Chereads / Hearts as One / Chapter 2 - The Witch’s Familiar

Chapter 2 - The Witch’s Familiar

(Open POV)

Planet surface…

Clara is hanging upside down with a rope around her ankles, spinning. Missy is sharpening a stick with a knife.

"Consider the Doctor. The Doctor, trapped. The Doctor, alone. You all right there, dear?" Missy asked.

"Where are we? How did we…?" Clara asked.

"Shh, now. Mummy's talking. Okay, I'm going to tell you a story of the Doctor. It's classic. On the run, no Tardis. No friends, no help. No hints from a certain fanboy born in another universe. In other words, the Doctor, happy. It was a long time ago." Missy said, telling her tale, and she thinks about a brief black and white glimpse of a figure in a long scarf ducking behind a stone column. "Doesn't matter which face he was wearing, they're all the Doctor to me. So let's give it to the eyebrows."

The hero of her story is now the current Doctor.

"But the Daleks…" Clara said, sadly.

"Yes, I'm coming to that." Missy said.

"Shouldn't we be, um? I don't want to say dead."

"Hush! He's travelling by teleporter. Like how Jared will gain the ghost power of teleportation. His Semblance did evolve to have teleportation at one point in time, before he got his ghost powers. Unfortunately, the Doctor's teleporter is out of power. Also unfortunate, he's being stalked by, oh, say about fifty android assassins? I may be rounding up." Missy said, checking her sharpened stick. "Ow. Fifty invisible, indestructible android assassins, all exclusively programmed to kill him."

"Why are you sharpening that stick?" Clara asked.

"Well, I've no idea how long we're going to be stuck out here. Might have to go hunting." Missy said.

"So why am I tied up?"

"In case there's nothing to hunt." Missy said, winking, before going back to the flashes of black and white Doctor being shot at by lasers and backing down a big stone staircase. "The Doctor, then. Surrounded. Outnumbered. Outgunned. And freeze. Nanoseconds to live. Four, I'd say, being generous. Now, my question is this. How did the Doctor survive?" She prods Clara. "Oh, come on, Clara! You know him. Consider the Doctor. Like you would consider Jared."

Clara's mind's eye sees the Doctor looking at her.

"Where did the Doctor get that teleport thingy?" Clara asked.

"Oh, good, good. The Doctor stole one from an android." Missy said.

"So, I'm guessing he uses the same energy as the android weapons, right?"

"Excellent! Not seeing you as sandwiches now."

"Okay, then. The Doctor uses the energy wave from the android weapons to recharge the teleport bracelet and at the exact moment he's supposed to disintegrate…" Clara said, while the Doctor raises his hands over his head, pointing the sonic screwdriver at the teleporter - just like Jared would do to escape bad situations- to absorb the laser energy and the Time Lord teleports. "He actually teleports. Hang on, that's how you did it. That's what Jared usually does with his ghost powers, without using his vortex manipulator. That's how we escaped the Daleks."

"I modified the same principle for our vortex manipulators like Jared does with his ghost powers, yes. Blew them off, I'm afraid. But the Doctor, he, he improvised it. And Jared improvises it since he plans ahead. The Doctor must have got through several thousand calculations in the time it takes to fire up a disintegrator. Seriously, what swots!" Missy said, angrily.

"So the androids think he's dead and the Doctor escapes." Clara said.

The Doctor falls down a hole.

"No, he's the Doctor. He fell into a nest of vampire monkeys. And if it's Jared, he would fall into a nest full of Grimm." Missy said, happily.

The green eyes of the screeching monkeys glow in the light of the screwdriver. And the red eyes of Grimm glow when Jared took out his phone to use its flashlight feature.

"But those are two other stories!" Missy said, letting Clara down very suddenly.

"Oh!" Clara said, pulling herself off the ground.

"Why does the Doctor and Jared alway survive?"

"Because they're clever."

"Yes, but there's lots of clever dead people. I love killing clever clogs, they make the best faces." Missy said, smiling.

"Because they always assume they're going to win. They always know there's a way to survive. They just have to go and find it." Clara said.

"Yes, except this time, the Doctor made a will and Jared left Team RWBY behind in Remnant and the two threw themselves a goodbye party. Now, if the Doctor and Jared assume they're going to die, what happens then?"

"We do."

"They're trapped at the heart of the Dalek empire. They're prisoners of the creatures who hate them most in the universe. Between us and them is everything the deadliest race in all of history can throw at us. We, on the other hand, have a pointy stick. How do we start?"

"We assume we're going to win."

"Oh. Pity, really. I was actually quite peckish." Missy said, starting to walk off across the desert.

"Can I have a stick too?" Clara asked.

"Make your own stick."

Davros' room…

"It took me so very long to realise it was the both of you, standing at the gates of my beginning. And here you and Jared are at the end." Davros said.

The Doctor is hunting for something, anything, and finds it on a table of spare parts. Electrical shocks are coming out of Jared's body, with an angry look on his face.

"But this time, I have you two at my mercy. Exterminate." Davros said.

The Doctor holds a Dalek gun to the back of Davros' head then takes it away again.

"Ancient. Inoperable." Davros said.

The gun fails to fire.

"Genius." The Doctor said.

"Asshole." Jared said, taking out a coin out of his pocket and tossed it in the air.

"Jared, you would threaten a dying man with a Railgun? Have I not suffered enough?" Davros asked, looking at Jared.

"Get out of your chair." Jared said, catching the coin and placing it back inside his pocket.

"I cannot leave this chamber. It sustains me."

"Get the hell out of your chair!" Jared yelled.

Control room…

Alarms sound.

"Alert! Alert! The infirmary is breached." A Dalek said.

"Protect Davros. Davros must be assisted." Dalek Supreme said.

A red dot is moving on a schematic of the building on the wall screen.

