"A call?"
Raine was still busy with her own preparations when her phone suddenly rang. She didn't know how or why it was ringing, especially since she was pretty sure she wasn't expecting any sort of news from anyone, but she might as well check and see what was making her phone buzz in her back pocket.
"Dad? What's wrong?" Raine quizically asked upon seeing the caller ID on her screen. A tinge of worry blooming in her chest, she answered the call. "Hello?"
"Hello, Raine. When would you be coming home?" her father asked his tone still as soulless as ever despite her progress. "Would it be fine for you to eat dinner here at home?"
Raine was taken aback. She was pretty sure her father wasn't capable of asking for this. Did Nathan ask him to do this?
"Did Nathan put you up to this?" Raine asked.
"...Would it be fine for you to eat dinner here at home?"
