Chapter 3 - New Life (1)

Asher was born in the Northern most Richt dukedom in Holy Kingdom of Ainzel. It is one of several kingdoms that hold power over the entire continent of Jurre. The Heroloom Empire borders the south and the Democratic Republic of Jura is the east. To the west are the Brenzinan Mountains that runs from the northern sea to the southern sea. Beyond it lies the Demi human nation of Hanzel. And the land farther west is know as the dark continent also know as the Devils Playground.

Asher's head felt dizzy as this information filled his head. To say his life was on east mode might have been a stretch. It was still better than his former life. Only by a little bit. He pulled up his status screen.

His stats were a lot better then when he began his new life. Nine years had pasted rather quickly. As a noble he learn swordplay and how to read. Tomorrow would be his and Jude's 10th birthday, and what waited for them was a miracle. The awakening. The awakening was a ritual that all 10 year old go through to discover there magical affinity. You can not learn high level spells without them.

Any child could learn Basic magic. How to light a candle or make an orb of light was considered basic magic. The magic he would unlock tomorrow was the real shit. Fireballs, summoning lightning, etc. His head swam with ideas of things he could do in this new world.

Asher jumped as a paddle slammed on the desk. He looked up at the governess with a cheeky smile. He knew he was in trouble now. He let himself get distracted.

"Mr. Asher, since you feel no need to pay attention, I assume you have the answer to my question." Ms. Cratz is their governess. She is responsible for teaching and instructing us in our studies as nobles. She is a mean older lady who's hair is always pulled back in a tight bun. Her mouth is drawn and pressed like she is constantly disappointed in the people in front of her. She has a long hooked nose that makes her look like she is always looking down. To Asher, she is the definition of an Old Crow.

"Sorry I didn't hear it ma'am."

Ms. Cratz let out a sigh. She was not mean in the sense of being cruel like some of the teachers in Asher's past life. She was mean because she was demanding. She always tries to bring the best out of her charges. But this one was a new challenge. Asher was a brilliant mind but that mind was often anywhere else. Jude on the other hand sat straight on the other end of the table polity listening to her lesson.

If someone told her these two weren't actually related, she would have believed it. Jude had pale white hair and red eyes. His personality was just as cold as his appearance. He was a proper young gentleman. He was well spoken, polite, and calm. Asher was the opposite. Even in his appearance. His long red hair matched his fiery and wild temperament. Most of the time she could only guess what crazy thing he would do. He had chased away four governess by himself. If she remembered, he set one of them on fire, and another broke her leg. There was a term for children like him. He was a 'demon child'.

"I asked what was the contents for the Treaty of Halburn?"

Asher thought carefully before replying. "It was a treaty between the Empire and Ainzel to not interfere with the trade of each other and the democratic republic. It was made after the 10 year War."

"Correct as usual, Mr. Asher." The way she said it was like she was tired and not at all sincere. "What has your attention today? Not planning releasing another pack of wolves in the halls are you?" There is no telling what Asher would do. He did what ever he wanted.

"No I was just thinking about the ceremony tomorrow." He blushed from the embarrassment of that moment. In his defense, the wolf incident was not on purpose. He tried to feed alone wolf cub, and he soon found to have the entire pack after him.

"Ahh you mean the Awakening. I suppose that it would be hard to focus on anything else." Ms. Cratz glared at the boy. 'The last thing this boy needs is magic.' She became fearful of what the boy might do if given access to some powerful magic.

"Well I suppose we can move on to something more relevant to the time." She cleaned up all the scrolls and books that were scattered on the table. She put them in a box and placed them on a bookshelf in the corner of the room before grabbing another box. When she place it on the table, she pulled out a crystal ball and a glass rod. "These are the devices you will be using during the ceremony. This crystal rod will measure your magic power or how much magic you can use. The crystal ball will unlock which affinities you will have. Why is this important?"

Jude who has been sitting quietly till now replied. "The affinities will determine what magics you can use."

Ms. Cratz smiled. "Yes the elements you awaken to will be the magics that you can use. They will be your magics and it will be your responsibility to train your abilities and master them. Now watch you will do this tomorrow at the cathedral." She held the crystal rod in one hand and closed her eyes. The wand lit up and small rings appeared around the base. "As you can see my magic power is rank C. Magic power is ranked on a scale from G, those with little to no magic power to A those with high levels of magic power. S rank is even higher than A rank but it is rare that you will get that rank on your first try."

Asher noticed this change after his Scan ability reached 30% mastery. People who have gone through the Awakening Ceremony had an extra stat PWR. It was the magic power stat.

"Now watch." Ms. Cratz continued with her demonstration. She placed her hand on the orb and repeated focusing on her magic. The orb lit up with a bunch of colors before fading to only five colorful orbs. Dark blue, tan, red, white and yellow. "As you know, there are a total of 30 possible elements you can awaken. As you can see I am a penta-class mage. This means I have five affinities. They are water, earth, fire, light, and sound. I can only use these elements and no others. As the sons of dukes you two will probably be Omni-class mages. A Omni class mage can use at least 25 individual elements." Ms. Cratz looked out the window and saw the sun sinking low. "I will end the lesson here. Both of you need to rest well tonight for tomorrow."

Both Jude and Asher bowed to their teacher as they walked out. "Jude, isn't it exciting what element do you hope you get? I don't really care what elements I get as long as they are good ones. I am so…."

"Do you ever shut up?" Jude snapped at Asher. "You are next in line to take Dad's title can you act like it for once in your life. Or is everything a joke to you?" Jude turned on his heel and walked away leaving Asher alone.

Jude has always been jealous of his older twin. Not only does he get all the attention and praise, but he acts like there is no consequences for his actions. He acts like he doesn't even care about anything. And he is next in line to become the Duke just because he is older. Jude was a hundred time more qualified than him. It was unfair that the only reason he gets overlooked was that he 10 minutes older. He stormed into his room and slammed the door. He was left alone in his dark room full of anger and spite. He would not let his brother show him up tomorrow. Then his father would see that Jude is the one who deserves the title.
