Chapter 17 - Set up

News traveled fast. Everyone was afraid to let the boss know about their losses. He was known for his anger issues.

Fortunately for the agents, it was only the team that went for the mission that should report. The rest kept their distance away from the man.

Lucas had been busy setting up a plan to get rid of all the wolves. His main trump card was agent 1. As he looked at the map on the monitor, his eyes were filled with greed.

" Soon, the world would be mine to rule." He was extremely engrossed in his work that he paid no attention to the agents who went on a mission.

Time went by so quickly that by the time he walked out, it was already evening. It was only then that a realization struck him.

His agents haven't made a report to him yet! On his way towards their quarters, he found one of the instructors. Upon inquiry, he was briefed about his team.

Lucas stopped in his steps. His initially stoic expression disappeared instantly. A storm began to simmer in his body as anger took over his senses.

Before the instructor could react, he became the punching bag for the boss to vent his anger on. Lucas only left the man when he was barely breathing.

His knuckles were sour and bloody. The corridor that was once sparkling clean was now filled with the stench of blood. It was only after he saw the blood that the man got back to his senses.

Despite that, anger still lingered in his blood. He hated being betrayed. From the way he saw things, this incidence was a clear case of betrayal.

Who the culprit is was quite clear. However, he strongly refused to accept it. The man took huge strides towards the hospital which was located on the forty-second floor.

The first person he met was Ava. She has regained consciousness after a few hours of proper rest. Regrettably, both her legs were broken and her body was full of open wounds.

She has lost too much blood such that she needed a transfusion. Her gaze was lazily wandering around the room when she felt his presence.

She felt goosebumps all over her body. His aura was something no one could imitate. She didn't need to see him to know that it was him. None of them did.

She turned her gaze towards him, albeit reluctantly. Lucas sat on the chair by the bed and glowered at the girl on the bed.

His fingers twitched for the urge to punch something was taking over him again. " Speak!" His voice was low yet the coldness from it made her shiver even more.

" A few days ago, we got two coordinates from Agent 1. One was marked as safe and the other as polluted.

When the team made it to the safe zone, it wasn't safe at all. Those pests were laying low ready to ambush. We were caught unprepared. We lost some of our men and managed to get rid of almost all of theirs.

Everything was going well until the Beta appeared.."

" The Beta.?" Lucas enquired. He only knew of one particular Beta who was capable of harming his agents. The girl nodded as she repaid the rest of the information to the boss.

" So, are you telling me that agent 1 purposely led you into a trap?" Ava nodded looking sad and pitiful. Lucas clenched his fist even harder drawing blood from his palm.

" Are you sure about your Intel?"

" Positive sir. It was agent 1's unique code."

The man stood up without another word and left the room. If what had happened was instigated by agent 1 he won't let her off.

Somewhere else back at the border, Anaya was busy treating the man she had rescued. She had no idea why she felt compelled to interfere with it.

It was unlike her. She never interfered in other people's fights. Not unless it threatens her interests. Now, here she was, busy removing the bullet lodged in the man's chest.

He was a luckily fellow for sure. The bullet that was aimed at his heart would have killed him if his body had a normal structure. Anaya found it intriguing that his heart was located on the right side of his chest.

The knife wound was also deep. She had begun her operation by putting pressure on the knife wound and proceeded with removing the bullet.

It took her a few hours of operation to seal all his wounds. By the time she was done, her entire body was drenched in sweat. Since she never thought of having a medical room around, she had used her room.

Now that the man was safe, she stood up ready to take a long dip. The water from the spring was steamy and warm. Just the right temperature to relax her tired bones.

Anaya took one look at Ian and deduced that he won't wake up any time soon. With this thought in mind, she was able to strip naked and walk towards the stream that was in the same room.

Her long shiny black hair flowed smoothly over her back as she rested her head on the stone. She stayed in the water for a while enjoying her bath.

Unknown to her, Ian had already opened his eyes. Since the bullet was already removed and the knife wound wrapped up, his healing ability was back to normal.

The wolfbane was out of his system. In a case where the bullet was left for a longer period in his body, he was bound to die as his healing ability would be prevented.

He didn't make any noise. He closed his eyes and thought for a while before opening them again. His sky-blue horns were not as bright as they used to be.

Even so, he was grateful to be alive again. His gaze finally moved towards where some sound was coming from. It was the sound made by a flowing stream.

Once his gaze fell on the naked figure bathing, he couldn't look away. His heart accelerated in his chest. His wolf began to stir.

Was it possible? His wolf couldn't be wrong! She was his mate. His mate had saved him. Anaya felt a scorching stare on her back and turned around to look in the direction.

