Chapter 71 - Chapter 71 - Resident Evil Begins

---Raccoon City, Three Weeks Later---

"Team, how are the preparations for deploying our assets?", Wesker asked speaking to the scientists over a video call.

Having had to push back the launch date of their weapons due to outside interference, the team had worked tirelessly to get the project back on track. The final pieces were falling into place for Umbrella, and soon their completed assets would be deployed into active duty. Of course this made Wesker happy, but staff were starting to worry that his mind was slipping. That said no one dared voice that concern aloud to him for fear he'd kill them.

"We have worked around the clock to ensure that we are ready to deploy today. There are just a few things left to ensure that we are ready to deploy. Our main concern is the control system for the units, and the camera feeds.", Jessica replied wiping the swear from her brow, "If it weren't for several hackers attacking our systems we'd have completed this sooner. It took Oscar from the Dev Team two days to patch the systems against the hackers."

"The Executives have Red and White Queen doing work for them in regards to taking nuclear assets. We had our hands tied with that, but that will soon not be a problem.", Wesker grumbled, 'Soon I won't have to listen to those bastards anymore. I will bury them under their own creations before I take control. There will need to be some staff changes soon too...'

Watching the team complete their checks on the assets currently at HQ, he had them run checks on assets at the remote locations. Since no one was onsite to verify everything at those sites, the scientists had to make due with what their systems told them. Once they were satisfied that everything was ready, they went to leave the bay where the assets were to finally take a much needed break. Swiping her keycard to leave the room, Jessica noticed the screen was showing Locked.

"Commander, the doors are locked again. Can you send maintenance down to fix them?", Jessica sighed with yawn, "This has been happening quite frequently, and it's been getting old. Hasn't maintenance found the issue yet? All of us would like to get some sleep so we can continue to-"

"It was never an issue in the first place.", Wesker interrupted her, "I have been removing staff that aren't faithful to me as you are liability to me. My team only has room for those dedicated to what I tell them, I don't need people like you that second guess me anymore."

Hearing those words, the scientists started to visibly panic. There had been rumors the lockouts had been caused by Wesker, but no one gave them credence as they thought Wesker was too busy with other things. Everyone had assumed that it was a glitch in the system or the residual effect of the hackers.

"Wesker...this isn't a funny joke...", Jessica remarked, "Open the door, please."

"Since when do you know me to make jokes?", Wesker questioned in a cold tone, "Your work has been impeccable, but it's time to remove any potential threats to our operation. Some of you have been battling with your conscious, so let me take this opportunity to ease your minds. You don't have to worry if your decision was right or wrong...the dead don't need to make decisions."

"Wesker!!", Jessica shouted, "You need us!! If you kill us how will you-"

"I have your notes and your colleagues still in the building will help. As far as they will know, the hackers initialized the assets while you were in the bay. In order to save the base, you gave your lives to seal the bay off from the base.", Wesker said with an evil smirk, "Your services are no longer needed, consider this your termination."

"WESKER!!", Jessica screamed as the monitor kicked off, "You rat bastard, you can't do this to us after everything we did for Umbrella and you!!!"

Hearing the shackles restraining their creations fall to the ground, Jessica stared at the monitor as her anger boiled over. She had dedicated her life to Umbrella's goal, she had given up marrying her college sweetheart to pursue this career. The last twenty years she spend working for Umbrella...only to be tossed out like garbage. Now she was going to be fed to her own creations, how ironic it was. She had helped lead the charge to make this world fall, and now she was going to die here like a trapped animal.

"Damn you piece of shit!!", she snarled, "After all the things I did for you, you toss me aside like this!! I can't fathom what the hell she saw in you!! I bet you had your own wife executed too once you got what you wanted from her!! She called you out about your love child in South America, didn't she!? That's why you had her killed because she would have ruined your plans!!"

Deep in her heart she always suspected Wesker had his wife killed. The circumstances surrounding her death had always been an unsolved murder, all because he insisted they needed to continue moving forward with their plans. He viewed his own family as an obstacle to his goals...even his own children weren't worth a damn to him.

"Jessica, we need to run!!", one of her subordinates told her looking around in a panic.

"Run where?! We turned the world into barren wasteland!! There only a few settlements of any decent size still standing.", Jessica refuted, "We just gave Umbrella the tools to wipe all of them out!! Once these things are out, no one is going to stop them!!"

"What...what about the Commander's son!! He...he has been able to fight the Demons and Undead easily. If we plead with him, maybe they might accept us.", one of the interns suggested wetting herself as the monsters they made started moving, "He...he's fought millions of Undead and Demons by himself. I...I don't want to die here!!"

