Chapter 23 - Flashback

Some hours back when Edric walked out of the cemetery, never for once it had flashed in his mind that he would be giving the necklace to someone else in the coming hours. Unexpected, life had always been.

A few hours ago

"I still don't get why you gave me this. You understand me well. Despite knowing that I don't do commitments, you asked me to give it to someone who would deserve it. How could I know who deserves this when I don't look into the hearts and eyes but bodies?", Edric was crouched down on the side of the headstone of his mother. The pendant was clasped in his right hand that was rolled into a fist.

The necklace belonged to his late mother. When she was breathing her last, she handed it to her son and asked him to give it to a person he would care about the most from the bottoms of his heart.

His mother had known about the his personal sex life that wasn't really personal. She always hoped Edric to find someone he would truly cherish and love. She only wanted him to get into a healthy, optimistic relationship. He couldn't always spend his nights with random girls in the bed.

Holding onto all those hopes, she put the necklace on his palm. It had been almost two years since his mother passed away and Edric still hadn't found someone worthy to wear the heart. Every girl he was surrounded with looked the same to him. Whenever he would come to the cemetery, he would bring the necklace with him and tell his mother that he still had it. Today was just like one of those days.

"If I'm being honest, I don't think someone will ever wear this, mom", when his mindset was invariant for all the girls, he conceivably wouldn't expect someone coming down from the up above to wear it.

Certain beliefs and sentiments towards something particular were quite tough to change at times but if an effort with plausible reasoning was to be put into the matter, even mountains could be lifted. Regardless, no girl appeared good enough to him. They were fine for sex and that was all. Love? He was offered to be loved many times, he just never felt any of them be the one his mother could've mentioned.

"I'll come again", he walked out, foreseeing the next visit with the necklace in his hand. As the sun had started setting, a reminder that he should be in the place he would always be, he drove straight there, the club.

When the professor told him her name, he understood what his mom meant when she said 'deserving'. He didn't know the girl long enough to say if she deserved it or not but she certainly was the one. Bright red, just like the heart.

"From now on, this is yours", he stepped back and glanced at the heart. It looked as if the necklace was made for her.

"Mine?", to say that the professor was surprised was definitely not close to her state. The hot boy just put a necklace around her neck! Was she dreaming!! Well, she had preferred a kiss but this glorious and elegant jewelry item was lots of better than the kiss she also didn't know if she would feel anything about.

"I can take it back if you don't like it", he was thinking about how to explain the situation he was in if the girl asked him why he gave it to her. He was certainly not going to say that he just felt that it belonged to her.

"No! I love it!!", clutching the heart in her hands, the professor sloped back her upper body a little, her feet anchored in the same place. It was indeed beautiful. She didn't care why he was giving it to her, as long as she would get to keep it.

"My friend must be sick worried for me. We should head back", Edric nodded. If he was being honest, he didn't want to leave, not this early. He felt...good there. The club had always been jammed with people, not to mention the intoxicating smell of drinks and loud music. Here, instead of being surrounded by those skinny, sweaty bodies, he was encircled by different beautiful flowers. In contrast to the smell of alcohol, there was a refreshing fragrance.

In the moonlight, two hearts beating under the same portion of the sky, holding different destines started walking towards the same place. After some minutes of walking through the streets in silence when they reached the place, Edric told the girl that she could as he had to leave for somewhere else.

She thanked him for the necklace and walked inside to the upstairs. How poor of the girl to think that her friend would be searching for her everywhere. Seeing him this moment, it looked like he never got to lay on a couch at home. Being laid on one of the couches the-world-knew-for-how-long, his hands gripping on the hair of Alex, their mouths moving in sync. Scarlett wished she wouldn't rush it to come back.
