"Is Desmond, okay?" Jonathan asked the nurse, sat on a chair in the medical room, with plastic whiteboards on walls all over the room, with computers and desks at one side and cupboards and a bed on the other. "He'll be okay, he just needs a full days rest and recovery for that kind of bruise." The nurse replied. "Will he be okay for guests then?" Jonathan asked knowing full well who was the next to visit him.
There was silence in the room until the nurse replied. "Yeah, he's okay enough for guests to come to see him," Jonathan exited the room, entering a hallway that was similarly designed like the hallway where both Desmond and Jake had caused a big scene, although there were two doors at either end of the hallway.
As he stood there, he nodded towards a girl leaning on the wall, Samantha who had just met Desmond and ran over to the scene after it had escalated too far. As she enters the room, she approaches the nurse who was busy filling out a form. "Hi, I'm Samantha, may I go visit him then?" As she asked sweetly, the nurse swerved in her chair, taking one look at her. "Yeah, you can go see him, he's in Room 204,"
As Samantha walked down the corridor with doors that had names on them; Room 199, Room 200, Room 201, Room 202, Room 203 and finally Room 204. As Samantha stood outside the room and in front of the door, she gulped, grasping the doorknob and opening the door. "Hey, Sam," Desmond wheezed from where he was kicked in the chest repeatedly. His chest had bandages on it, his arm was wrapped in bandages from Jake losing his grip on him and hitting the marble, stone floor.
As Samantha stood there in front of Desmond, she was shocked to see him wrapped in bandages. Her hand was covering her mouth as it was widened in the horror of Desmond having bandages in places that weren't affected by the ensuing scene. "Des... You look. Bad. Hell, you even sound bad." As Samantha walked around and sat down on the chair next to Desmond, resting her hand on both arms of the chair.
Lifting her left hand, touching his forehead where he had knocked himself after landing hard on the floor. She was able to see a small bruise on it with a small purple hue to it. "Des," Samantha said sternly. "I know. I know, I'll have to stay here and recover." Desmond said as if he had thought of what she could've said. "No, that's not what I wanted to say, Desmond," Samantha explained, as her hand slid onto his right hand. Desmond knew he was blushing, but couldn't hide it. "I. I didn't think he would do that." Desmond said as he sat up, glancing at her with a stern but serious look.
"I." Desmond sighed. "I was bullied when I was younger, but given that my father was a police officer, he would allow those kids to get off on a warning. Nothing else. I wanted him to stop those kids, but no." With every word that Desmond said, Samantha stared at him with a blank face. As Desmond continued to stare at her, a sensation arose from him, before continuing. "But, regardless of how many times my father gave them a warning, the bullying would continue. I got more bruises, until..." Desmond stopped and started to breathe out of control, with every break in between shortening. "Desmond, you okay?" Samantha asked him, placing her hand on his shoulder.
As Desmond continued rapidly breathing, it was apparent that he was not okay. "Crap," Samantha said, before running over to the door, opening and running down towards the nurse. "Miss! Desmond's breathing!" Within minutes, she jumped out of her chair and darted straight to the room. "Whoa," Samantha muttered in amazement. Running back to the room, she saw the nurse giving him a drink, while she waited for him to drink, she saw and walked past Samantha. "Thanks for telling me. Promise me that you won't be long?" As Samantha looked at her with an open mouth, in shock. Snapping herself out of the trance, she replied. "Yeah, won't be long now."
Turning around to lock eyes with Desmond, she stood at the end of the bed, still locked eyes with Desmonds. "You were bullied when you were younger?" Samantha asked, feeling worried, but also resentment for him not telling her when he was first introduced. "Yeah. I was, it's one of many reasons why I don't trust people easily" Desmond said, although the tone in his voice went somber.
"Okay, there's something else. What is it?" Samantha asked as she sat on the end of the bed, keeping her eyes locked with his, although breaking away every so often. Desmond let out a big sigh, glancing at Samantha. "My father... He was killed." Upon saying those words, Desmond turned his head around, breaking the glance. "Oh. Your mother?" Samantha asked once more, moving her right hand further towards his left. "She, uh. Looked at me and thought that I would do better if I was at my uncle's. We never made it there. A car hit ours at a crossroads and... My mum didn't make it."
"Desmond. That means you're a-" Samantha said before Desmond cut in confirming her suspicions. "Yes. I'm an orphan. Happy?" Desmond said with more agitation on "happy?". "I'm sorry. Remember there are others out there who have gone through the same thing as you," Samantha said, as she continued she noticed that Desmond was no longer smiling nor serious instead he was "crying?" As Samantha opened her mouth to say what she had on her mind, she disclosed that thought and moved up more so that she can hug him.
"Desmond, if you're looking for someone to support you, I'm always here." As Desmond locked eyes with her again, he was able to tell that his vision was slowly blackening out, sleepiness had gotten the better of him. Before long, he closed his eyes to succumb to the darkness. As Samantha slid off the bed and started to leave, she couldn't help fight the urge to walk back over to his side and plant a pec on his cheek. Samantha then whispered in his ear. "A little something for my prince" Before walking out of the little room and closing the door behind her.
