Chapter 1 - Prologue

Daemonele University represents different things for different people, the school of the most elite and privileged, the birthplace of the greatest magicians this country has ever seen, and a stepping stone to become the King's Magus, but for Ylaena Aphelion it is only an escape.

She had been born with a destiny, one she shared with her sister Yaena and one she desperately wanted to escape. All her life she had been taught how to act, how to look, well she was sick of it! She never wanted to be Countess Ylaena, but  simply 'Enna the sorceress' , or even just 'Enna the slayer of annoying people' .

In this train ride particularly, she desperately wanted to slay plenty of people. Look at all these fools, bragging about their pathetic titles as if they actually earned it. Her sister always told her that the name of their family she so forsakes, is the only thing that makes her special. Ylaena would defend herself by bragging about her magical abilities, and even if that isn't enough she also has massive breasts. She will prove herself in this University, by wit or by tit!

What could be said about the entrance ceremony except that it was boring? Ylaena fell asleep half of the ceremony and the other half she was trying to light the lovely dovey couple in the side of her seat on fire. Her plot to burn the hair of the flirty student  in front of her however was foiled when the boy sitting next to her kept bothering her.

"Hey, hey girl are you an angel"

"No "

"Nah girl your an angel cuz seeing you is like being in heaven"

"I'm not sure about that but if you keep bothering me, I'll make sure you see what it's like being in hell"

The guy didn't relent however, he kept trying to make a move on her, men can rarely tell apart when a woman is playing hard to get or is repulsed by them. Roland was the type who thinks every girl wants him. Perhaps from his wealthy , his blonde wavy locks, or his tall stature but women often found him attractive, which made him vain and true enough Ylaena can recognize that he is but if she didn't trust people in extrinsic features alone, on the contrary she assumed that the attractive are always less trustworthy.

The speech went on for what felt like hours for Ylaena, from the annoying couple in the left and the pickup artist in the right, and not to mention the boring ass speech of the Principal Magus…she was in hell she was sure of it, maybe because she put laxatives on her sister's food before she left, or because she stepped on a cheeky boy's toy gun when she was in the train but fate is punishing her somehow, in her difference that boy kept shooting her with his pellet gun and as for Yaena, well, she was Yaena…

Finally it ended and she stood up as soon as she could but to her despair, Roland followed her…they were classmates…

"Hey girl, I'd die just to have your name"

"Go ahead and die, join your dead ass pickup lines"

"You know what I have had with you! You should be on your knees thanking me right now! My father is the governor. It's only because of him inferior beings like you can go to school! Why don't you face it women-"

Before Roland could say any further, Ylaena had enough and sent him flying toward the wall as she casted."Vliegen" her favorite magic spelt that causes the person she casted it to fly at any direction she chooses.

"Women what?! You didn't finish!" Ylaena shouted at the end of the classroom as she went in her seat. The spectators of this chuckled and Roland feeling insulted was about to attack her but yet again he was interrupted.

This time not by Ylaena but by a heavy hand. He turned around and flinched to see a guy so close to him, it was a plain looking boy with pale complexion who had shoulder length black hair, had long bangs that covered his eyes, wearing an unadorned white shirt and white trousers, he was ghostly in more ways than one.

Roland never even noticed his presence, like a panther in the darkness Roland only saw him the moment the boy decided to show himself, Roland prepared his fists, "must be one of those hero wannabes" he thought to himself but at the same time he felt oddly terrified of this boy whose whole demeanor was so mysterious, he couldn't understand anything but that disarming gaze he had.

"What?!" Roland tried to provoke the boy but he didn't even flinch.

"My seat… your in the way…please move" The boy was strangely polite and without need to quarrel with him he stepped back and let the boy walk as he sat next to Ylaena, by the window and buried face in his arms as he slept on the table.

Roland was finally going to confront Ylaena but for the last time he was interrupted, he didn't care who it was this time, he would beat him! That was what he thought but then he saw who it was. Cairo Álvarez, the son of Horus Alvarez, his father's enemy and also his.

