The three looked at the patient in disbelief. Who does that? While Kai and Ian had a look of amusement on their faces, Sienna was furious. Granted, any woman was bound to act like that if she wakes up to the vision of three ethereal werewolves. She felt her wolf wag its tail in pride until the girl dropped the last bomb. Did she have to single out Kai like that?
She wasn't sure about her feelings towards the girl. She could not fault her for appreciating beauty as she did. Nor could she like her just yet. If there was something she loathed about the girl, it was her beauty. She felt insecure standing beside her. "I shall leave you to your duties. I have something to do. See you around sweetheart." Sienna left after pecking Kai's cheek.
"See you around, Ian boy."
With that said, she strode away like a peacock, head held high in the air. Fortunately, her shoes made no sound as though she was floating on air. Kai didn't bother to look back at her. His gaze was still locked onto the girl on the bed. Why was he feeling like this? The booming was furious and incessant. It was his heart, which seemed to swell into a mallet and swing against his rib cage, a drum full of dirt that might burst at any moment.
He frowned, his gaze plastered onto the beauty's face. He hated feeling vulnerable. "Take care of her. Take care of her until she is as good as new. We shall talk again once she is fully recovered. For now, she is under your care and protection. Remember, she should not be exposed to the elites."
Kai sauntered away from the bed, out of the room. Unlike the front he was putting on, his heart was anything but calm. He wasn't ready to explore his heart's condition. Hence he chose to keep his distance for as long as he could. Ian chuckled at his departure. "Little one, Looks like we shall get along just fine. Anyone who can make the big bad wolf antsy is my best friend. Get well soon. We shall have lots of fun together."
He sat beside the bed waiting for her to wake up again. Meanwhile, in the human realm, two people were arguing. At first glance, they could be recognized as the two agents who had a misunderstanding after their mission. Colt was angry beyond words. He hated how Ava was behaving.
"What's wrong with you? You weren't like this before. What got into you all of a sudden?" He yelled. His chest heaved up and down in exasperation. He didn't like how Ava was trying to replace agent 1. She was irreplaceable in his heart.
Ava glared at him, desperation in her eyes. "No! You don't get to yell at me. What's wrong with YOU? Don't you see? She doesn't love you. All she cares for is revenge and nothing else. Why don't you open your eyes wide and look around you? Am I invisible to you?" She was done with it all.
While she loved him to death, she hated him as much. Colt knew about her feelings for him, yet he kept pushing her away. She just wanted his love. Was that too much to ask from him? It wasn't like he grew up with her alone. They grew up together. It didn't go unnoticed with her, how much she was kept out of the loop.
Whenever the other girl was around, Colt's world would revolve around her. He had a bad habit of forgetting other people's existence. What was more frustrating for her was the fact that the said girl treated him like a brother. She harbored no intimate feelings for him. Even so, he insisted on being a loyal dog to her. She was tired of waiting for him to notice her.
At present, her competition was away. It was her time to shine and no one would make her think otherwise. Not even the man she loved with every fiber of her being. Colt looked at her appalled. It wasn't the first time for Ava to argue with him because of his feelings for agent one. Yet, this time, things felt different.
He couldn't place a finger on it. However, he was sure that this argument won't end the way it normally did. "What are you talking about? I never said anything about anyone being invisible. I just don't like how you imitate everything that Agent 1 does. It isn't because I love her. It's because, in the process, you keep losing your originality. You can never be her. And she can never be you. Don't you see why am mad at you? You are my friend and family. We grew up together, ate, and slept under the same roof. I don't like what you are doing to yourself!"
Ava was livid. She didn't realize that Colt wanted to protect her. Her brain translated his direct words in a twisted way. That he didn't like her taking Agent 1's place. He wanted her to remain inferior to her. He didn't want to love her and wanted her to remain a friend and family the way he put it. It wasn't enough. She wanted more. Why couldn't he give her that?
She growled towards him with a predatory look in her gaze. "Listen up Colt, I love you. I have loved you all our lives, while your agent 1 never cared. You don't tell me what to do. I am going to use this chance to take everything that she has. There is nothing you can do to stop me. As for what I do in the meantime, it's none of your business. All you care about is her. You don't even care about me. Just let me be. All you have to do is love me. If you can't give me your heart, then don't lecture me."
