Nevaeh drew her eyes to a squint when bright rays of blinding light assaulted her face. She slowly turned her face to the side to evade it, and she felt the softness of what she believed to be a pillow under her head.
Slowly, she fluttered her eyes open and took in her hazy surrounding.
The familiar scent of earth and mint told her she was in a familiar place, and the blurry silhouette before her was none other than her husband.
"Engel?" She listlessly called, her voice sounding hoarse and scratchy. She blinked to focus her eyes, and when it did, he came into full view. He stood at the foot of the bed, his hand buried deep in his pants pocket as he blankly stared at her.
She tried to sit up, but her movement, despite how slow, sent a throbbing pain to her head. She winced at the pain and raised her hand to support her head which seemed like it was too heavy to sit on her neck.
