Angel smiled at my question. "Don't worry, you'll see. It's best to focus on getting out of here."
The priest look-a-like and his mate shared a glance. None said anything. We went back to eat our meals. If anything, the silence made me anxious. I was missing something. They said something about the preparation of mates. Could it mean that they would sacrifice a couple to open the gate? I hoped that was not the case. As much as I would love to get back to the human world, sacrificing someone for that would not sit well with me.
I hated how quiet Kane was through all this. He interacted with the couple about other things but the ritual. I did not see him as the kind of guy to just take any pill and swallow. He should have questions. In this case, he did not. That was a big red flag for me. They all knew what was next.
