As soon as they got to the shore, Vance and Davis quickly prepared the things they needed for the ceremony. Apparently, it was a kind of cremation. It was obvious when they took out the things from inside the sacks they had brought here.
They were building a simple raft out of the neatly cut pieces of wood that Davis had brought from the tavern. They were probably firewood, but Davis had carried them here for the funeral purposes. Then they put the ragged clothes inside the sacks, tying them neatly and placing them in the centre of the raft. A few small pieces of wood and some dried leaves were put around the sacks, circling them.
Both Vance and Davis gently pushed the raft into the ocean water and let the wave take it away. Vance grabbed the match and lit it up. As the raft was getting farther away from the shore, Vance threw the lit match with exact precision towards the sacks, burning them up. Each of them were bidding their last farewell next.