If they were to run anywhere, going to Wesker's son would be the safest place. From the information they had, he had been taking Alaska back from the Undead and Demons. Survivors were racing to Alaska trying to get his protection. If their sources were to be believed, nearly half a million people were already under his guidance. Unfortunately though Wesker's son had a grudge with Umbrella, which was well deserved given what Wesker did to him. Being abandoned by your father, and having a hit put out on you would piss anyone off.

'Even if I have to put my face in shit, I will grovel at his feet to survive.' , Jessica thought before turning to her subordinates, "Fuck it, stay close to me! We are going to get the hell out of here!!"

The few subordinates of hers that trusted her with their lives followed her while the majority of them decided take their chances by escaping. Hearing the bay doors open behind them, the group of six broke out into a dead sprint as they heard the Undead pounding on the reinforced doors The screams of their dying comrades filled their ears as they raced towards an emergency exit that led into an old part of the Umbrella HQ. Reaching the door with the Undead chasing after them, they barely managed to shut the door before the dead crashed against the walls. Hearing the wall creak under their weight, the group held each other tightly as the very things they made stared at them like prey.

"We have to move!! The door and walls won't hold for long!!", Jessica ordered, "We have maybe fifteen minutes before the walls cave in!!"

"What about security, won't they kill us too?", the intern asked following her down a flight of stairs.

"Security doesn't have access to this part of the building. It's been in disuse since Wesker's wife died several years ago. This area was her private laboratory, and the very place she died.", Jessica said rushing towards the old lab.

"Why are we going there!?", they shrieked, "Isn't this place crawling with her failed experiments?!"

"No, her failures were exterminated years ago. I made up that rumor to keep people from poking their noses around in my friend's research. She poured everything she had into her research, I didn't want someone stealing it. Umbrella buried her research after deciding to follow through with using the viruses and fungus to cause this apocalypse.", Jessica snapped, "I helped her with her work down here, there are two assets that I kept quiet about. If Wesker found them, he'd have destroyed them himself."

"So exactly what happened to her?", the intern questioned.

Saying that she came in early one day to find her best friend torn to pieces all over the floor. Judging by what she saw that day, Jessica thought it was someone in the Cybernetic Department that killed her. There were three teams that were competing to secure funding, and at that time it was neck and neck between their team and the Cybernetics Department. In the end the Bioweapon Team won, and other teams lost their funding. Now though she believed Wesker killed her to secure a victory for his team, and ensure his wife wouldn't cause him issues.

Putting the past events behind her, she focused on the current situation. Using a separate keycard to access a secure room, she rushed everyone inside before activate the vault doors. Waiting for the door to shut with baited breath, once the doors were sealed Jessica let out a sigh of relief. While she was focus on that, the other five people looked around the room with curiosity. Everything in the room was covered in a thick layer of dust suggesting that this room hadn't been touched in years.

The silence they felt here was unsettling given the situation going on outside. Asking her why they came here, Jessica simply said to help her move the furniture. Clearing the center of the room from clutter, Jessica pushed a specific floor tile down causing a loud clicking sound to occur. Watching two large capsules rise out of the floor, her followers gasped as they saw two women floating in the capsules.

"What are they!?", the intern asked.

"These were her failed attempts to recreate the Abomination that Wesker's son has with him. They are capable of helping us get out of the base...assuming they are cooperative enough.", Jessica said starting the process of awakening them, "The last time they were out of their capsule they killed half of our team."

Removing their restraints and standing back, Jessica waited for them to wake up from their suspended states. The first one awoke within in moments, and was already enraged. Lashing out at them, the group dove for cover as invisible arms slashed everything to pieces. Shouting at her to let her talk, the woman wasn't having any of it.

"I won't be your test subject anymore!! I refuse to do anymore tests for you!!", she shouted, "I will kill all humans!! You are nothing, but a scourge on this world!! I will take that child away from you Devils!!"

<<>>

"Please wait, the woman that did that is dead!!", Jessica replied showing her Victor's picture, "The baby is also fully grown now!!"

Stopping her assault, the woman stared at the picture closely to judge if it was the truth. Looking similar to the creature that lived on the Yam Islands, this woman was much more standard human looking...aside from tiny horns on her head that sort of looked like cat ears. Her overall fighting strength was less than the original, but she still possessed some telekinetic powers. The biggest flaw with her was caused by their over excitement to figure out how her brain worked. She hated humanity with a burning passion, and would happily dance on the ashes of their demise. The only person she showed any kindness to was Victor.

