I paused. Uneasiness settled in my chest. Anxiety gnawed at me from the day before. I couldn't tell what it was and that was even more frustrating than anything else. It didn't help that Scarlet kept to herself. She no longer smiled but would do things on autopilot. I could not help but wonder if this anxiety sprouted from her. Something was wrong. I was not sure if it was better to wait for her to come to me or demand that she tell me.
Scarlet staggered. My heart skipped a beat. All my pores opened. My mind searched for some clue as to what would happen next. Nothing flowed. A brick wall. Scarlet's defense was bulletproof. She refused to let me in.
