Angel scrunched up her nose at the blood-covered alpha. "If we go straight, we'll come up near a river that runs through the forest. We can make up camp against the bank. You can use the water to take a well worthy bath. It's not very nice to play with your food."
He tortured the poor Kitty. The large cat was just doing something that was in its nature. To that cat, there was nothing wrong with killing and eating those teddy bears. They were food.
We were much smarter creatures. Yet, we killed and ate animals. It was in our nature. To the animals and outer species, we could be considered heartless monsters. Heck, humans had this term called vegans that they labeled themselves. They didn't eat animals but plants. I have always wondered about that term. Weren't plants living beings too?
Humans were blinded from the other worlds that were around them. Plants grew, breathed, and reproduced like living beings. The way they carried out this act was different but it was still called what it was. The Swallowing Flowers had a heart that beat as living beings. Though it couldn't be seen by the human eyes, it was still in existence. Regardless, humans were humans. They were a weird yet fascinating set of species. Our supernatural kind often found them intriguing enough to mate with them.
I, on the other hand, couldn't grow too fond towards any, no matter how appetizing they were. The thought of their life span turned my mind away. They couldn't live as long as I could. It would be like setting up myself for failure. Some witches often used spells to link their life span to their mates. Therefore, if a vampire mated with a human, they would request for a witch to cast such a spell that would ensure that the human would live as long as the vampire. A sweet deal but like everything else, it had a fine print clause. If the vampire died beforehand, so would that human.
So, if the human had originally supposed to die at ninety. If they sealed their soul with their mate and that mate died when the human was at the age of thirty, they too would die, shortening their lifespan again. All the things they were supposed to do, to see died with them.
Angel threw Sabastian his boxers. "Cover yourself up. You might be pleasing to the eye but none of us want to walk around with a naked man."
Sabastian glanced at us with a sigh. "Really? I thought all this blood would hide my soldier. Have you never seen those cool body paints that disguise everything?"
His soldier? Who the hell named their penis soldier? I thought kids were the only ones who gave their ding dongs names. The immature ones.
Angel rested a hand on her hip. "Have you? You've been locked away since the day you got into this universe and yet here you are lecturing me, a creature that has seen it all, about things you haven't even seen with your own two eyes. How funny."
The alpha rolled his eyes and pulled on his boxers. "There, Grandma. Is there anything else you want me to do to make you seem any older?"
The angel narrowed her eyes at him. "No, let's just go, Mr. Anderson."
"Good," he beamed and waved her on. "Lead the way, Your Angelness."
She gritted her teeth and pivoted on her heels. We followed her through an indecipherable path. This time Sabastian walked beside me. Any time, my gaze strayed from Angel's head, he gave me a warning glare. I ignored him and the dried blood on his skin. He didn't seem bothered by it at all. I would have been whining or scratching to get clean. If anything, this alpha appeared content in the blood of another creature.
My mind flashed back to the beast he tortured. The pain it must have gone through. Sabastian plucked out all its whiskers. If there was any other injury we didn't get a chance to view it. The animal wasn't moving when the alpha hauled it to us. He must have done something to it for the poor thing to welcome such treatments.
I watched the alpha through the corner of my eyes. His entire body was covered in the creature's blood. The wails the creature made were because of what was being done to it. The blood painted on Sabastian's body prevented me from seeing any injury he could have acquired during the battle. He walked tall as if he suffered none. A sane man could not have inflicted such harm to an animal without some sort of remorse. Yet, this guy tortured a beast then laughed afterward as though nothing happened.
We never reached the river until the leaves were orange turning red. Well, I should rephrase the term river. It resembled a beach. A separate world from the forest. White sand filled the bank while sparkling aquamarine water stretched into forever. There was even a sky above it. A blue one with clouds. This place was beyond beautiful.
"Wow," I expressed.
"Yeah, it's gorgeous, isn't it?" Angel bragged. "Goddess Oscura loves this place. Sad to say, it is not as peaceful as it looks. We can't let our guard down. At all. I'll set up a ward here. Sabastian you can go take a bath. Leo, you watch his back."
The bandit gave her a curt nod. Sabastian whipped off his boxers and wasted no time in getting into the water. The blood from his skin stained the perfect water. When all the blood was washed from his body, he went swimming.
Angel set up the ward and summoned the tents and sleeping supplies. Three tents: one for me, the other was for the bandit, and the third was the quarters for the alpha and the angel. Like our first night here, she summoned supplies to make a fire and cook. Tonight it was beans and bread.
"I'm sure I am not the only one who needs to take a shower," Sabastian yelled. "Leo, get in here, the water is nice. Angel, aren't you coming?"
Leo didn't make a move. "I would rather wait until it's dark."
I peered at the available trees in front of the beach. The leaves were almost red yet the place was still bright. Leo was a bandit. He couldn't risk shedding his armor in daylight.
Angel laughed at the alpha. "Oh, I should know you would love company. One would think since you have been on your own for so long, you would be used to being alone."
Sabastian shrugged. "I'm a wolf. An alpha. One is not a number I know. When I move, it's in a pack, a group. Just like a guardian angel can't do without a God."
The angel's lips twitched. "Oh, you do have a point. I guess we have more in common than we expected."
Sabastian flashed his hair. Droplets of water rained from his body. "Get in." This time it was a command.
Like a puppet, Angel complied with his demand. A minute later, she was in the water, playing with the alpha. Naked, Angel's wings were more obvious. The halo over her head glowed brighter when she was in the water. I couldn't help but wonder if she was a virgin. Angels were supposed to be pure.
However, they were not limited to having mates and being married under their God's laws. Some even mated with other species. They were forbidden from dating or having sexual relations with demons. I couldn't remember if they were permitted to have sex out of wedlock. Guardian Angels only loved their Gods. None ever got mated. Though they were supposed to be pure, there was some deity that forgot the nature of the creature they were. They did more impure things than regular creatures. There were even instances where Gods had relations with their Guardian Angel. Of course, their actions were covered up and kept from the Supreme God.
If Angel was sexually active, she wouldn't be the first angel to do such an act. She didn't hesitate to play with Sabastian while he was nude, nor did she look away from him when he stood in front of her that way. She didn't curse but she didn't dress in robes either. Her words held no modesty. Her dresses ended midway her thighs. There was no innocence in her features.
She was pretty. The kind of women guys would like. Sabastian may be a wolf but he did have traits of deity blood running through his blood. He could view her as a potential sexual partner if they weren't already doing it.
I groaned aloud at where my train of thought got.
"Are you having trouble lighting the fire? If you are, I can help." The hissing sound couldn't go unnoticed.
I never dared look at the bandit. "No, I was just…"
My words trailed off when the bandit crouched and started setting up the woods to create the fire. I sighed but went to prepare the beans. It was best to get my mind out of the gutter. So what if Sabastian and Angel liked each other. They were both adults. They could do whatever they wanted. I shouldn't give a damn. But, I did.
Bummer!