It was the strangest thing about that, the two women would kill anyone they wanted but wouldn't ever so much as scratch Victor. Jessica remembered the last time the two of them were freed from their capsules clearly. On that day the team pressed their luck with them, and the two women went on a rampage killing nearly twenty people. To stop them, one of the scientists threw Victor at them which stopped them immediately. As if by instinct the two of them instantly stopped attacking, and went to catch him. It was during that brief few moments that Security managed to subdue them.

"Is she telling the truth?", the second one asked glaring at Jessica

<<>>

"I don't detect any lies.", the first one replied, "That is definitely the child we saw here. Where is he?"

"He...he is leading a group of humans in Alaska, Lucy.", Jessica told her honestly.

"I am surprised a human is capable of being honest.", Lucy mocked her, "All humans are trash in my book!!"

"I can agree with that.", the second woman agreed.

"Miss Jessica...who are they?", the intern asked.

"The first one here is Zero One, also known as Lucy. She was the first semi-successful specimen we had. Next is Zero Two, we never named her as she was too wild to reign in.", Jessica said sensing Zero Two's killing intent.

"Would you like to have probes in your brain, and be turned into a pincushion!?", Zero Two hissed, "You are just as guilty as that other woman was..."

"Please let me explain the situation outside, and why I woke you up.", Jessica insisted.

Giving her the opportunity to speak, Zero Two and Lucy listened to the details. Getting them up to speed on what had occurred since they were last awake, Jessica explained that humanity was on the verge of collapse currently. Giving her an amused smile, the two of them found this situation to their liking.

"So humanity is paying for it's cruelty...that is quite humorous.", Lucy laughed, "You have five seconds to tell us why we shouldn't kill you now, and leave here."

"I...I can take you Victor!!", Jessica said in a panic, "You are going to head to him, yes?"

"We intend to yes.", Zero Two stated, "He isn't like you bastards, he treated us like people."

'He was a freaking baby, he wouldn't the difference!', Jessica thought.

"So you will take us to Victor?", Lucy questioned.

"Yes, we intend to surrender to him as well. Umbrella has tossed us out, and they want us dead.", she replied, "Will you accept the deal?"

Looking at each other briefly, the two of them accepted the offer. Grabbing Jessica by the throat, Lucy stared into her eyes with a hint of killing intent.

"If you mislead us even slightly, I will make your last moments extremely painful.", Lucy growled.

Hearing the Undead breach the Bay Walls, everyone heard them pour down the stairwell and fill the outer hallway. With the primary exit blocked now, Jessica turned to the secret exit that was built into the wall. Calling up an elevator, everyone got onboard and descended into the depths beneath Umbrella Corp HQ.

---Victor POV---

"Finally!! We are done!!", I said as Shigure plopped down on my lap, "Thanks for your assistance, you too Tōchūmaru."

"It was nothing.", Shigure stated holding my hand, "It was fun working with you."

"I am happy you enjoyed it, but that freaking ridiculous.", I laughed, "I can't believe the amount of requests we got."

Looking at me with a blank expression, I patted her on the head while letting out a sigh. Sitting there enjoying the moment Saeko and Maya came in from their recon trip. While Shigure and I had been busy forging weapons, most of my lovers had been out leading the charge against the Undead and Demons. Not only that, Jeong and George had been busy constructing a radio beacon that told survivors to come here for safety.

I had yet to make physical contact with the military bases in Alaska, but I had managed to contact them via shortwave radio. All of them had agreed to forge an alliance with us to create a safe zone, and to assist with ground to air protection which allowed us the flexibility to activate the beacon. In the past few weeks droves of people had come here from all over the globe with more on their way.

"It was a good thing you had the other islands scouted in advance. We already filling up the last island in the chain. Construction of greenhouses and additional facilities is progressing quickly. Kyoko's team said we are on schedule to have them completed in two weeks.", Saeko advised handing me the notes from the Leadership Team, "We also had several South Korean and Russian ships pull in today with additional troops and supplies. Commander Hazama has already been integrating them into our troops. They should be ready to mobilize by tomorrow afternoon."

"Good, we have a sizable force as it stands so we can hold the ground we retake.", I said giving her a smile, "Now that those requests are completed, it's time for me to get back out there and put some of the big boys down."

"We will be right there to back you up.", Maya chuckled.

"Yes, we will assist you to the utmost.", Shigure added.

Noticing that Red and White Queens seemed to be waiting for me in the doorway to the kitchen, I asked them what was wrong. Walking over to me with a serious look on their faces I assumed that it was something serious. Before they could open their mouths, I got a notification on my HUD.

"Welcome to Resident Evil, World Phase Four Start!!", the HUD read.

'Alright then...it's finally time to end this shitstorm.', I thought with a smile, 'When I find you Wesker I am going to wipe that smug smile off your face with a MOAB to the fucking face. I have been saving one especially for you...father.'
