Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Waking up was just as hard as the two previous days, if not harder since it's 6 o'clock.

Voranis: Why are we awake at this ungodly hour?

Lorelei: We have to go early to prepare.

Voranis: Go where?

"It doesn't really bother me waking up early but I've been curious since yesterday."

Lorelei: Today is Sunday so we'll go to the Volunteer Center. Now go get ready because we're leaving in 20 minutes.

"What are we volunteering for?"

I took a quick shower and used the items Lorelei got for me.

"Who knew Terrans had to brush their teeth?"

I gathered some of my hair at the back of my head with a clip and let the others down.

(The hairstyle is the same as Hitomi from Code Breaker)

Entering the kitchen, I found Cynthia drinking coffee.

Voranis: Good morning Cynthia! When did you arrive?

Cynthia: Good morning! I've been here since before you woke up.

She winked.

Cynthia: I really like your hairstyle today.

She flashed a smile and I responded in kind.

Voranis: Thank you!

Lorelei: Alright, are you both ready? Good! Voranis, be a dear and help us carry the heavy stuff please.

Voranis: Leave it to me!

The city had a different feel in the early morning. Lot's of people were up and about, some were inside cars while a lot of them were inside big rectangular vehicles.

Our destination was the ground floor of a big building that was next to a small park. The name of the volunteer center was 'Seraph's Horn'. Some people were already there carrying different kinds of things.

?: Lorelei! Cynthia! It's so good to see you once again!

A thin old man with pink t-shirt and light blue trousers greeted the women with a smile.

Cynthia: Good morning mr. Garen!

Lorelei: Garen! How are you? I didn't see you last week.

Garen: Yeah, I came up with something and was in bed with fever.

Lorelei: That's terrible...Oh I almost forgot! This is Voranis, Voranis this is Garen, the organizer of this center.

Voranis: It's nice to meet you sir.

I said with a nod since my hands were not available for a handshake.

Garen: Likewise young man, please, come inside.

Lorelei and Garen started walking inside while being in their own little world.

Cynthia patted my back and showed me where to leave the big box I've been carrying from the house.

I didn't really know what to do to help here besides carrying heavy stuff but that kind of help was gladly welcomed.

Cynthia also explained what this place is and what we're doing. Basically, every Sunday volunteers bring food or clothes and they distribute them to the homeless and poor. You are not required to bring something since every kind of help is welcomed.

Close to noon, the preparations were finished and people started coming in.

Seeing the people of the center taking time off their day to volunteer and even bring supplies with a smile on their faces gave me a warm feeling inside.

It's thanks to them, that the homeless and poor know that no matter what happened, they could always rely on these people, these heroes, to have a warm meal and clothing.

"It's strange how a race with the potential to be so selfless and supportive can have the capacity to commit monstrous acts."

While these thoughts were were swirling around in my mind, I felt a warm hand on my back.

Cynthia: Are you ok? You were just standing there.

Voranis: I...am happy for this.

We smiled at each other and stood there.

Cynthia: You know Voranis, you have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen.

I tilted my head to the side just a bit.

Voranis: Isn't it odd to have heterochromatic eyes?

She giggled.

Cynthia: It is rare but it's not odd at all. It's unique. Especially a coloration such as yours.

I felt something in my stomach.

"I hope I'm not sick or something, I've heard It's not pleasant."

Cynthia: Oh right, I still owe you a smoothie! How about we go after we fini-

Voranis: Yes!!

I surged with energy at the mention of smoothies and interrupted her without thinking.

"I get to taste that amazing drink once again! Oh!"

I realized that was rude and lowered my head and apologized.

Cynthia started laughing. I found it pleasant but couldn't understand why.

She gasped a bit for air and when she was done laughing she turned to me.

Cynthia: You've had this serious air around you the whole time since I met you and I can't believe it just took a smoothie to break that.

Voranis: I...um...guess you're right.

"Though I AM stranded in this place far from home with currently no way back but she doesn't know that. She must've wanted me to relax."

Later in the day, we finished cleaning the center and left. Lorelei and Cynthia were talking about things I didn't understand and when I asked them, they both said 'women stuff'. I didn't know what that meant either but chose to not ask.

After arriving home we informed Lorelei that we'll go for smoothies and she gave Cynthia a strange look to which she shrugged.

"I'm getting the feeling that female Terrans are a different, more complex specie than males."

We spent the whole time talking about different things which was very informative.

I also learned that she's studying to become a Museum Conservator which was a fine and noble endeavor.

I wanted to also share some stuff about me since it seemed that was the custom but I couldn't say much since I 'didn't have' my memories. Though I did say my favorite color was red.

Once we left the establishment, we didn't go back right away. We wandered around the city and she showed me different places like museums, the library, the Metropolis University which was a school for higher education and a few other places.

It was a very enjoyable evening, something I sorely needed to get my mind off things.

It ended when we went to a station of sorts where rectangular vehicles would come and go on top of tracks.

I offered to escort her home since it was getting dark but she said it was fine until the 'metro station'.

I waved as she left and then began walking back.

Voranis: Guess tomorrow I'll pay a visit to the library.
