He stared down at the girl with a shocked expression on his face. Was this supposed to be some kind of joke?
The scent had told him it wasn't, but why wasn't he able to sense it before the moon light hit her? His eyes narrowed as he tried to think about this logically. There had to be a reason for it, he just hadn't been able to put his finger on it yet. A werewolf and a human being mates was something that only happened once in a blue moon.
It wasn't something he could deny though. That scent that was like the sweetest flower on earth was an indication for any werewolf that they had found their mate. To some it could even be intoxicating.
The rest of the members his pack that were nearby had heard what he said, but new better than to say anything at the current point in time. The Alpha was known for his temper, it was how he managed to become alpha in the first place.
Anyone who dared to interrupt now while he was trying to settle things in his mind would be likely to quickly regret their decision.
The girl didn't quite seem to understand why he was glaring at as he watched her tried to shift her position into a more tucked up one. Probably in an attempt to protect herself.
Of course she wouldn't understand what was going on. She probably never had seen a werewolf before tonight and now she had not only met a handful of them, but also watched a murder take place. What was she even doing here in the first place and was even aware of who this territory belonged to?
"Tell me little human," the werewolf started as he tried to keep his voice soft even though he couldn't do much about how deep and brusk he sounded.
"What are you doing here?" She Looked up at him with nervous tension in her eyes as though she was trying to see what the right answer he was looking for might've been.
"I came to look at the moon or rather enjoy the feel of it." she replied softly, licking her lips nervously.
"The moon?" The alpha asked as he looked up at the sky. He knew it was tonight which was a great time for werewolves, but he had never heard of a human who enjoyed the presence of the full moon.
"Yes. I know it might seem weird, but it feels amazing and on the second floor up there is the best spot to enjoy it from." she indicated with her hand in the direction of where the window she was sitting at was on the second floor.
He surveyed the area. He had never been up to the second floor but knew how dangerous it could be to try and reach. It would never hold the weight of a werewolf but he could see how a small human such as the one in front of him might've been able to perform such a feat without injuring themselves.
"Um." the soft voice and pause caused him to turn his attention back to the girl in front of him. He stared at her from over his nose as he waited to hear what she wanted to say.
"What exactly are you going to do with me?" the question came out all rushed together due to the nervousness of what she expected the answer to be. The fact that Alpha didn't answer right away only served to make her anxiety that much worse.
"What do you think that I'm going to do to you?" he asked in return as he crossed his rather thick and mottled black and read hairy arms over his chest. For a human, she certainly was an interesting creature. He could smell the thick scent of fear that surrounded, yet she somehow found it within herself to speak to him.
He knew that his appearance was intimidating to her but there wasn't much he could do about that since he hadn't brought a spare change of clothes with him. Plus, the territory that they were currently was considered neutral land which meant other threats could still be lurking around that he couldn't afford to put himself in a vulnerable position.
The human didn't answer the question that Bane had asked. instead, she glanced over to where the two lifeless bodies were laying not that far away from where she was. The smell of putrid smell was getting stronger with each passing second triggering the urge to gag each time she breathed in.
"Get the clean up crew in here to get this taken care of!" he barked not bothering to glance back at the other werewolves to make sure they were doing what he asked. He didn't need to because he knew they listened.
"What you see there isn't what I'm going to do to you." He told the girl who was more focused on what was going on with the bodies rather than listening to what the alpha was trying to tell. He side-stepped just enough so that he was blocking her view.
"You're my mate, do you understand what that means?" He asked once he noticed that the human's attention was drawn back to him. She shook her head rather than trying to answer the question that he had asked.
"It means little human that you and I are basically meant to be inseparable." He explained as he took a step closer to her.
"Though I do pity a small human like you being put into this kind of position because of the Moon Goddess." He told her as he tilted his head to the side slightly when she attempted to stand up in order to protest what the other had just told her.
This didn't work very well for her however as the stress, adrenaline mixed with the cold caused a intense spell of vertigo to make the world around her start to spin. She could no longer differentiate the Alpha from the dark shadows that were dancing along the walls.
Bane hardly had a chance to react to catch Celeste before she would've crumpled back onto the floor. This could've resulted in a more worse for wear state than she already seemed to be in.
As soon as she was in his arms and he had realized she was passed out, he pulled her body closer against.
This certainly wasn't how he had been expecting to meet his mate nor had he been expecting it to be a human of all things. Nothing about this night turning out the way that he had expected it to.