Her gaze met his and she momentarily gasped. His eyes were so beautiful. The last time they had met in town, she had deliberately avoided looking at him more than required.

Now that she was gazing into his orbs, the man she initially found handsome grew thousand times more handsome. She momentarily forgot her state of undress.

It was Ian who had to look away out of embarrassment. She was the same girl he had met in town a few months ago. Anaya snapped out of it as well as she walked out of the spring.

She took the towel lying on the rock and tier it around her body. Her wet hair was left unattended as she strode towards the man.

" I didn't expect to see you awake this early. I am impressed by your mind's healing ability. It's fascinating. "

At first, he didn't understand what her words meant. Thinking about it in-depth, he finally understood. She wasn't a wolf? Did that mean that a human saved his life?

He turned around so fast that his head nearly snapped. His gaze pierced through her making her stop in her steps. " Why are you looking at me like that? It's not like I killed someone!"

" Shut up! All of you are the same? Why did you save me? Did you do it just to humiliate me? Is this a game to you?" He roared at her in anger.

Who could blame him? Not very long ago, he was taunted by a human, insulted, and called names before he was stabbed by the said human.

Why then should he trust this one? For all he knew, she might have saved him just to torture him all over again. His heart protested at his harsh words for her but his mind wasn't having it.

He began to question nature. Why would the moon goddess give him a human mate? Anaya understood his reasons but she didn't like being insulted.

From a young age, she had been subjected to emotional blackmail by her mother. She could never accept anyone else insulting her.

" Hey jerk, not all of us are animals just like not all of you are monsters. I did save your life. The least you can do is say thank you. Stop being such an ungrateful jerk."

Her retort did nothing but fuel his anger more. He wanted to stand up and walk away but he was held back. Her strength was enough to keep him in place.

" Listen up Mr. I don't have patience for your childish behavior. I waster hours trying to remove the bullet lodged in your body. So until you are absolutely fine, you won't step foot out of this place."

His heart skipped a beat at her words. It inflated his ego a bit knowing that she cared. Until she deflated it back again.

" Oh no. Don't get me wrong. It's not because I care about you as a person. But right now, you are the patient, and am your doctor. Do not waste your time and energy. You better stay in that bed if you want to live."

Her threat came out cold and aloof. He did not doubt that she meant each word. Thinking about it, Ian truly had no other option but to stay behind.

He didn't know if those slayers were still at that place.

Due to his injury, his strength was not at its strongest. If he was to encounter any slayer, it would be easy to kill him. He wanted to live long enough to avenge his brethren.

Additionally, he had not yet completed Kai's assignment. This made him clench his fists as he went back to bed. He send Anaya a glare and closed his eyes ready to sleep.

Before he drifted off, he heard the melodious sound of her chuckle filling the cave. Anaya laughed for the first time in ages. He was hilarious.

A big man such as himself acting like a baby was something she didn't encounter every day. It would be considered a novel experience. Shaking her head, she changed into clean clothes and walked into the kitchen.

She heated the food and began to eat. Not thinking much about it, she left some on the table for him to find when he wakes up. Even if he wanted to leave, he wouldn't find a way out of the maze she had created.

She went into her spare room and immediately fell asleep. Not long after, Ian woke up again. He sat up and looked around trying to identify his location.

From the look of it, they were in a cave that has been turned into a living place.

He felt sticky and warm all over. The sweat from before and the blood was still stuck to his body.

He didn't know If he was allowed to take a bath but he was in urgent need of one. He walked towards the water and sat at the edge. His pants came off soon as he sat in the soothing spring water.

He closed his eyes feeling the soreness leave his body. No wonder she had been so oblivious to her environment. He wanted to stay in there for as long as he could.

The feeling was so comfortable that he drifted off to sleep in the water. Anaya woke up a few hours before dawn for her routine training. She didn't bother looking for him until she needed a shower again.

When she walked into the room, she stopped in her track. She shook her head at the sight of the sleeping man. She couldn't blame him. The water was soothing to the bones.

Unfortunately for him, she needed a bath and wanted him out of the water. She walked towards him and poked him in the shoulder.

Ian was a light sleeper. He opened his eyes the minute she touched him. His sleepy gaze was sexy, to say the least.

" Get out of my space. I need a bath."

She didn't bother being nice to him. She just needed a bath. He frowned not willing to leave the spring. "It's big enough for two. Why don't you just get inside? It's too comfortable, I don't want to leave."

She gazed at him with a raised brow before she began to strip. She didn't care. She warned him already. If he didn't mind, she won't either.
