes to be confusing and complex, especially those nobles called home. Intruders would quickly get lost in the labyrinth of the hallway and doors. But the person that he was falling a while ago didn't seem to have trouble moving around. They knew where they were going, but why were they wandering around. Everyone should be at the party.

His knowledge of the layout of means he is not an outsider. At first, he thought that the individual was a servant, but if he was, he should have seen more of them by now. The elegant and beautiful decor meant he was not in the servant's wing. However, he thought of one thing that would explain why that person had little difficulty.

His mother, the queen, told him a story when he was young. Old places such as ships, castles, and churches can develop living spirits. These were known as fairies. The fairy would watch over the home and the people who lived there. If a person could catch it, it would give the person a kiss that would bless them with luck and protection for the rest of their life.

In Mirr's mind, it made sense. Everyone in the manor was at the party so that no one would be just running around. Mirr loves old legends. But he didn't think that it was real, but it might be true. The fairy might be real. If he could find the fairy, he would get its blessing.

He scoured the hall in search of his fairy. Until he turned a corner, a few feet away stood the hooded figure wandering through the corridor. It was his fairy. He waited till the right moment before lunging out around the corner, charging toward the figure with full force. The hood figure spots the boy before turning and running in the opposite direction.

"Stop," Mirr voice shouted at the figure as he charged towards them. With all his force lurching through the air after the bust, he pressed his foot into the ground. Despite the effort, he could not close the gap between them. They bobbed and weaved through the hallways. The hooded figure leads the way, and Mirr moves right after him.

Every time Mirr would get close enough to grab onto the figure's hood, the figure would jerk in a new direction moving just out of reach. He had no choice. He would have to do something drastic if he wanted to catch the hood figure. He bent down, readying himself for what would happen next. A glowing light formed around his feet, forming a shining circle around his feet. Mirr's eyes glowed with new power. The brilliant light illuminated the darkened corridor.

The light was so bright that the hooded figure turned back to see the flashing light. The figure turns to run away, but once the circle reaches a maximum brilliance, Mirr launches forward at blinding speed closing the gap within a nanosecond. Before the figure could dart into another hallway, Mirr ripped the figure's hood. As the hood flung off the head of the figure, Mirr was met with a stunning sight.

The figure had pale skin that highlighted his sharp yet delicate features. Burning locks fell from the figure's head like waves of fire. Their eyes were like silvery pools that glimmered in the dark. The figure could only be described as beautiful. Mirr could only think that this figure was the definition of beautiful. This had to be a fairy. When he caught it, he could receive a fairy's kiss.

Mirr was so focused on the beautiful fairy. He did not see what the fairy did. He found himself on the floor, bleeding from his nose. The fairy sucker-punched him and ran down into another hallway. Mirr jumped up and ran after him. "Wait." He shouts after the fairy. He was met with an empty hallway and a dead end when he turned the corner. His fairy had disappeared again.
