Chapter 17 - Battle of Titans

Asher quickly removed his axes from the straps on his back and turned to face Alanna.

Alanna pulled a White Walker dagger from the sheathe on her wrist and a White Walker longsword from the sheathe on her hip.

She then charged at Asher much like an angered bull.

Asher deftly moved to the side as she passed, completely dodging the strike of both weapons.

Yet it appeared Alanna had expected this as she turned and stabbed toward Asher's midsection as he deftly jumped backward. The blade narrowly missing contacting his flesh.

On and on they went, each blow narrowly missing Asher. Each strike further enraging Alanna.

Yet Asher remained on the defensive. Not once did he strike.

As the hours went on, Alanna could be seen visibly tiring.

As such she began to act more rashly, slashing out like a wild beast.

As her energy declined, she made a decision, that she feared she would regret.

Alanna invoked the power of Sermiptoli. The goddess of the White Walkers to give her increased energy and speed.

Sermiptoli approved Alanna's request, and Alanna entered a berserk state.

Alanna's increased speed caught Asher completely off guard. Her first strike gashed his left arm clean to the bone.

Had Asher not moved his arm inward and dove backward, it would likely have removed it completely.

To the onlookers it mattered not, as once the blade made contact Asher's fate had been sealed.

Yet Alanna continued to strike like a madwoman.

In her berserk state, she did not notice that Asher's blood boiled and hissed upon the floor.

She also did not notice, that the wound that should have been festering and spreading throughout his body had already begun to heal.

To everyone's surprise, the White Walker weapons had no effect on Asher.

Seeing Alanna's frenzied state, Asher now had no choice but to fight back.

He struck out with the axe in his right hand.

As he made contact with Alanna's sword, his axe connected with such immense strength that the sword flew backward, slicing cleanly through Alanna's own armor and biting into the flesh of her shoulder.

When the blade made contact, all present realized it was already to late for Alanna as a sickening smell of rancid meat began to emit itself from her shoulder.

Alanna, realizing this would be the end of her began to speak. As she spoke, she used the ring on her finger to project it to the entirety of the White Walkers.

"This midnight beast is far to strong to exist in our world. He and all of his kind must be slain immediately. This is my last decree as Grandmaster."

Her voice grew fainter with each word until she collapsed upon the ground. The light from her eyes quickly dimming.

Hearing her decree, the Silent Legion members moved undetected behind the White Walkers in the arena. Assassinating them without a single sound.

Dmitri spoke swiftly.

"Asher with Alanna's decree even the Silent Legion will be forced to act. The midnight beasts will be slain on sight.

You will all be hunted by the entirety of the Drew.

You must flee, and you must take the midnight beasts with you.

I will delay them as best I can.

None will know of Adamant Holds affiliation with you, though Neve will not be able to head House Mizzryr now. It must be another.

Who do you recommend?"

Asher responded with equal concern as he moved placed the corpses of each White Walker in his pack.

"Neve, you must have someone from your old city that can head House Mizzryr. Inform Pharod and he will relay your message to Dmitri.

Flint, I relieve you of your commitment. You're a King, stay with your people.

Dmitri contact Pharod. While I know we can not trust him, he will be virtually penniless now that he can not utilize the midnight beasts even in the arena.

I will allow him to begin setting things up for me within House Mizzryr."

Dmitri bowed before Asher as he and the others of the Silent Legion disappeared into the shadows.

To the surprise of all present, Flint was the next to speak.

"Ye saved me and me clansmen. I stand by me vow. Me son Duran will take over me duties as King. I will stand by ye side."

With that said, Flint quickly left the arena, moving toward the dwarves that resided within Adamant Hold.

Neve and Asher moved into the city quickly and gathered those that had been within the slave quarters with them.

Once the situation had been explained, the orcs, drew, and midnight beasts gladly vowed to join Asher.

Flint quickly rejoined the others, though clearly missing his crown and in the company of several other dwarves.

The newly assembled group moved toward the carts that contained Nadra's inheritance and Nadra used her ring to teleport them and the inheritance to her tower, one creature at a time.

While this movement took several hours, it was completed long before anyone arrived to investigate the disappearance of Asher and his group.

Once all had arrived at the tower of Skammlauss, they had no choice but to explore their surroundings and attempt to find a way to create homes for everyone.

As they had all originally lived underground, they began their exploration from the paths leading under the tower.

To this end, Flint and the other dwarves began using their affinity with the ground and stone to find a suitable location.

They journeyed for several days before they happened upon an area rich with minerals of all sorts.

This greatly pleased Flint.

The machinery present within the tunnels however, rather displeased him.

He ran back to Asher as quickly as he could and reported his findings.

Asher returned with Fitz to examine the machinery.

When they arrived, Fitz was elated. The machinery all appeared to be in working order, though it was covered in vast swathes of dust.

Clearly no one had used this place in hundreds if not thousands of years.

For Flint, that settled it. This would be the place they made their homes.

Fitz agreed, as he further examined the machinery.

He hoped to manage to get it all running, as he found himself truly curious of how it would work.

Asher alone felt trepidation.

He wandered alone to the upper levels of the mine.

As he wandered, he found a large brown door adorned with steel that lead into a room made entirely of stone.

This connected to vast hallways.

Asher continued to traverse the massive building. Many of the items he came across were unfamiliar.

The brown material that the doors were composed of were used throughout many of the things he could see.

What could this material be? It appeared to be the same thing the buckets had been made from.

Where did it come from?

Where was he?

And more importantly what creatures resided within this grand structure?

Clearly it was inhabited, as once he entered the rooms above, the dust had ceased to cover everything.

With this thought in mind, Asher continued to move throughout the grand structure. Ever vigilant of what or who he may find.