Cairo however was powerful and twice they have dueled, Roland lost every single one. It's a rule that the 3rd duel would need to be death, no pleading for mercy or bargaining, the moment the flag is dropped the match won't end unless one ceases to breathe. He held his breath and slowly stepped back after having an intense staring contest with Cairo for minutes. "I see you're trying to hit on someone again" Cairo clenched his jaw in irritation. "Dare to use any of your abilities against her… we'll have the 3rd round…"

Roland felt terrified of the thought but after being shamed so much he couldn't back down, besides there are other ways to beat Cairo "You think you're so cool don't you Cairo! Did you forget who I am?! You raise your hand against me one more time, let's see if Horus Alvares will still win in the next election!"

How pathetic he is. Cairo clicked his tongue at the thought and approached him menacingly. He raised his forefinger then blew on it as that suddenly made Roland's eyes widened in shock. Because the next thing he knew, his pants were caught on fire. That made the idiot get out of the room while yelling "You will pay for this Alvarez"

"You didn't have to do that" Ylaena didn't even look back as all of this was occuring just behind her. Didn't even thank me for my good deed? Cairo's lips somehow curled into a grin. His eyes trailed down at the short attractive female standing just a meter away from him, though she's not facing him, he can tell that she's quite appealing. Based on her long wavy burgundy dyed hair, the soft yet fierce tone of her voice and cute height, Cairo seemed to have found this lady, how would he put it in words, alluring from behind? He mentally shook at the thought and approached her. "Sorry bout' that, Roland tends to flirt around -- " but he soon paused from  talking after Ylaena lazily looked back at him. With one eyebrow raised and arms crossed, Ylaena felt drained while facing the guy. Who would've thought that such things would happen on my first day here? A very unpredictable day!

"Yeah… That dickhead drained me --"

"Easy with the language… beautiful" Ylaena's jaw slightly tightened to hear that coming from him and felt tired. It was something she didn't expect. Really? How many times do I have to get hit on?!

Behind her she heard a stifled laugh, one only trained ears could hear. She tried to find out where it was coming from, alas the laugh ceased when she turned her attention. Cairo, confused at what she was doing, assumed it was her queue to leave her alone.

"I'm sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused you, I am not too accustomed to talking with foreigners" Cairo felt slightly embarrassed at how his complement fell flat but at the same time intrigued by the girl with the sharp tongue and even sharper skills, while Ylaena similarly admitted that this Cairo, is somewhat intriguing, he managed to notice she wasn't from there, was quick to notice her disinterest, and credit given where credit is due, handsome but without the vanity of the man before.

With the occurrence over and the crowd around them dispersed, the girl on the other side of Ylaena took her seat. She was a tall, pretty, and classy young woman who had an alluring smile and a pleasant voice that made every sentence soothing to the ear.

"Hi, I'm Kathlinsa Faria. That was something wasn't it " she covered her mouth with a pink handkerchief as she giggled. Ylaena felt her tenseness slightly lowered by her soothing voice.

"Ylaena Aphelion, tell me about it. Are all the boys hear thirsty savages?"

"Oh don't be so cruel, some of them are rather… splendid" Kath fixed her gaze upon Cairo who sat back with his friends. With her incredible hearing, Ylaena heard a few coherent words from his friends as they laughed at him namely "no chance", "shot down quick", and "you can't get girls like that" in reply Cairo would only scratch his head and look down not at all defending himself, which made Ylaena slightly guilty of how mean she was to him.

On the other side of the room however was Roland who was with a few girls. His words were slanderous and targeted towards her and Cairo, that made her annoyed once again.

"I bet you get hit on a lot more than I do Kathlinsa, I mean you're much prettier than I am. How is it that you aren't as annoyed as I am"

Kath's evergreen eyes widened with Ylaena's remark. "Surely you jest. You are definitely much more beautiful, you have earned the envy of half the girls here the moment you entered. I cannot hope to have half as much admirers as you"

Ylaena was about to argue every word but by the time she spoke, Kathlinsa had already moved on. She found Kath agreeable, she was well-groomed but not afraid to talk about vulgar things, she was honest but strayed from topics that would make them both uncomfortable, and most of all she had the same interests, they read the same novels, listened to the same music, and drank the same tea.

Ylaena felt satisfied with Kath as a friend, she is definitely much more genuine than any other friend she had, Kath was the very ideal girl both as a friend and a lover, Ylaena disliked the thought of Kath having a man, she especially feared the thought of someone like Roland being that man.