"Davros is leaving the infirmary." A Dalek said.

"Davros must remain. Davros cannot leave." Dalek Supreme said.

"My children! Help me!" Davros said, over the speaker.

"You must return to the infirmary."

"The Doctor and Jared are escaping. Find them. Find the Doctor and Jared."

"Find the Doctor and the Storyteller! Seek, locate, destroy!"

Daleks go flying out over Skaro.

Corridors…

"Seek, locate, destroy. Seek, locate." The Daleks said.

"Exterminate the Doctor and the Storyteller!" The Battle Dalek said, angrily.

Planet surface…

"Exterminate the Doctor and the Storyteller! Exterminate!" The Daleks said, nearby.

"What's happening?" Clara asked.

"What do you think?" Missy asked.

"They're in the middle of that?"

"Ah, that's what we need."

Control room…

"Assist me!" Davros cried, over the speaker.

"Davros approaches." A Dalek said.

"Admit Davros. Admit the creator." Dalek Supreme said.

"Help me!" Davros yelled, over the speaker.

"Assist Davros. Assist." Dalek Supreme said.

A Dalek sees Davros lying on the floor of his room. The control room doors to admit the Doctor in Davros' chair with Jared snacking on some jelly babies.

"Admit it. You've all had this exact nightmare." The Doctor said, smirking.

Davros' room…

Davros has no body below the waist.

"Get me Sarff!" Davros said, worried.

"I am here." Colony Sarff said, entering the room.

Control room…

"So, anyone for dodgems?" The Doctor asked.

"Oh! I'm up for bumper cars!" Jared said, excitedly. "They're one of my favorite things at amusement parks and state fairs."

"Exterminate!" Dalek Supreme yelled.

"Exterminate! Exterminate!" The Daleks cried.

They all fire at the Doctor and Jared. White out.

Cave…

Looking down a hole in the ground.

"Daleks have sewers?" Clara asked.

"With one significant difference." Missy said.

"Being?"

"They're ever so slightly alive."

"They're what?" Clara asked.

"How much of a drop would you say that is? Can you see the bottom?" Missy asked.

"Too dark. Er, we could chuck a stone down, or something."

"Oh yeah, good idea." Missy said, pushing Clara down the hole.

"Oh!" Clara said, screaming with a thud.

"Twenty feet."

Control room…

The Doctor takes a sip from a white teacup with gold trim. Jared is snacking on jelly babies, enjoying the show.

"Of course, the real question is, where did I get the cup of tea and where did Jared get his jelly babies?" The Doctor asked.

"Here's the answer." Jared said, tossing a yellow jelly baby into his mouth. "I'm Jared Shay. And he's the Doctor. Daleks, just accept we're the main characters, have plot armor, and can do anything."

"Doctor, you and the Storyteller are unharmed." Dalek Supreme said.

"Proposition. Davros is an insane, paranoid genius who has survived among several billion trigger-happy mini-tanks for centuries." The Doctor said.

"Oh. This is the conclusion we've reached, Daleks." Jared said, now munching on a blackcurrant jelly baby. "We're definitely keeping Davros' chair. It looks so cool."

"You cannot escape, Doctor, Jared." Dalek Supreme said, looking between the Doctor and Jared.

The Doctor holds up the Dalek gun, "I'm guessing his personal forcefield only works in one direction."

"The Doctor does not use weapons. Only Jared uses weapons."

"Doesn't he? Ah, listen to your little hearts beat!" The Doctor yelled.

Sewers…

Clara starts to sit up, "Ah."

"Hello." Missy said, as Clara grabs the pointed stick. "Oh, poppet. Do you really think you could?"

"First chance I get." Clara said.

"You won't survive down here on your own."

"You won't survive turning your back."

"Ooo. How exciting." Missy said, turning her back on Clara. Nothing happens. "God, you're dull." She spins round and grabs the stick back. "In future, if you're going to take my stick, do me the courtesy of actually killing me. Teamwork is all about respect."

"We're not a team." Clara said, sadly.

"Of course we are. Every miner needs a canary. Now, hush, look around. Bit of a mess, isn't it?" Missy asked.

"You said it was a sewer."

"Daleks don't generate much in the way of waste."

"So what is it all, then?" Clara asked.

"Decaying Daleks. Daleks can't die. Genetically hard-wired to keep on living, whatever happens. Well. But they still age, poor loves. Over time, the body breaks down, rots, liquefies. Interestingly, the Dalek word for sewer is the same as their word for graveyard." Missy said, stabbing a piece of organic material and it reacts.

The walls are covered in screaming bits of Dalek.

Control room….

"Come on, Dalek Supreme. Why not ask us what we want?" Jared asked, munching on some jelly babies.

"Irrelevant. You and the Doctor will not prevail. The two of you will not succeed." Dalek Supreme said.

"We've been at the heart of your empire for forty two minutes, and we own it, and I haven't even got out of my chair. Jared hasn't gone through that whole box of jelly babies. Ask us what we want." The Doctor said.

"What do you want?"

"Clara Oswald." The Doctor said, broadcasting across the planet. They can even hear him in the sewers. "We want Clara Oswald, safe, alive, and returned to us immediately. You bring her back. You do that. You do that now. Unharmed. Unhurt. Alive."

"Your associate…" Dalek Supreme said.

"We saw what happened. We were there. And we're hoping, for all of our sakes, that it was a trick." The Doctor said.

"It was not a deception."

"Because if Clara Oswald is really dead, then you'd better be very, very careful how you tell us."

Sewers…

"Listen to that. The Doctor without hope. Jared is without hope too, judging by him not doing the message broadcast." Missy said, her eyes widening.

"Who's going to tell us?" The Doctor asked, his voice over the speaker.

Control room…

"So, who's gonna go first?" Jared asked, tossing a jelly baby into his mouth.