Veins started popping out of his forehead. "But I care!" He yelled. "I care about you. Don't you see what you are becoming? You don't need to act like her to be beautiful. You don't need to act like anyone. You are beautiful. Your personality is who you are. Embrace it because it's unique to you. There are things that you have that she will never have. The vice versa is true. This is not about her. It's about you."
He was so angry that he started frothing at the mouth. He felt responsible for all of this.
"Listen, Ava, If I could choose who to love, I would give you my heart without a thought. Alas! I never had a choice. It just happened. My heart fell on its own accord. I tried to stop it but I couldn't. Despite knowing that she never reciprocated my feelings, my heart chose her. I accepted it and learned to live with it. I want to fall in love with you but it has nothing to do with what I want or what is logical. The heart has a mind of its own."
Ava chuckled bitterly. It was just an excuse. He doesn't care about her. He just cares about that woman. She loathed her very existence. It didn't matter in what field. She always bested her. As an agent, she was superior to her. Physically, she had better features. Despite her cold personality, the rest of the agents loved and respected her more.
She was always second compared to her. No more. She was done being second. No matter what, she was going to take everything back. Starting from the number one position of being an agent. Maybe then, Colt will look at her differently. He might dislike her way of winning his affection but she would persist until he realize her worth.
She will give him the time he needs to get used to things. He will come around eventually. With that thought in mind, she threw caution to the wind and pulled him by the neck, stealing a kiss without his consent. She pulled away as fast as she kissed him, striding away from him. Colt was left in shock. Things were getting out of hand around the organization. He missed his best friend already.
Upstairs, on the topmost floor, a middle-aged man watched the arguments on his phone. His neatly trimmed beard gave his thin lips a sexy look. A smirk made its way onto his lips. He couldn't help but laugh at how the girl kissed the boy leaving him gawking in shock. "You got some guts girly. Maybe I should make proper use of your talents. With you, I don't have to hold back as much."
He spoke to the zoomed picture of Ava walking out on Colt. Initially, the room was shrouded in darkness except for the light that came from the table lamp. The light was suddenly turned on bathing the room in a soft yellow glow. His gaze lazily looked towards the door and fell on the woman who walked in. She was wearing a gown that hid very little of her almost naked frame.
"Hey, babe. What are you up to now? Listening to you talk to yourself, who would have thought that you are the leader in charge of the human race? You don't look the part." Immediately after the words fell out of her mouth, the temperature in the room dropped drastically making her regret those words.
She didn't know how it happened. One minute, he was sitting around looking lazy and all. The next minute, he was strangulating her with a dark glint in his eyes. She was quickly running out of air from the strong grip he had on her delicate neck. Her eyes watered as her hands instinctively tried to pry his from her neck. She was losing air very fast.
"Sweetheart, do yourself a favor and stay in your lane. Don't involve yourself in my business. It doesn't suit your delicate body. Are we clear?" His voice was apathetic as though he wasn't strangulating her. She was on the verge of passing out when his grip loosened. "Now, be a good girl and do your job well. Get out, before I kill you."
The woman fell to the floor fear and surprise in her eyes. This was the first time he had treated her like this. He was mean but never to this extent. Did something happen that made him angry? She didn't want to stick around to find out. A few minutes after catching her breath, she wobbled out of the office on shaky legs.
Her throat felt sore but it wasn't the part of her that was hurt the most. Her heart ached in her chest. She had been nothing but loyal to the man. Years of her youth were wasted on pleasuring him and satisfying his needs. All because she was in love with him. Even in death, that woman still held the highest position in his heart. Her fists clenched as she walked into her bedroom.
The man looked unbothered as he walked back to his desk. His gaze admired the heavy technological types of equipment in the room. His office wasn't as it appeared. With only a button, it changed from an average-looking office into a special operation room with lots of monitoring screens around.
Each screen was displaying the various activities happening in different states of the world. It was a monitoring room. His eyes admired everything as he nodded in approval before his gaze fell on a picture hanging on the whole. It was in a conspicuous place.
He walked towards the picture and caressed one of the people in it.
It was a woman's face. She had the most beautiful features that he had ever seen on any human. She was supposed to be his. His fingers traced her name that was written in calligraphy below her picture before his gaze shifted to the man beside her. The man's features were identical to his. The major difference being that in the picture, his gaze looked softer, his face had a genuine smile and his eyes shone with love. He read the name below the picture. "LUCAS GREEN".
