What Vance had just said was terribly worrisome. He was literally saying that if Melva died, he would also kill himself. The alarms in her head were ringing loudly. This was not a healthy codependency. He no longer wanted to live if she no longer existed in his life.
Melva's hand that was holding Vance trembled ever so slightly, but Vance caught that with his amazing senses. He quickly turned to check up on her and her expression must be nowhere near good. She felt like she was about to throw up, after all.
"Excuse us for a second, I would like to have a private conversation with Melva," said Vance politely while squeezing Melva's hand in reassurance.
Vance pulled Melva to stand up with him and follow him outside the house, sitting down on the floor at the porch. He then let go of her hand to cup her cheeks, making her face him and look him directly in the eyes.