Sewers…

"Jared finally speaks. Nobody is safe now." Missy said.

"All the power Davros had is ours." The Doctor said, his voice over the speaker.

Control room…

"Everything he had, Jared and I have." The Doctor said, smirking.

Sewers…

"Who's going to tell us that Clara Oswald is really dead?" The Doctor asked, his voice over the speaker.

"If Clara's really dead, I should know." Jared said, his voice over the speaker.

"They'll burn everything. Us too." Missy said, sadly.

Control room…

"Clara Oswald is not alive." Dalek Supreme said.

"Doctor, Jared, this urge for conquest. It is gratifying to see the two of you learn." Davros said, on screen.

"Davros. You're up. Sorry, this seat's taken." The Doctor said.

"Taken by Doctor Disco." Jared said, happily.

"Indeed. But not by you both." Davros said, on screen.

Snakes seize and hold the Doctor and Jared, covering them completely.

"You two have met my Head of Personal Security, I think. Colony Sarff. His agents are everywhere." Davros said, on screen.

Davros' room…

"Are you ready?" Davros asked.

"Of course." Colony Sarff said.

"Be subtle, Colony Sarff. Tonight, we entrap a Time Lord and a Nexus Being."

Sarff uncoils.

Sewers…

"What is that? A lift?" Clara asked, looking at a door at the end of the sewer.

"What? Never mind the lift. See that thing on the wall?" Missy asked, looking at a metal circle with a blue dot in the middle, standing proud of the rock.

"What about it?"

"Take a look."

"What is it?"

"Closer."

"What am I even looking for?"

"Nothing. I'm giving it a good look at you."

"Intruder alert! Intruder alert!" A Dalek said, over the speaker.

Alarms sound. Missy grabs Clara.

"Why the hell did you do that?" Clara asked.

"Ever ring a doorbell and run away?" Missy asked.

"Humanoid detected in lower level." The Dalek said, over the speaker.

Missy handcuffs Clara to the wall camera unit, "Not this time."

"Dalek to Lower Level Thirteen."

"What the hell did you do that for?" Clara asked.

"We need to trap and kill a Dalek. You're the bait, I'm the hook." Missy said, removing the cameo brooch from her blouse neck. "Dark star alloy. Goes through armour plating like a knife through people."

"Missy. Missy. Missy, uncuff me now!" Clara cried.

"It's pretty, though, isn't it? Got it in the olden days on Gallifrey. The Doctor gave it to me when my daughter…" Missy said, while the lift arrives. "Keep it talking. We need to draw it out of the lift."

"You can't kill a Dalek with a brooch."

Missy hides near the lift, "Yes, you can. Yes, you can."

"Humanoid detected. Remain still. Do not move. Scan in progress. Humanoid unauthorised in restricted area." The Dalek said, trundling up to Clara. "Sterilisation proceeding."

"Hey, you! Guess what? I just put a hole in you." Missy said, pricking the Dalek's 'globes' and steam comes out. "And another and another. And another!"

"What are you doing?" Clara asked.

"Murdering a Dalek. I'm a Time Lady, it's our golf." Missy said, smirking.

"Damage levels insignificant." The Dalek said.

"Oh, really? I think you're forgetting you're surrounded by a bunch of very old, very angry Daleks."

The decaying Daleks screech.

"You just got yourself a puncture in a bad neighbourhood." Missy said, switching to an American accent. "Meet the locals? All blind and squelchy and out of their tiny minds, but they can still smell! Nobody hates like a Dalek. Here they come! I think they want to steal your motor."

"Emergency! Emergency! My vision is impaired." The Dalek said.

Viscous fluid seeps into the Dalek then out of its grill.

"Exterminate! Exterminate!" The Dalek said, angrily.

"Oh, here comes the older generation!" Missy said, as the Dalek fires at tentacles coming from the walls. The Time Lady uncuffs Clara and they run off. "These young folks today are so tetchy!"

"Emergency! Emergency!"

Explosion.

"Wheeeeeee!" Missy said, excitedly.

Battleground…

The smoke clears to reveal the boy surrounded by hand mines.

"Help me! You and your friend can't leave me. You promised. You both did! You said I could survive. You said you and your friend would help me. Help me!" Young Davros cried.

Davros' room…

The Doctor and Jared wake to see Davros reintegrated with his chair.

"Doctor, Jared. I hope you are grateful. It wasn't easy to procure. And very nearly unique, of course. The two of you should feel privileged. The only other chairs on Skaro." Davros said.

The Doctor and Jared look round to see they are sitting on ordinary metal frame chairs.

"Prefer a gaming chair." Jared said, sadly.

"Don't get up." Davros said.

"You neither." The Doctor said, crossing to the door.

"The chamber is sealed, and Doctor, I believe you are not carrying your sonic device." Davros said.

"I gave it up. Bad memories."

"Bad memories associated with you, Davros." Jared said, looking at the cables briefly, before looking away.

"I am dying, Doctor, Jared." Davros said, looking between the Doctor and Jared.

"Gah, you keep on saying that. Yet, you keep on not dying."

"Jared's right. Can you give it some welly? Come on." The Doctor said, annoyed.

"And it is time for us to conclude our business together." Davros said.

"We have no business." The Doctor said.

An extra golden loop of cable closes its eyes with a soft hiss.

"We have nothing but. Look again at the cables, Doctor, Jared. Understand what they are. What they can do. Just step a little closer." Davros said.

Sewers…

Missy opens the lid of the Dalek and scoops out the remains of the mutant Kaled within it, "Get in."

Davros' room…

"They don't have much respect for you, do they? Your kids. Have you seen the state of this place? I mean, this is exactly where you dump a smelly old uncle slash family pet slash genius scientist who couldn't even invent legs. Seriously, how do your boys take it when everybody else has got two eyes?" The Doctor asked, examining the 'life support' unit.

