Lucas "Grandpa! What is an aura bond?"
Rowan "Hmm! To say it in simple terms, a very special bond between a trainer and his pokémon. To make you better understand, there are two very special forces present in every living being. And among these forces, one of them is called Aura which is the life force of the Pokémon and is used to power moves like Thunderbolt, or any other move. Pokémon not only use aura in their moves but also in other aspects. Another is the psychic energy that uses the power of the mind and soul. Psychic or ghost type attacks use this energy in combination with aura to give us the long list of Pokémon moves.
While not much study has been done on psychic energy, development in the aura is a little bit more accomplished. You have seen pokeballs right, they have a hidden mechanism that connects both the aura of the trainer and their pokémon. This enhances the strength of both trainers and Pokémon. This is called an aura bond. In ancient times, people didn't need to use Pokeball to form aura bonds, but today people have lost their innate ability of forming aura bonds, pokeballs has enabled everyone to form aura bonds. Your aunt Julia was an elite trainer with six elite rank Pokémon, hence definitely she had formed strong bonds with her pokémon. And her being defeated one-sidedly means the trainer was a legend rank one. You can learn about aura bonds through mouth, you need to feel it, one day you will know."
Dawn "But even then that old lady is only a legend rank trainer. She is not a champion trainer."
Johanna "Dear, you make it sound super easy but believe me, it's not. Those who start their journey top of them end up as an ace trainer, and among those who persist 1 out of 1000 make into an elite trainer. Legend ranked trainers are even above them as they are those who are top of a generation of trainers in a region. Well, the champion is not a trainer ranking, but the position held by the strongest trainer in a region. They are the trainers with absolute strength and are like rulers in a region."
While Johanna was explaining the ranking of trainers, one could see a child-like gleam in her eyes when she explained the champion. Well, it is true as every champion is held to high respect borderline fanaticism in their own region.
Haden "Sir, It seems Rei is already here and searching for us, let me fetch him."
Professor Rowan seeing his daughter-in-law and Julia busy in their chitchat, he decided he will go along Haden and while he was at it, ask about his pupil Sycamore.
Rowan "I will also go with you. Tell me along the way how Sycamore is doing and the research on that thing has come along."
Haden "Sure, sir."
Haden and Rowan walk further away and began discussing the research papers on a special evolution. While they were away both of the ladies began talking about various topics from new fashion in Kalos and Sinnoh to the burning down of an entire police station back in Kalos.
Dawn "Mom, can we go play now."
Johanna "Sure, also take Adya with you but stay within our eyes reach."
Dawn & Lucas "OK, mom."
Dawn and Lucas then pulled Adya with them who was quiet during the entire journey.
Dawn "I am Dawn Oak and this is my brother Lucas. We both are four years old. You are?"
Adya "I am Adya Gaman and have just turned four years old."
Dawn "Do you like Pokémon?"
Lucas "Of course, who would hate one."
Lucas was very excited for today due to a special gift he and his sister would receive from his grandfather.
Lucas "Are you going to choose one of the regional starters of your region or any other specific Pokémon."
Adya "If I can get good marks in the regional exam, I will opt for Froakie. He will be the key water type Pokémon in my party."
Lucas "I have not seen it, so I don't know much about it, but I will always go for Sinnoh's favourite, Chimchar."
Dawn "I will also opt for Sinnoh's favourite, that is Piplup. I like it because it is cute and has a prideful nature. But Empoleon is a beast in his own right. No one can challenge its pride and walk away."
Lucas "Well, what Empoleon can do I bet Infernape can do it better."
Dawn "Your fire monkey can defeat my Piplup in his dreams."
Lucas "Oh! As if your fat penguin can even reach my Chimchar's speed."
Adya "Stop your bickering, you need to study hard because you will need a reasonable high score to get one of the three starters."
Lucas & Dawn "But our Grandpa is a professor, and we also have our grand-uncle Professor Oak."
Lucas "Even then how hard will it be for the top three in a city."
Dawn "It is hard to get the top three, but Grandpa said he will give us our starter today before he leaves for Kanto region."
Adya "WHA!!!"
Adya 'Well my dad is a junior professor if I ask, maybe he can, but I am not sure if he will do it. I am already glad that he let me keep the egg. Possibly later after the egg has hatched. During pre-school I can officially own four Pokémon. I have already filled my first spot with that egg. It's not like it will be a dragon or something. If it is oh no! Let's not think about it. As for Froakie, I am confident that I can nail one of the top three position in Shalour city just I have to wait till ten.'
Lucas "Dad said he will bring our starters today and I will show you how cool Chimchar is."
Dawn "Well Adya, you will see how cute Piplup is."
Adya "Sure."
It is common knowledge that when a kid turns 10, he will have to appear in the Regional Aptitude Test that will decide his or her future. While Adya, Lucas and Dawn are only partially aware, they have great luck being related to one of the professors that work under the Pokémon league. Haden Gaman is a junior professor who works directly for Head professor Sycamore under Kalos Pokémon League. Rowan Oak is the head professor under Sinnoh Pokémon League as well as his son, Rei Oak who is also a junior professor.
The level of pre-school decides the quality of Pokémon you get during the tenure. So, rich kids or those with connections always go to a high quality pre-school. Rich schools can afford to give rare Pokémon or specially breed Pokémon. While any other ordinary person has to pass the pre-school with only one Pokémon and that is also in most cases being common normal, bug or flying type Pokémon. Most have to spend money or directly catch his or her second Pokémon onwards since pre-schools would only give a compulsory first Pokémon.
While Dawn and Lucas were telling Adya how their starter was better than the other, some passer-by fool had provoked a fleet of Spearow, and they were headed towards the picnic spot.
