Chereads / DC: Twilight Templar / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Cynthia was a woman with long brown hair that curled a bit at the end. Her eyes were a mix of yellow and brown and were filled with energy. A noticable feature was that her skin was very smooth unlike most people I've seen since arriving here. It rivalled the woman in blue who could fly.

Cynthia: It's nice to meet you Voranis.

She approached and offered me her hand.

"I know this gesture!!"

Feeling excited by my knowledge, I stood up and accepted the handshake.

Voranis: The pleasure is all mine lady Cynthia.

Cynthia: L-lady Cynthia?

She stuttered a bit, apparently not sure how to continue.

Lorelei chuckled and put a hand on Cynthia's shoulder.

Lorelei: You don't have to be surprised, Voranis is a very polite young man.

With introductions out of the way, she offered this coffee beverage to Cynthia and we all took a seat around the table.

Cynthia: So Voranis, what brings you here?

I gave her the story I had fabricated and even Lorelei pitched in.

"This lying... doesn't help my feelings one bit, but it is necessary."

Cynthia: I understand. Then, after we get groceries we should go to a police station and file a report. Perhaps someone is already looking for you.

Lorelei: Great idea Cynthia! We should quickly finish with shopping so you can go there as soon as possible.

Before I could even utter a word, everything has already been decided.

"I don't really want any information about me to be filed by the authorities since I don't know much about this planet besides what I saw on the laptop and what Lorelei told me. Still, I have to do it to solidify my story."

Voranis: If that can help then I see no reason not to. I appreciate your help lady Cynthia.

Cynthia: P-please, just call me Cynthia, it's really embarrassing to be called a lady with a straight face.

She put her hands up and shook them left and right.

Voranis: As you wish. So Cynthia, you came to help miss Lorelei with the groceries?

Cynthia: Ah yes! Tomorrow is Sunday and we need to prepare!

Voranis: Prepare? Will something happen tomorrow?

Lorelei: You'll see tomorrow. If we're lucky, we might even find someone who's seen you before.

We finished our coffee and left the house. On our way we passed quite a lot of people who greeted Lorelei and Cynthia.

"They sure are popular."

A few minutes later we arrived at our destination. The place of origin for the so called groceries. The shopkeeper welcomed us with a smile and Lorelei went to talk to him, leaving me with Cynthia.

Cynthia: Do you remember how old are you Voranis?

I shook my head and she smiled.

Cynthia: You look young so my guess early twenties. You might even be 24 like me. Ah! Though you shouldn't ask a woman about her age.

Voranis: Huh? Why is that?

I got genuinely confused. Back home, age most of the time signifies experience. Selendis was pretty proud of her age saying that it was proof she had survived and won many battles against her foes.

Cynthia: It is considered rude. Not to mention most women are sensitive about their age.

Voranis: Thank you for enlightening me Cynthia.

Cynthia: Don't mention it!

We made some smalltalk while the shopkeeper kept going back and forth with a list in his hands.

Finally after a few minutes, we left the shop with a lot of bags. Lorelei and Cynthia held one in each hand and I got everything else. It wasn't the least bit tiring to carry them but the volume made it a little inconvenient to walk with.

Nevertheless, we arrived home and left Lorelei to organize things while we made our way to the closest police station.

Inside the station, I noticed that while some officers were not exactly....fit, it shouldn't hinder their job. Most of them were very polite when we talked to them to ask for directions.

We entered a small office on the second floor. A man with black hair that wore small round glasses greeted us.

Officer: Good morning, how can I help you?

Cynthia: We want to check if there's a missing person report with the name Voranis.

I let her handle the man as I took a look around the office. There were a few posters with pictures of people and underneath the word 'missing'.

There were quite a few of them and even a few children were among them.

While deep in thought, I felt a tap on my shoulder.

Cynthia: Let's go, if anyone looks for you they will contact Lorelei and me.

She flashed a smile that was strangely soothing.

We left the station and she took me to an establishment where we ordered something called smoothies.

I took a sip through a cylinder called straw and instantly loved the taste.

Voranis: This is most delicious! The owner of this establishment must be very proud.

She giggled in a very pleasing way and took a sip of her drink.

Cynthia: Of course! This place has the best smoothies in the city.

She paused for a few seconds.

Cynthia: So Voranis...you don't remember anything about where you came from? The way you speak is very unusual. Ah! Don't get me wrong, I don't mean it in a bad way.

Voranis: I can't say I do. At least nothing as of yet.

Cynthia: Do you want to hear what I think?

She asked with a grin to which I smiled and nodded.

My acceptance seemed to make her happy and she sat straight.

Cynthia: So, you either come from an old fashioned family or nobility.

"She's not wrong since my father is the Hierarch of the Daelaam and my mother is the Matriarch of the Nerazim."

Cynthia: You either worked out or did martial arts. Your body isn't too bulky but it's pretty toned. Not to mention what Lorelei said about helping her.

"Ok, that wasn't too hard to guess but now that she mentioned it, why is my body strong and toned? I haven't exercised one bit since coming here."

Cynthia: And finally you were probably pretty sheltered. I've read somewhere that even if the mind forgets, the tongue and taste buds do not. The look of excitement you had when you tried the smoothie was pretty cute. It was probably the first time you tried one. And let's be real, which normal person hasn't tried smoothies at least once in this day and age? Well, except those that have...oh no!

The excitement and happiness on her face were replaced by fear and panic as she paled.

Cynthia: Please tell me you're not allergic to milk, fruits or something!

I got a bit worried myself.

Voranis: I...I don't know what this means?

I answered her meekly.

Cynthia: How are you feeling right now? Is your stomach ok? Do you feel itchy anywhere?

Worry was evident in her voice but it was unfounded since I was feeling fine.

Voranis: Don't worry, I'm fine.

Cynthia: That's good but we should quickly get you tested for allergies!

Voranis: What? Now?

Cynthia: Yes now, this is important! Don't worry, I'll pay for it.

Voranis: But we haven't finished our drinks.

Cynthia: Don't mind it, I promise you we will come again.

She gave me a look that made her eyes look bigger and more vulnerable. For some reason I couldn't say no when she looked at me like that.

With a sigh, I got up and we went to a medical facility for the test. It was pretty quick and after 30 minutes of waiting, the results came back negative.

Feeling relief that I can eat and drink whatever i wanted, since this was the only perk in the situation I'm in, we returned to Lorelei's house.

Cynthia stayed for one more hour as we talked and the left saying she'll be back again tomorrow.
