Adrian brought Briar in a hug as he reassured her that everything would be okay.
"You don't know that," Briar whispered to him.
"Okay, you're not wrong."
She scoffed.
"What? I'm terrible at comforting people," Adrian said to her.
"It's the thought that counts I guess," Briar said to him.
They stayed in an embrace, and Briar inhaled, taking a whiff of Adrian. Did he always smell so darned good?
She wondered when she'd gather the courage to tell him how she felt for him.
They stayed there, hearing the pounding of each other's heartbeat.

"Briar, I have something to tell you," Adrian began.
Briar looked up at him, and they separated from each other, Adrian's face inches away from her.
"What is it?"
