Tears trickled down Scarlett's cheeks, the pain intensifying within her. First, she tried to wriggle out of the vampire's grip despite being pinned on the tree, but as the seconds passed, she could feel her body weakening with every drop of blood that was sucked out of her, every ounce of energy driven out of her system.
She saw the trees duplicating, then merging back into one, her sight getting hazy.
When she thought she was about to lose it right there and then, a fast whiff of wind was blown past her, and the next instant the vampire was lying in front of her at some distance on the ground.
The girl dropped to her knees, her mind stirred up, an indescribable pain banging on the walls of her head. When she looked up, her eyes rested on the dark silhouette of someone she could not quite recognize as the vision was still blurred.
