Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Good News

It was late in the afternoon.

"Boys, come over here! I have some good news." Belle ran fast to the fields as she called out for Cimmerian and Vaissien, who were tilling the plots.

(What a hassle. Farming is very tiring, huh? Who'd have thought that from working as an underground agent, I'd be working on the muddy fields.)

"What is it, Big Sis?" He replied while waving his hand.

Vaissien and I came to where Big Sister Belle stood.

"Actually, a passing merchant has just bought our livestock. Isn't it nice? Right? Right? For a year, we haven't sold them. I never thought this would be a lucky day." She was extremely happy.

"Huh? It's not a good news, Big Sister. They just bought each cheaply, right? Last time, some merchants only offered 2 silver coins or 200 bronze coins each." Vaissien was absolutely pessimistic of it.

I had known that people in this village were always distressed by the unfair pricing of their livestock. I knew the price would be low, but I never thought it would be this low. But, as far as it appeared, Big Sister Belle's expression didn't seem to concur with Vaissien's remarks.

"No. That's not true. They actually bought each for 12 silver coins this time. Thus, I decided to sell 10 of the mature ones."

"Slow down. Slow down. Did I hear it right?  12 silver coins each? Then, for 10 of them, it's 120 silver coins or 1 gold and 20 silvers. Wow!!? W-W-Why did they follow the correct or the standard price?" Vaissien was astonished by the large sum of money they earned today.

"Actually, the merchants bought almost all the mature ones in the village, since they needed them right away. And they couldn't reach the next village due to the lurking bandits in the forest."

"Bandits? Oh, right. I heard that Alfredo and Mado were attacked. Their carriage was also stolen. I want to curse those bastards as much as their evildoing. Albeit, since they're the reason our ten livestock were sold, I hope they remain there forever, then… Ha-ha-ha."

"Right? Right? By the way, the merchants have already returned back. Tch. Tch. Tch." She clicked her tongue. "So bad, you two weren't able to see the beautiful girl who was with them. It would've been better, you know?" She teased them.

(A beautiful girl? Surely you jest. If there's something I've never really learned in my past life, that would be about romance and girls. Back then, the girls I knew were only those working as assassins. Aside from overly formal girls, whom I hate the most, I haven't had too much exposure to other kind. There was even a time when I was in a hot pursuit with some busty cop. So, I'm completely naive on this area.)

"Oh, Cimmy, aren't you happy? You've been so silent all this time." Belle wore a puzzled look as she looked at me.

"No. I was just thinking about something."

"Your suggestion is really correct, you know? The one you wrote in the paper. The merchants asked if they could lower the price at 8 silvers, but I insisted it should be in the standard price. Eventually, they approved of it."

"I don't know. So, brother, what was really your suggestion?"

"Cimmy told me that some merchants would soon buy the livestock, and I should unyieldingly sell each for 12 silvers in order to get a good return from the investment."

Big Sister Belle sated Vaissien's curiosity.

"Is that so? Wow!? You're amazing, brother. How did you guess that merchants would really buy them at that price?" Vaissien's eyes were sparkling like lustrous gems.

"Yeah, Cimmy, how did you know? First, I said it wasn't feasible because I thought merchants would never buy them anyway." She was also inquisitive.

"No." I shook my head, "it was just a guess."

""Really???"" They protruded their face at him at the same time.

(What a drag. These looked like the twins in my perception. They're almost alike in almost all ways.)

"Anyway," I shove them away, "Vaissien, clean the tools, and lets go back home. Let's just call it a day, can we? My body hurts, you know?"

"Y-Yes."