"You know what it is, of course." Davros said.

"Oh, yes. It's a hyperspace relay, with some kind of a genetic component." The Doctor said.

"I am connected to the life force of every Dalek on this planet. It is what has kept me alive. As their hearts beat, so does mine."

"Ooo. Nice. Vampiring off your own creations, just to eke out your days. I'm surprised the Daleks allow it."

"Oh, they have no choice. My Daleks are afflicted with a genetic defect."

"A genetic defect? What kind of defect?" Jared asked, looking down at the floor.

"Respect. Mercy for their father. Design flaws I was unable to eliminate. And now he sees it. Now he understands. The cables, Doctor, Jared. Touch them. Imagine, to hold in your hand the heartbeat of every Dalek on Skaro. They send me life. Is it beyond the wit of a Time Lord and the wit of a Nexus Being to send them death? A little work and it could be done." Davros said, looking between the Doctor and Jared.

"Um, why are you telling us this?"

"Genocide in a moment. Such slaughter, not in self-defence. Not as a simple act of war. Genocide as a choice. Are you ready, Doctor, Jared? So many backs with a single knife." Davros said.

The Doctor backs away a little towards Jared, but Davros takes their hands and guides them towards the cables again.

"Are the two of you ready to be gods?" Davros asked, while the Doctor and Jared reach but do not touch. "Why do you hesitate? No one would know. Clara Oswald is dead. Team RWBY is on Remnant. Are these the consciences of the Doctor and Jared, or their shames? The shame that brought you both here."

"There's no such thing as the Doctor. I'm just a bloke in a box, telling stories." The Doctor said, scoffing.

"And there's no such thing as the Black Pearl and the Storyteller. I'm just a fanboy, getting excited over the things I like." Jared said, happily. "We didn't come here because we're ashamed."

"Jared's right.  A bit of shame never hurt anyone. We came because you're sick and you asked. And because sometimes, on a good day, if we try very hard, I'm not some old Time Lord who ran away and Jared's not some crazy fan obsessed over me. I'm the Doctor."

"And I'm Jared Shay. Someone that tried to be better because of the Doctor."

"Compassion then." Davros said, sadly.

"Yup." Jared said, clutching the strap of his sling bag.

"Always." The Doctor said.

"It grows strong and fierce in the two of you, like a cancer." Davros said.

"We hope so."

"It will kill you both in the end."

"We know." Jared said, smiling.

"We wouldn't die of anything else." The Doctor said.

"Doctor, you and Jared may rely on it." Davros said.

Sewers…

Clara is inside the Dalek casing, which has its front panels open. Missy is attaching electrodes to her head.

"How am I supposed to make it go? Are there pedals?" Clara asked.

"Telepathic control. Open wide." Missy said, while Clara opens her mouth wide. "I meant your skull. Never mind."

Beeep! as the electrodes penetrate Clara's skull.

"Ow!" Clara said, angrily.

"Shh, shh, now, don't worry." Missy said.

"Ow."

"There's loads of nano-tech repairing any damage as the feed goes in."

"What about when it comes out?"

"No idea. Nobody knows. Anyway, to control the unit, you just have to think. Novel idea for you, but let's try it. Move forwards."

"I don't know how to…" Clara said, gasping as the Dalek moves forwards.

"You see?" Missy asked.

"Oh! How did I do that?"

"Circle right."

"I can't…" Clara said, circling right.

"Circle left. There you go. All right, this won't hurt a bit." Missy said, touching a control and the Dalek casing starts to close up around Clara.

"Hang on. No, Missy. No, no, no, no! No, Missy. Missy, no, no, no, please don't! Don't, don't, please!"

Clang!

"Are you okay?" Missy asked.

Inside the Dalek…

"Fine, I think." Clara said.

Sewers…

"Fine, I think." The Dalek said.

"Okay." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"Okay. That's a bit weird." Clara Dalek said.

"Just a bit. Okay. All right. Shh. Say your name." Missy said.

"Why?" Clara Dalek asked.

"Just just say. Just say it."

"Clara." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"Dalek." Clara Dalek said.

"Say it again." Missy said.

"Clara Oswald." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"Dalek. Dalek." Clara Dalek said.

"One more time." Missy said.

"I am Clara Oswald! I'm Clara Oswald!" Clara said, in the Dalek.

 "I am a Dalek! I am a Dalek! I am a Dalek! I am a Dalek!" Clara Dalek yelled.

As Missy laughs, the gun fires.

"Whoa! Just don't get emotional. Emotion fires the gun. Okay?" Missy asked.

"I don't understand." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"I do not understand." Clara Dalek said.

"Say I love you. Those exact words. Don't ask me why, just say it." Missy said.

"I love you." Clara said, in the Dalek.

 "Exterminate." Clara Dalek said.

Missy laughs, "Say, you are different from me."

"You are different from me." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"Exterminate! Exterminate!" Clara Dalek said.

 "Say, 'Ex-ter-min-ate!'" Missy said, excitedly.

"Exterminate." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"Exterminate!" Clara Dalek said.

Missy laughs, then dodges about as Clara spins the Dalek, firing its gun.

"Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!" Clara Dalek said.

"Cybermen suppress emotion. Daleks channel it through a gun. That's why they keep yelling exterminate. It's how they reload. So, let's go and kill them. Come on." Missy said.

Davros' room…

"There is a question, Doctor. One I have longed to ask." Davros said.

"Yeah, well, if you're going to put your hand on my knee, it isn't going to go well." The Doctor said.

"Why did you leave Gallifrey?"

"Well, because I did."

"You stole the Tardis, and ran and ran. Why?"

"It's a boring place, Gallifrey. I was going out of my mind."

"Yet you long to return."

"Ah, well, I'm inconsistent."

"But it is always the same lie."

"What lie?"

