Engel couldn't explain it, but something always seemed to overcome him whenever he shared a space with Nevaeh, heard her voice or took in her heavenly scent.
He loses his will and succumbs to her, just as he has been doing for thousands of years.
He wanted nothing but to be away from her till he figured out a way out of all the issues surrounding them, till he figured out how to protect her and keep her safe.
Because being around Nevaeh only stirred up selfishness in him — selfishness to possess her and have her shackled to his side while he damns the consequences and dangers accompanying it.
Staying away from her might not do anything, but he was willing to try anything, yet there he was, completely lost in the warmth of her mouth and selfishly drawing the maddening sweetness of her lips.
