Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

"Good morning, Ms. Hester. Do you wish to have breakfast?" Gob brought her a full breakfast. A bowl of salad, bread, jam, cereals, and fresh milk. Anything that might interest her, he would bring it.

Grace only combed her hair and did not answer Gob, she only glanced at the dinner that Gob had prepared the night before. It was all intact, untouched. She has been neglecting meals for almost a week now.

"Ms. Hester, if you do not wish to have breakfast, at least have this warm fresh milk. At least wet your throat a little. Neglecting meals is not the right way to force him to let you go home, you know that it is not possible for him to do so. If you keep neglecting meals and die of starvation here, aren't you going to leave your brother alone in this world? Isn't it better if you keep yourself healthy? You will need some energy to leave this place. While you think of a way to leave this place, you should keep yourself healthy. I just need to say that Young Master Kyle is an iron-willed man, no one can defy him. So if you wish to return home, maybe you can try to soften his heart and make him feel sympathetic toward you. Once you have done so, I believe that he will grant whatever you wish for or let you go wherever you want." Then Gob took back the dinner from last night and replaced it with a new meal.

He glanced back right before he left through the door, he then smiled knowing that Grace did eat her breakfast.

Meanwhile, Nicholas was seated with his hand on his chin. He gnashed his jaw whenever he saw his own face in the mirror. Suddenly, he hurled the crystal glass in his hand toward the mirror, which shattered the mirror into many pieces.

Marvin that had just entered the room was staggered. He heard a loud noise of shattering glass. Then he looked at the person in front of him. He saw Nicholas grasped a blade so hard that his hand bled profusely.

"What are you doing, Nick? Why are you hurting yourself?" Marvin took hold of that blade and threw it away, Nicholas gruntled in pain. Marvin ordered his men to clean up the mess that had happened. "What on earth is happening to you? Is this all because of that Ms. Hester? If so, you are really out of your mind, Nick!" Marvin looked so angry. Nicholas gnashed his jaw and did not answer Marvin. Apparently, silence is really a price he had to pay now.

Marvin seated himself on a chair in front of Nicholas. He tried to understand what was going on by judging Nicholas' expression, but to no avail.

"Nick, listen to me. You are the most influential man in this country. How could you be so weak just because of a little girl like Ms. Hester? You–"

Bang!!!

"Silence, Marvin! Stop telling me stuff that I do not want to hear!" Nicholas yelled. Marvin gulped and raised both of his hands in the air because Nicholas was aiming his gun at Marvin's head now.

"So what makes you so anxious, Nick? Is it because of the scar on your face?"

Nicholas remained silent for a moment, then he put his gun down on the table. Marvin looked at that gun and let loose a sigh of relief. At least he would not die of Nicholas Kyle's anger for now.

"I am afraid that if she sees my face right now, she will remember." Nicholas mumbled. His gaze was blank, just like he did many years ago when he first fell into this dark world during his youth, 18 years old to be precise. That moment has turned him into a cold-blooded killer. Not only animals, but also people's lives have fallen in his hands; every single person that happened to be in his way, be it directly connected to his business or not. He only had a single goal in his mind; to be the highest ruler of the world. Same dream that was envisioned by his father decades ago. Alas, his father could not achieve the same goal. He was brutally murdered right before Nicholas' very eyes.

"Damn it!" Every time he remembered that unfortunate event, his chest hurt. He absolutely had no idea what to do to calm himself down. He had cut the same wound to a child who had her father murdered violently and had her mother raped savagely. Nicholas himself has given a child the worst memory imaginable.

"Can't you just have a little surgery to fix that scar, Nick? I believe Ms. Hester did not remember what had happened back then. It was all in the past. If you keep making things hard for yourself, you are going to give Ms. Hester hardship as well. Fix it all now, I am certain that you can do that, Nick."

"This scar is also something I got because of it." Nicholas mumbled. He let loose a long sigh and then closed his eyes. All of those bad memories seem to relive in his mind.

"Decide it right away or lose it all." Marvin said

Nicholas sighed, then he looked at Marvin with an indecipherable expression. Was that possible? It has been decades after he got that scar, how could he just let go of his pain now? That scar was one of many reasons why he was in his position now, it was what drove him to be the person he was that day.

"Do what you must." Nicholas had decided. He closed his eyes again to reminisce about his old memories. He never thought that he would have said something like that now.

Marvin seems astonished by what Nicholas said just now. For the first time in forever, Nicholas Kyle agreed to what Marvin had suggested. Is that really Nicholas Kyle? Or is that just a very complicated version of him. Yes, it must be caused by that little girl Grace Hester. It was her that made Nicholas Kyle powerless like this. She had him totally stripped down.

Marvin did not know how to react, whether he had to be sad or happy about this. One thing is certain, Marvin wanted Nicholas to be a better person. Nicholas did become weaker now, really unprofessional. But on the other hand, Marvin felt a little happy because a part of Nicholas' humanity had returned. His long dead heart had finally come back to life. Marvin thought that Nicholas' sympathy for others had been gone for good.

Marvin sighed while looking at Nicholas that was seen staring at the wound on his palm.
