Lila walked deeper into the forest trying to shut out the voices in her head. If only she had control On how her mind worked, she would have more comfortable days.
She sighed for the umpteenth time. Taking in the loss of yet another confidante wasn't as easy as she thought.
With the little pup tucked in her arms, she felt a little better. As she sat on a rock, her gaze never wavered from her new family.
The little one opened his eyes and looked at her. Though he couldn't talk, he seemed to understand her mood. She didn't break eye contact between them.
She kept watching him with some warmth in her gaze. The pup eventually looked away from her. He slowly crawled out of her arms and jumped off.
She sat back with her head propped on her elbow. The pup blinked a few times. As though making up his mind, he closed his eyes.
That's when she saw it. He was going to shift. A strange excitement bubbled in her heart.
