Chapter 1 - the absurd one

"i almost lost my breath, you know!"

"the wind is very strong today." chris responded while glancing at the photograph he was holding. his eyes found a treasure to look at. and with a slight smile of joy cropping up his lips, he remembered something with just that one look at it.

"And the test, did you get the results?" peter suddenly cut him off his thoughts.

now that he asked he knew and it was already written on chris' face what exactly the results were. if it were different from what he told him before. this man right now would definitely be smiling with joy no, he was assured he would have been one step ahead to find the clues about his wife's elsewhere. but the scene his face displayed gave one answer only, that the results he got were a wayward response to his expectations. but again with that, not seemingly quite okay, peter's facials twinkly unveil a baffled demeanor.

"if I wasn't a business man, what career would you recommend me to be?" chris suddenly queried.

"what.!" peter zoomed. all in a sudden? why all of a sudden he came up with this. no, he didn't even see this coming at all. he was buffled with what he just asked.

"what do you think I would be.?"

chris stoned it out again. his gesture demanded an answer, not expecting another question from him.

peter's stummer wasn't fear, pretty not sure of what to say.

" a-ahh.,a..a sol.soldier maybe.!"

" a soldier.?" he paraphrased to his retort.

"M-mh." slightly nodding his head, peter continued by saying, " it would suit you. since your strong, got good fighting skills, and what's that again.! solidarity.! do you even have that....hahaha!!." he jokingly pointed his finger at him, and mockingly laughed at what he just spitted.

"but why do you ask.!hold on." he finched his eyes slightly. "you want to quit your company's business." disbelievingly he queried.

"Do I also have such choice.?" his response was an answer in a question form, for such a way, he knew it wasn't worthy answering that. meddling the fact, he was the only heir of the wang's family at the front line as current that time. his younger sister was still taking up to her studies. so, asking if he had a choice of changing up careers is like a mock to him. it didn't seem so right because, if he had a wish then he wished he woke up and find this all was just a delusion, where he wakes up and finds his life just normal and perfect enough for a happy family where he would be a perfect husband, a perfect father, a perfect son and a perfect brother but the real world a diversely of it all.

and instead of that, he stands his responsibility more willingly than eschewing from his family's expectation. atleast he can play his role pitiful but well.

" then, what did you ask that for.?" came a curious questions from Peter.

chris' question was something really out of the topic, being curious and wanting to know more was definitely something peter could demand. chris looked at him, he didn't know where exactly to begin from, either choosing to be a servant or marriage proposal was absolutely a denial from her.

while keeping him waiting wasn't an answer, he knew he had to begin it from an elsewhere.

"If I was to be a servant, what would you definitely take me for.!" chris imploded. of course this was what peter was expecting, that is what it actually was. this man never gives direct answers. he would rather round about the bushes before one completely analyzing what he actually means. his over all by goods never bet his access in expression abilities. not that he lacked expression abilities. ratherily not a type to say things so direct in such.

"you mean servant like servant. I don't get it here." he sniffed and looked puzzled at what chris said at first before he pleaded that answer to him. ditching the fact that he didn't expect him asking that, he was totally lost of why in a sudden he was asking weird questions, like who he would be if he wasn't a businessman, then how he looked like for a servant. this all was just too out of a shit to be digested at once. what's funny wasn't looking like to be funny at all, because he never seemed to be joking at the moment. his emotionless gestures, were spitting a different aura of sense.

and just to be little he would know, this man right now was just seeking an advice in a way one directly couldn't understand for what seemed an awkward situation happening to him.

perhaps it might be the drinks, but thinking that he was drunk had a zero point zero percent possibility since the liquor wasn't that strong. and knowing chris, his manner would link off the table, before he turned sober again. in fact this man had a remarkable ability of tolerance in standing up to liquors.

"well, talking about servants, thus pretty hard to place. specifically which type kind of it do you actually mean? the civil ones.!! because it's absurd to think of domestic workers, i mean the honorable respected house workers or anything like butlers."

peter explained in a way, a lot better for chris to precisely frame his scope to his question. chris knew, how he interpolate everything abruptly to him would just be so confusing. and yet, he failed to realize why was it so hard for him to explain everything very direct to him instead of stuttering within his speech, running out of words like though he was a lawyer at a lose eagerly wanting to win on defending his client.

"the-the ab-..the absurd one.!" he declared his speech at a very low volume and stuttering manner out of awkwardness.

"yes, the absurd one. so what would you take me for." he worded his speech again oughtful and audible to only let the speechless peter to wander his ears or was he just hearing things.

thinking about it, this should be funny but why isn't anyone laughing. he gazed around his sides, as if looking at ones round him. notwithstanding the fact they were only two of them inside. he then eyed the bottle on the table and slight shook his head. "no, thus not it." he muttered quietly for only himself to hear. then glanced at chris again disbelievingly. he drove out his long heavy breath and uttered.

" should I be laughing or what, course you being a butler or something is a next level kind of a joke chris !" he said and pinned his eyes onto his. a while ago it was crazy talking about himself and the messed up life he had and just now his brother speaks of things he should point them out for a joke but the air in between didn't seem anywhere for such moments.

chris loudly cleared his throat and stretch his hands inside the pocket trouser he wore and picked his feet off from where he was and sauntered pass near him and said,

" forget what I said, it's nothing serious."

"no, you seemed more than serious. the fact that you just brought this up, is utterly not just senseless. what's going on exactly!" he said, looking very concerned and purposely expecting a one way explanation of what that all was about. now that it turned out this way, he knew he lacked one piece to complete the puzzle playing within his head.

chris glared at him wanting to say anything but his mouth let out a small sigh and drawn a short smile at the edge of his lips, and kept up with his walk, had he stop before when he was talking to him. it wasn't even a big deal to talk of but thinking about telling him being a servant for a lady was just too ludicrous to convey that to him. well, maybe it's because he also hated that thought of it. but if it were marrying her or serving her then he rather be the menial than the husband to someone he never loved.

"the marriage didn't work. did it.?" peter yelled in a quite low mannered way as chris was taking his stair steps up ahead to his room. A no reply left a clue to him since no answer was also an answer then that answered his question. he smiled, and twisted his head and licked his tongue out loudly. and shouted again.

" she wants you for a servant?"

he voiced not harshly, relatively very impulsive. what a facetious feeling that simmered within him that he roared his voice out for a cackle. envisioning chris being someone's hireling, strikingly one for a lady in a way that himself is grudging makes it even more hilarious than his notions.

his enormous perpetual laugh didn't seem to break off anytime soon. that being the case, chris didn't mention it to him before just in order to evade such a predicament.

"Don't think of coming up here." chris said, before enclosing himself inside his room. but that didn't seem to cut off peter's over slow turning laugh. for quite some time it kept on till then later whenn he chuckled and let out a sigh before uttering.

" am glad you didn't find out that she is still alive. it's great when you start a fresh brother."

so lowly he said for only himself to hear.
