Chereads / ASOIAF: The white Dragon / Chapter 15 - Departure

Chapter 15 - Departure

The day of departure had arrived and Griffith who had as always woken up hours before the rest had already packed his chest.

He now sat on top of Winterfell's south wall watching the people run back and forth with their belongings in their arms.

Taking a bite of the apple he had grabbed from the kitchens, Griffith saw as Rob stopped one of the men and said something to him pointing towards one of the carriages.

Feeling someone walk up behind him he looked up into the bright green eyes of the kingslayer, Jaime Lannister.

Griffith's eyes widened slightly, "My Lord, what brings you here."

The Kingsguard grinned cockely, "I heard you were the greatest swordsman in Winterfell, you must be quite excellent then."

The bastard chuckled embarrassed, "I'm not that great, people do exaggerate sometimes."

Letting out a bark of laughter, Jamie smacked Griffith back, "You're too humble, you have to be proud of your achievements."

A sigh escaped the young dragon and he glanced over at Robb, "Well it's no use anyway since I'm a bastard."

Looking in the direction Griffith was gazing, Jamie saw the Stark and smiled, "You can always become a Kingsguard if you're good enough."

Just then a loud voice echoed over to them, "Jaime, come here."

Looking over they saw the queen standing at the entrance to the guest house.

The Kingslayer sighed, "Duty calls, I'll see you later."

A small smile formed on Griffith's face and he waved, "It was an honour speaking to you Sir Jaime."

Since it was almost time to leave he stood up and followed Jaime down the stairs but instead of going to the guest house, he headed towards the main keep.

Stepping inside he felt a lot warmer thanks to the torches ensconced inside the walls.

It took him a few minutes but he soon reached the door to Bran's room which he swung open slowly.

He sighed seeing the state Lady Catelyn was in, "My Lady, may I come in?"

She didn't even look at him, her voice as frigid as always, "No!"

Griffith's expression saddened, he had always wished that his relationship with Catelyn Stark would improve over the years which it had done slight, but ever since Bran's accident she seemed almost murderous.

He smiled and entered anyway, careful not to make too much noise.

"Did you not hear me?"

Griffith ignored her and bending down before Bran kissed his brother's brow, "I hope you get well soon and can come join us in the south."

He then stood up and strode out of the room only turning around when he crossed the threshold, "Lady Catelyn, I wish you and your son well."

The next person he had to say goodbye to was little Rickon, who guessed would be in his chambers with old Nan.

As he headed down the long winding corridors of Winterfell he passed several servants carrying crates filled with the belongings of the Stark family members.

He had just passed one carrying a crate filled with books when he reached Rickon's room.

He knocked lightly and wanted an answer which came swiftly, "Come in."

Pushing the door open the first thing he saw was Rickon sitting on a big cushion watching Old Nan intensely.

But as he heard someone enter Rickon spun around and seeing who it was ran at Griffith.

The older boy grinned and crouching down grabbed Rickon under the armpits allowing him to lift the little one up.

"Why're you here Griff?" Rickon asked cheerfully.

The black haired boy smiled, "Well you see I'm going south with father so since we won't be seeing each other for a while.

I've come to say goodbye."

Rickon's eyes began to water and hugged Griffith tightly, "When will I see you again?"

Chuckling Griffith started stroking Rickon's hair, "I don't know but the faster you grow up the sooner it will be."

Releasing his older brother Rickon looked up at Griffith with a massive smile on his face, "Then I'll grow up super quickly."

The young dragon sighed and released Rickon looking up at Old Nan, "Take care of him will you."

She smiled and nodded slowly, "As I always have."

Griffith then turned exiting the room, leaving an excited Rickon behind.

When he entered the courtyard it was even more crowded with people than before, since all the guests who were previously still inside their lodgings were now ready to ride out.

Striding over to Robb stood Griffith tapped him on the shoulder, and as soon as his brother turned around he gave him a bear hug.

"Don't burn down WInterfell while we're gone!"

Robb grinned, "and you better not seduce all the women in court while you're there."

They both began to laugh, their different pitches clashing against each other.

Tightening his embrace Griffith smiled sadly, "I'll miss you."

Robb chuckled, "I'll miss you too."

They then disengaged and waving Robb goodbye he went off to search for Jon.

He soon found him, frantically searching for someone, Griffith chuckled and walked up to Jon.

"Who're you looking for?"

His brother spun around, his brown eyes boring into Griffith's blue ones.

"There you are, I've been looking for you for a while now."

Griffith chuckled, "I was saying goodbye to the others."

Jon's smile turned sombre, "I understand," he then ruffled his brother's dyed hair, a grin back on his face, "You'll have to visit me on the Wall sometime."

"Yes, of course." Griffith then grabbed hold of Jon's furs and pulled him into a hug, "I hope that day comes soon."

Jon smiled, "It better." he then pushed Griffith away, "Well I have to go now or Uncle Benjen will get angry."

Griffith nodded, "Have a safe journey."

Turning around Jon started running towards the stables, "You too.
