Chapter 1 - A Close Call

The blades sung above me like a wind chime, its murderous melody ever so subtle.

"For your sin against the country and our town, shedding blood to quench your lust and not for the greater good. You will die." The chief said knowing full well it was a lie.

He caressed his full beard as he spoke, the chest nut brown complimenting his black business suit. He soon paused rubbing his pumpkin nose and squinting his brown eyes.

The dust had gotten to him, we were in a desert after all.

"For one hundred counts of murder and being a shifter, I'm afraid it's my duty to execute you." He exclaimed, watching me from his peripheral vision, a smirk on his face.

"What I did was right... It was them or us... now its you and me, you don't have to do this... the only thing your afraid of is..." My words were cut short by a sword jammed in my side.

"Shut it!" One of the two guards by the open top cage shouted. "Accept your punishment like a good little little mutt." A smile following his words.

I held on to the blade he kept inching deeper into my side and forced it out, seeing his strength was no match for mine, he pulled it away.

"Let it be done!" He shouted, lifting his hands into the air.

The one hundred blades were now in a free fall, there melody now a chorus. It was one way to kill a shifter, and the most painful as well. Plunging multiple blades into a shifter stopped their inhuman healing causing all the damage to stay until ultimately they died.

Even I, someone who had lived through countless wars and battles couldn't see a way out of this one. I would rather fight a dragon than to die by a hundred blades. Even if I was to transform, I couldn't tank so many enchanted blades at once. Especially not the ones made for me to bleed.

I had no choice, it was now or never.

"Save me!" I shouted, though I knew who I was calling out for, I longed for the crowd in front of me to save me, but I knew they wouldn't. I had saved their entire town and instead of thanking me they decided to execute me.

A few hours earlier I had stumbled upon the town on my quest for the lost city and had decided to stay the night. As I settled down in the inn getting some shut eye, I heard screaming and flames.

I peered through the window slowly. What I saw wasn't new, but it disgusted me any way.

Men clad in silver armor covering there entire body riding on winged horses. They were from the army. They were supposed to protect, but in the middle of nowhere where there was no consequences they did as they liked. They were worse than bandits, at least they stole because they had to. One look at the men before me and I could tell they were short of nothing.

Reaching behind my cloak I pulled out my cursed magnum. The magnum that idiot didn't even decide to give a proper name. I crept across the squeaking wooden floor of the second before I leapt through the window and started firing. They had split up and six of them had held a woman discarding their guns and spears in the process.

It was six bullets and six kills as I fell through the air my red eyes glowing beneath the moonlight. Not even armor from the empire could stop a bullet from death herself.

I picked the woman up, though shocked she was able to make it safely inside a house.

I ran through the streets trying to spot them and when I did, bang. They were stood by buildings chatting but had seen me, I was too fast for them, before they could react they were already dead, ten. My trek had lead me to the town hall, a large stone building that showed age due to its cracked and chipped stones, its wooden roof in disrepair.

As I went closer I could hear whistling in the wind, spears, quickly planting my feet in the sand and pouncing backwards I was able to avoid them.

"Midnight I finally found you." He said clapping slowly to make his point. "You may dodge spears but not bullets." They were on the second floors and rooves, soon after they blocked both ways of the street.

"Kill him!" He shouted, and in union they started to fire.

I put my strength in my legs and jumped as high as I could, just reaching upon the rooves. I wasted no time though as I started blasting away. The roof I had landed on had ten soldiers this was the same for another few buildings, the occasional soldier was inside and some on the street.

They had hoped the high ground would save them, but they must have forgotten who I was. Firing ten shots in quick succession I literally blew all their heads off, twenty.

"The famous pistol without a cylinder huh, yet it still shoots... Gimme!" He shouted before breaking out into a hysterical laughter, machine gun in hand.

"Ha ha ha ha." He looked like he was spraying and praying but soon I realized the bullets had changed paths. I jumped but they hit off the shingled rooves and came after me.