"You weren't bored. No one runs the way you have run for so small a reason." Davros said.

"I do." The Doctor said.

"No, you don't, Doctor. And Jared, there is a question for you too. One I have longed to ask."

"If you have something to say. Say it." Jared said, crossing his arms.

"Why did you not bother to go back home? To your Earth?"

"Because I saw a crack in time that looked so much like the one from Doctor Who in my bedroom wall." Jared said, clutching the strap of his sling bag.

"You got sucked into the crack and ended up here in this universe. You have the ability to go back home but choose not to. Why?"

"Home's been boring for a while. And I love to travel. Plus it's hard to get over the deaths of a loved one and a pet."

"Yet you also long to return to go home like the Doctor, the man you look up to."

"Well, I don't know what I want. I am childlike after all."

"You also have the same lie like the Doctor does."

"What lie?"

"You weren't bored of home either. You choose not to go home because you'll be faced with the reality of your situation. You've been wanting to get on with your life in the real world. But choose to escape it."

"I do. Because I'm scared, Davros. I'm always scared."

"I know." Davros said, frowning. Doctor, Colony Sarff confiscated these items on your arrival."

Davros goes to a box on a small table.

"A Time Lord confession dial, I believe. Your confession. Tell me. Send me to my grave with this precious knowledge. What is the Doctor's confession?" Davros asked, reaching for the dial.

"Shut up!" Jared said, angrily. "Don't touch it!"

"Don't you dare!" The Doctor yelled.

"Is it possible I have touched a nerve?" Davros asked.

"Some things matter to us, Davros. Not many, but a few. And you don't put your fingers anywhere near them." The Doctor said, retrieving his sunglasses from the box. "And they'd better not be scratched. These are my best ones."

"You're lucky you're unable to get access to my bag." Jared said, happily. "It has everything I love and care about in there."

"Still the two of you play the fools." Davros said, looking between the Doctor and Jared.

The Doctor dons his shades, "Well, by now that should make you nervous."

Corridor…

"Halt! Report." A Dalek said.

Missy raises her hands.

"Humanoid intrud…" Clara said, in the Dalek.

"Humanoid intruder found on lower levels." Clara Dalek said.

"Why has the intruder not been exterminated? Explain. Explain. Explain!" The Dalek cried.

"I'm a prisoner of special significance. Count the hearts." Missy said, smugly.

"You are a Time Lord?"

"Time Lady, thank you. Some of us can afford the upgrade. Is it still the same old Supreme Dalek these days? I fought him once on the slopes of the Never Vault. Tell him the bitch is back."

Davros' room…

The Doctor is apparently gazing at his reflection in a wall screen. Jared is snacking on some chocolate chip cookies.

"Make your confession, Doctor. We'll get to your confession, Jared. Doctor, why did you really leave Gallifrey?" Davros asked.

"How long has it been, the three of us?" The Doctor asked.

"Long enough. Galaxies have burned."

"And now you ask us personal questions?"

"Doctor, you have slaughtered billions of my children, as I have slaughtered billions of your race. And Jared, you have slaughtered thousands of your race in a parallel world. We have exhausted the conventional means of communication." Davros said, letting out a sigh.

The Doctor removes his sunglasses, "My people are alive. They didn't die. I brought them back. I found a way."

"Is this true?"

"It is true." Jared said, smiling. "I was there."

"Jared's right. He was there when I brought back the Time Lords. Gallifrey is back in the sky. I don't know where, I may never know. Jared knows, but he won't tell me. Because it's spoilers. But Gallifrey is back and it is safe from the three of us." The Doctor said.

"Doctor, my most sincere congratulations." Davros said.

"I'm sorry?"

"This is wonderful news. Beyond all hope. I congratulate you."

"Why are you saying that?"

"And Jared, your face. I heard a friend of yours sent out a message. A message of hope and the people listened. And they heard." Davros said. "They went to the place you and your friends ended up. This is also wonderful news. It is also beyond all hope. I congratulate you too." Davros said.

"Ruby Rose, my Little Red sent out that message across all of Remnant. Not me." Jared said, looking down at the floor.

"Yet you still follow her. You follow Team RWBY all this time. Because you believe in them. And you love them." Davros said. "Men should have a race, a people, an allegiance. Men should belong, Doctor, Jared. Believe me, please. I am happy for both of you. So happy."

"I don't, I don't understand this. Why are you…" The Doctor said, speechless.

"Come closer again. You and Jared. Let me see your faces." Davros said.

"Nope." Jared said, tossing a chocolate chip cookie into his mouth.

"You've seen it often enough." The Doctor said.

"Let me see it again with my own eyes." Davros said, as the blue light in his forehead goes out. The Doctor and Jared lean forward as Davros opens his rheumy eyes. "Closer, please."

Their eyes meet.

"Doctor, if you have redeemed the Time Lords from the fire, do not lose them again. And Jared, if you have redeemed the people of Remnant from the fire, do not lose them again. The two of you, take the darkest path into the deepest hell, but protect your own as I have sought to protect mine. Did I do right, Doctor, Jared? Tell me." Davros said, putting one hand on the Doctor's and his other hand on Jared's. "Was I right? I need to know before the end. Am I a good man?"

"What?" Jared asked.

"You really are dying, aren't you?" The Doctor asked.

"Both of you. Look at me. Did either of you doubt it?" Davros asked, looking between the Doctor and Jared.

"Yeah." Jared said, sadly.

"Yes." The Doctor said, frowning.

"Then we have established one thing only." Davros said.

"What?"

"What's up?" Jared asked.

"Doctor, you are not a good doctor. And Jared, you are not a good hero." Davros said.

The three of them chuckle, then Davros struggles to breathe.

"Pity. I had hoped to see the sun one last time with the eyes of my true self." Davros said.

