Chereads / White Wives And White Wolves / Chapter 5 - Present Day

Chapter 5 - Present Day

The wedding was a stunning affair, a memorable celebration of Tony and Abbie's union. Following the ceremony, Tony moved Abbie into the cozy cottage, a new chapter in their lives. However, their decision to marry at such a young age, compounded by the fact that they belonged to different racial backgrounds, brought about a wave of scrutiny and judgment from both their families.

Tony's family, who were of African-American descent, had reservations about the union, and this disapproval led to the families severing all contact with the young couple. The challenges they faced were not only due to their age but also rooted in the racial differences that society struggled to accept.

🌸

A distant white family member named Jonas, who was connected to Tony's family through marriage, approached his parents with a request for financial assistance to repurchase the cottage. Jonas had originally married Tony's aunt, Shaniqua, primarily for her wealth. In his appeal, Jonas asked for a sum of $500, which Tony's parents reluctantly provided.

Subsequently, Jonas divorced Shaniqua after embezzling her funds, a crime for which she had him arrested. Upon his release, Jonas resorted to exploiting another black woman named Denise for financial gain.

🌸

Jonas held prejudiced views against black individuals and frequently subjected his wife, Denise, Tony's aunt from his mother's side to mistreatment. These abusive circumstances ultimately led to their divorce, jeopardizing the ownership of the cottage that Tony's family had to battle to regain and repurchase from Jonas.

🌸

Shaniqua, Tony's paternal aunt, along with her daughter Tequila, taunted Tony relentlessly for his marriage to a white woman, Abbie, and the impending arrival of their mixed-race child. Tony's parents also partook in the mockery directed at Abbie. Meanwhile, Abbie's parents derided her for her marriage to a black man and the news of her pregnancy.

After Tony and his wife moved in together, Abbie became the target of cruel mockery and discrimination. She faced ridicule for her country accent and her race. Both black and white individuals expressed prejudice against her for her relationship with a black man. Abbie endured hurtful comments and insults that questioned her intelligence, and appearance, and labeled her as a country "barbarian," all stemming from harmful stereotypes and biases.

🌸

Some of Abbie's country neighbors were generally kind-hearted, yet they held traditional values that led them to disapprove of her pregnancy outside of wedlock. While they were mostly friendly, she knew that she needed to make things right before they could fully accept her. On the other hand, she faced hostility and mistreatment from some white city-dwellers and a handful of judgmental country residents in her area, with some even engaging in confrontations.

🌸

Most of the black women in their community offered some level of assistance, even if they weren't entirely pleased with Abbie's situation. Although a small number were hurtful and taunting, the majority tried to help. The residents, in general, were often mocking and unsupportive.

Abbie yearned to escape the harsh environment, but their finances were stretched thin as they saved up for the baby's arrival. Tony suggested that she stay indoors with him and enjoy video games like "Detroit: Become Human," "Humans Are People, Too," "Smiles in The Champions," and more as a way to pass the time and find solace in each other's company.