The longer this went on the more problems I would have. Soon his men joined him, and a barrage of bullets were coming my way. I hoped from roof to roof but the enchanted bullets kept following me. I soon dipped into an alleyway causing the bullets to take a sharp ninety hitting the firm wooden beams of the infrastructure stopping them in there paths.

Again I was surrounded. The manioc was soon above me blitzing bullets downwards, his men assaulting form the side. I was going to get hit. I choose the footmen with basic rifles over the enchanted machine gunner.

The bullets from above hit the ground giving them no chance to redirect. The bullets I had ran into though, stung. The three men blocking me were easy pickings as they were over confident and didn't even dodge, twenty-three.

"Maybe they didn't read the file. Were up against a werewolf boys... beware." He then continued his assault.

I had been hit in the chest once, the stomach once and the calf once. Soon the bullets fell to the ground as I ran from the enchanted bullets, the pain stopping soon after.

They were continuously changing positions making it hard to pick them off, especially with the bullets on my tale. They shone in the moonlight as the chased me.

"Sir, he's too fast what do we do?!" A man screamed his voice cracking.

"Plan B!" The man that seemed to be the leader said.

Soon the screams of a little girl could be heard.

"Come out, come out where ever you are before the mini doll gets it." He said hoping off the roof.

Realizing they had stopped shooting I stopped in my tracks a little tired.

He turned the corner the nozzle of his gun against her cheek. "Now your gonna stay real still or else." He started to slowly pull the trigger.

"Fine."

"Good. Delta!" He shouted. All the men surrounded me once again this time in a closer formation, on the rooves, on the ground, in buildings, they were everywhere.

"Give him hell!" He shouted before going back to his crazy laugh, pointing his gun at me.

I quickly wrapped myself in my cape before they started to fire. The assault went on for about two minutes, it had even kicked up a dust cloud around me.

"Stop!" With one command all the bullets stopped.

A growling sound could be heard from the dust, as I tossed my clothes and weapon to the side. They were trying to stall and kill me as soon as possible, they had failed. Once the transformation started, it wouldn't stop and the first thing that would change would be my skin. Their guns were now useless.

"Run! Sigma! Sigma!" He shoved the little girl from his hands and started to flee, his men were trying to do the same, but I wouldn't allow it.

My mouth elongated as fur poured out of my skin, my finger nails pushed out becoming claws, my teeth elongated becoming fangs, my body started to grow as muscles spawned out of thin air. When the dust cleared I could be seen, even on all fours I was six feet, my red glowing eyes pierced through the night while my jet black fur blended in with it.

"Run! It's midnight" A soldier reiterated, the fear in his voice straining his words.

It was useless, they weren't fast enough. I plowed through them using my claws to mutilate them ripping them limb from limb. I stomped on some with my muscular arms shattering all their bones in the process. I grabbed some by the head crushing it, their brains ran down my fingers, warm. One brave soul soon stood up firing at me, but It was no good. I lunged forward clearing ten feet in one second biting his head off, his blood ran from between my teeth and fell on the floor. I ran into buildings throwing them through and upon walls splattering and breaking them in the process.

Soon my count had reached ninety-nine, I was missing one.

He was hold up in a building in a corner somewhere, hoping I would leave. Little did he know I could hear him.

Creaks were heard above him, he quickly looked up and saw two red dots. As a last ditch effort he pointed and stared shooting, it was pointless. I dropped on top of him breaking his arms and legs. I would take my time. I ripped him limb from limb slowly dislocating and pulling each bone before ripping off a limb. His screams could be heard through out the entire town as he begged to be killed, it was another five minutes until one hundred.

I went back for my clothes and as I went to pick them up a woman approched me. Thinking she was going to thank me I let her get close, this was my downfall. The others soon came and soon I was being held at gun point. This is how I had ended up in the situation in the first place.

As I shouted the words save me the symbol on my right hand lit up a crimson red, the blades drew close and as they were about to strike a boney hand the size of my body passed through it form below the ground going towards the blades. A black tattered material covered its arm. I was saved.