Control room…

"Oh, hello! Look at you all, with your nice, shiny domes. Oh, I am loving this." Missy said, looking at the Dalek Supreme. "You're my secret favourite. Don't tell the others."

Missy sits on the Dalek Supreme's dais.

"You are an enemy of the Daleks." The Dalek Supreme said.

"Yes, well, anyone who's not a Dalek is an enemy of the Daleks, so that was an easy guess." Missy said.

"You will be exterminated."

"Please, please do, because I have been on my feet all day." Missy said, standing again. "But before you get all exterminate-y, two things. One, I want to see Davros. Two, I have a lovely little gift for you all, if you take me to him right now."

"We do not negotiate." The Dalek Supreme said.

"Clara Oswald. I brought you complete control of the Doctor and Jared, gift-wrapped. Better. Canned." Missy said, smirking.

Clara is speechless.

Davros' room…

Davros is by the window, looking out, "It is beautiful, my world, is it not?"

"How did you get it back?" The Doctor asked.

"The Daleks remade it. Like you, Doctor, and like you, Jared, they have a strong concept of home." Davros said.

"No, like you. Everything you are, they are."

"The last time the Daleks were like that, we were on the Dalek Crucible." Jared said, and he is plugging Davros back into the life support cables.

"Like the three of us, perhaps. How far we have come to go home again." Davros said.

"We're trying to pep this up, but you've been going a long time. Every Dalek on Skaro isn't enough any more." The Doctor said.

"It is so good of you both to help me." Davros said.

"We're not helping you, Davros. We don't even like you." Jared said, sadly.

"Yes. We're helping a little boy we abandoned on a battlefield. We think we owe him a sunrise." The Doctor said, while the sun is edging above a mountain range.

"Come on, Davros. We don't have all day. Lift up your chin."

Davros moans.

"Any minute now." The Doctor said.

"I have always admired you and Jared, Doctor." Davros said.

"Here comes the sunrise." Jared said, laughing a lot.

"I wish, just once, the three of us had been on the same side." Davros said.

"Look, the sun's coming up. We're on the same side now." The Doctor said.

"I regret I cannot open my eyes." Davros said, crying.

Davros is crying.

"Okay, don't ever tell anyone that I did this." The Doctor said, waving his hand around until a golden glow forms. "A little bit of regeneration energy. Probably cost me an arm or a leg somewhere down the line. Or I'll just be really little."

"And don't tell anyone I did this." Jared said, changing his form from human to ghost. He lifted his hand until electricity came out. "A bit of ghost energy. Linked up to my Aura from Remnant. Also part of my life force."

The Doctor and Jared stand in the middle of the cables where Davros used to be. Davros chuckles to himself as the Doctor takes hold of a cable with his glowing hand and Jared hold of another cable with his glowing hand.

"Should be enough, just to…" The Doctor said, screaming as snakes bind his hands to the cables.

"Shit!" Jared cried, screaming as snakes also bind his hand to the cables.

"Hold them firm, Colony Sarff. They are precious to us now." Davros said.

The Doctor and Jared are on their knees with pain as regeneration energy and ghost energy flows through the cables to Davros.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Jared asked.

"Regeneration energy. The ancient magic of the Time Lords. And ghost energy. The ancient magic of the Ghost Zone. I thought I would have to tear you both apart to take them from the two of you but, as always, your compassion is your downfall." Davros said, his voice getting stronger through this.

"No! No! No, please! No!" The Doctor said, worried.

"Stop it!" Jared said, terrified. "Please!"

"Doctor, you have opened your veins of your own free will, and all Daleks shall drink the blood of Gallifrey. And Jared, you have opened your veins of your own free will, and all Daleks shall drink the blood of a Nexus Being. They shall rise stronger than ever." Davros said.

The Doctor and Jared scream as wizened Davros fills out and straightens up in his chair..

Control room…

Clara is listening open-mouthed inside the Dalek casing.

"Where is Clara Oswald? You will tell us! You will tell us! You will tell us…" Dalek Supreme said.

Missy is dancing in rhythm to the Dalek's speech when suddenly they all stop, sink plungers and weapons pointing towards the floor.

"I'm sorry. Was I, er, was I boring you?" Missy asked, as golden regeneration energy and green ghost energy starts to rise from the Daleks. "No. No, no, no, no, Doctor, Jared. What have you done?"

"What's happening?" Clara asked, in the Dalek.

"What is happening?" Clara Dalek asked.

"I have to find the Doctor and Jared." Missy said.

"No!" Clara cried.

"Exterminate!" Clara Dalek said.

"No!"

"Exterminate!"

"Please, you can't just leave me here. Please!" Clara said, following Missy out of the room.

Davros' room…

"There was a prophecy, Doctor, on your own world." Davros said.

"Please you must, you must stop this. You must stop this!" The Doctor said, terrified.

"It spoke of a hybrid creature. Two great warrior races forced together to create a warrior greater than either. Is that what you ran from, Doctor? Your part in the coming of the hybrid? Half Dalek, half Time Lord?" Davros asked, looking between the Doctor and Jared. "Or is that what you ran from, Jared? Is this your part in the coming of the hybrid? Half human, half ghost?"

Corridor…

Missy encounters a motionless Dalek, "Give me your gun!"

Missy wrenches it from the Dalek and shoots the lock to Davros' room.

Davros' room…

"Stop!" The Doctor said, worried.

"Please!" Jared said, looking down at the floor.

The Doctor and Jared screams. Missy runs in and starts shooting with the Dalek gun. Finally she destroys the cables and kills Colony Sarff, who falls to the floor. The Doctor and Jared collapse.

Control room…

The Daleks reboot after their upgrade.

"We are renewed. We are more powerful. The experiment has succeeded. All praise Davros." Dalek Supreme said.

"All praise Davros! All praise Davros!" The Daleks said, at the same time.

Davros' room…

Missy slaps the Doctor awake, she then slaps Jared awake.

"Morning." Missy said, happily.

"Morning, Missy. Hey. Where's Clara? Where's my Impossible Girl?" Jared asked, clutching the strap of his sling bag.

"Oh, hello to you, too, Jared."

"Missy, you're alive, so she is too. Where is she?" The Doctor asked.

"Are you okay?" Jared asked, looking at Missy.

"I'm fine, thanks for asking." Missy said, annoyed.

"Oh, you are not fine. Thanks to you, Doctor, Jared, my creations shall grow to yet greater supremacy, and my own life is prolonged. This is the final defeat of the Time Lords. Have you nothing to say, Doctor, Jared?" Davros asked.

"Three." The Doctor said, retrieving his confession dial and putting it in his pocket.

"Do you understand what has happened? Hear my children sing." Davros said.

"Two."

"Oh, I know those faces." Missy said, in awe.

"All praise Davros, creator and saviour of the Daleks." Davros said.

"One." The Doctor said, smirking.

"It's showtime, Spaceman." Jared said, laughing a lot.

The city shakes.

"What is that? What's happening?" Davros asked.

Control room…

"We are under attack. Explain! Explain!" Dalek Supreme said, angrily.

Davros' room…

"Jared and I knew exactly what you were doing, and we let you do it. You transmitted regeneration energy and ghost energy into every Dalek on this planet. Every single one." The Doctor said.

"Regeneration energy and ectoplasm." Jared said, tossing a chocolate chip cookie into his mouth. "Those two different energies mixed together. Who knows what could happen?"

"Doctor, what have you and Jared done?" Davros asked.

"One word. Er, no, two words, actually. First word, moron." The Doctor said, and Missy sniggers. "Second word, sewers."

Control room…

The floor cracks.

"Emergency! What is happening? Power is fluctuating!" The Dalek said, terrified.

(Jared's POV)

Davros' room…

"No. This cannot be correct. How can this be?" Davros asked.

"Generations of Daleks just woke up very cross, and they are coming up the pipes. Or to put it another way, bye!" The Doctor said, leaving.

"See ya! Don't wanna be ya!" I cheered, running behind the Doctor.

"Doctor, Jared, you must help me." Davros said, sadly.

"Can I just say, it's been an absolute pleasure to finally meet you?" Missy asked, giving a little curtsey and holds out her hand, then pokes Davros in his blue eye. It hurts. Then she runs out. "Doctor! Jared!"

Control room…

The city is falling apart.

"Gross." I said, touching the viscous yuk oozing from cracks in the walls and out of ventilation grills in a corridor. "More disgusting than ectoplasm."

The chief Daleks have the stuff going in and coming out of them while the Dalek Supreme spins on its dais.

"My vision is impaired. I cannot see." A Dalek said.

"Alert. I cannot control." Dalek Supreme said, spinning.

Corridor…

The Doctor and I encounter an unaffected Dalek approaching from a side corridor.

 "Doctor! Storyteller!" Clara Dalek cried.

"This city is about to be sucked into the ground. Your own sewer is about to consume you. There's no way you can win, there is nothing you can do, so just tell us, where is Clara Oswald?" The Doctor asked.

"I am a Dalek."

"Yes, you're a Dalek. Where is Clara?"

"I am a Dalek."

"Yes, we know that you're a Dalek. Where is Clara Oswald?" The Doctor asked.

The Dalek stops in front of the Doctor and I.

"It's me, I'm right here! It's me, I'm in here! It's Clara!" Clara said, in the Dalek.

"I am a Dalek! I am a Dalek!" Clara Dalek said, angrily.

Missy runs up with the Dalek gun and points it at the Dalek, "Doctor, stop! It's you, isn't it? I mean, no offence, you all look alike, but it is, it is you?"

"Yes, it's me, it's me. I'm right here." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"Affirmative." Clara Dalek said.

"Clara's dead, Doctor, Jared. This is the one that killed her." Missy said.

"Clara's not dead." I said, frowning. "I'd know if she was. I would feel it."

"But she really is dead, Jared. I'm sorry."

"Do not listen to her. I am a Dalek, I am a Dalek." Clara Dalek said.

"I got her out of the city, but this one caught us and shot her down. There was nothing I could do, I'm afraid." Missy said.

"I am a Dalek."

"She ran. She screamed. I'm so glad the two of you didn't have to see that."

"I am a Dalek. I am a Dalek."

"This one's a mad one, isn't it? I mean, it's almost like, like it's proud." Missy said.

"I am a Dalek. I am a Dalek. I am a Dalek!" Clara Dalek yelled.

Missy moves behind the Doctor and I and puts the gun in the Time Lord's hand, "Kill it, Doctor. They're all going to die anyway. Indulge yourself. Go on, kill the Dalek."

"Do not kill me! Do not kill me!" Clara Dalek cried.

The Doctor points the gun at the Dalek, "Is Clara dead?"

"No! Doctor, no! I'm not dead, I'm in here! Can you and Jared hear me?" Clara asked, in the Dalek.

"I am a Dalek. I am alive." Clara Dalek said.

"I'm your friend. I'm Jared's friend. I'm your friend! I'm Jared's friend!"

"I am your enemy. Your enemy."

"No, please, don't."

"Mercy. Mercy." Clara Dalek said.

"You shouldn't be able to say that." The Doctor said, his eyes widening.

"Mercy." Clara Dalek said.

"That word shouldn't exist in your vocabulary. How did Davros teach you to say that?" The Doctor asked. "Jared, did you know about this?"

"The Dalek being able to say mercy? Yeah. Another one said it to River during Big Bang Two." I said, happily.

"I see. So it has been in its programming for that long."

"Mercy." Clara Dalek said.

"Why aren't you trying to kill me and Jared?" The Doctor asked, looking at Clara Dalek.

"Mercy."

"Because I would never kill you and Jared. You and Jared are the last people I would ever kill." Clara said, in the Dalek.

"I show mercy." Clara Dalek said.

"Okay. I'm tired of this." I said, grabbing the Dalek gun from the Doctor. "Open the Dalek casing."

"Jared? What are you doing?" The Doctor asked.

"Trust me."

"How?" Clara asked, in the Dalek.

"How?" Clara Dalek asked.

"Think the word 'open'. It will work. Promise." I said, smiling.

Clara sighs and obeys. The casing opens to reveal her.

"Oh, look at that. Now, there's a surprise." Missy said, smirking.

"Missy, you'd better run." I said, holding up the Dalek gun and pointing it at Missy. "Hope I didn't get the ghostly wail early."

"Oh, Doctor, Jared." Clara said, letting out a lot of tears.

"Clara…" I said, handing the Dalek gun back to the Doctor. I then started to disconnect Clara from the Dalek casing. "My Clara…"

"In a way, Doctor, this is why I gave her to you and Jared in the first place. To make the two of you see. The friend inside the enemy, the enemy inside the friend, and the friend that is the mix of the friend and enemy." Missy said.

"Clara, I'm sorry. I should have stopped it. I should have been the one in the Dalek!" I said, walking up to Clara to hug her. "I knew this would happen!"

"Everyone's a bit of both. Everyone's a hybrid."

"Missy, I told you to run." I said, rolling my eyes. "You really should before I change my mind."

"It wasn't me who ran, Jared. That was always you and the Doctor." Missy said, walking away.

Control room…

"Emergency! Dalek control is compromised." Dalek Supreme said.

The Doctor, Clara, and I run in. A bit of ceiling falls.

"Where was the TARDIS? It was over there somewhere, wasn't it?" The Doctor asked, still holding the Dalek gun.

"Yeah. It was over here." I said, dragging Clara to where the TARDIS was. "Come on, Doctor Disco. I'm tired of Skaro."

"What is happening? Explain! Explain!" Dalek Supreme said.

"Dalek Supreme, your sewers are revolting." The Doctor said.

"Revolting and full of ghost energy and regeneration energy." I said, squeezing Clara's hand.

More rubble falls as the Doctor, Clara, and I run to the indicated spot.

"You and the Doctor will assist, or you will be exterminated." Dalek Supreme said.

"Go on. Exterminate us." I said, clutching the strap of my sling bag.

"Jared!" Clara said, terrified.

The Daleks fire, but the energy bolts bounce off something invisible around us.

"Oops, sorry. TARDIS force field is still here. We get in, you don't." The Doctor said.

"The TARDIS has been destroyed." Dalek Supreme said.

"Ah, don't be silly, of course it hasn't. It just redistributed itself for a moment. Hostile Action Dispersal System. I'll give it a quick blast from my sonic, and the real time envelope will reassemble right here."

"Doctor, you don't have your screwdriver." Clara said, sadly.

"Oh, yeah, I'm over screwdrivers. As Jared has been over screwdrivers. They spoil the line of your jacket. These days, I'm all about wearable technology as Jared's all about ghost powers." The Doctor said, putting on his sunglasses.

"No! No? Seriously?" Clara asked.

"Yup. My ghost powers are helpful at times. And I love the sonic shades." I said, and the Doctor twitches the glasses and particles are floating all around us. "Been waiting for it for ages."

"What is happening?" Dalek Supreme asked.

"Oh, same old, same old. Just the Doctor, Clara Oswald, and Jared Shay in the TARDIS." The Doctor said, smiling

The TARDIS reforms around the Doctor, Clara, and I, then dematerialises.

(Open POV)

Corridor…

Missy runs into a bunch of Daleks.

"Humanoid detected. Humanoid detected. Remain still. Do not move. Do not move. You are a Time Lord." The Daleks said, at the same time.

The building shakes. She staggers.

"You know what? I've just had a very clever idea." Missy said, smirking.

(Jared's POV)

Planet surface…

The Doctor, Clara, and I watch the city disintegrate from a high ridge.

"No chance one of you are going to tell me what's in that confession dial, I suppose?" Clara asked.

"Spoilers." I said, looking down at the ground.

The Doctor puts it in his trouser pocket.

"Hmm." Clara said.

"It doesn't make sense." The Doctor said.

"What doesn't?"

"Clara, when you were in the Dalek, you made it say mercy.. It shouldn't have understood the concept, it shouldn't have been able to say it. How did a tiny piece of mercy get into the DNA of the Daleks?" The Doctor asked.

"To the point that one made River Song say it during Big Bang Two." I said, happily. "That has been a part of their nature for ages."

Long pause as the obvious reason finally dawns on the Doctor, then he runs to the TARDIS with me clutching the Dalek gun.

"Doctor? Jared?" Clara asked, looking between the Doctor and I.

Battlefield…

"Help me! You and your friend can't leave me! You promised. You said I had a chance." Young Davros said, sadly.

The Tardis materialises behind him. The door opens and Young Davros turns around.

"Who are the two of you? I don't get it. How did you both get there?" Young Davros asked.

"We're back. We've come back from the future." I said, sadly.

"Are you and your friend going to save me?"

"We're going to save our friend the only way we can." The Doctor said, taking aim with a Dalek gun. "Exterminate!"

The Doctor blasts all the hand mines to oblivion.

"Come on, Davros. Let's take you home." I said, smiling.

"Which side are you and your friend on? Are you the enemy?" Young Davros asked, looking between the Doctor and I.

"We're not sure that any of that matters, friends, enemies. So long as there's mercy. Always mercy." The Doctor said, holding out his hand.

"Life is precious, it is beautiful. And it. Must. Be. Protected." I said, also holding out my hand.

The boy Davros takes them and the three of us walk away together.
